Given the realities of travel costs, nothing would change unless they found two or three more teams and split off a new conference. They could be done ... and then things would work out.
Example: Big Sky = EWU, UM, MSU, ISU, WSU, UND, NoCol, [USD]
"New" Conference = PSU, CP, NAU, SacS, UC-D, SUU, [San Diego]
On a quick thought, couldn't come up with other teams besides South Dakota and San Diego. But the two setups would make a lot more sense geographically than what we have.

No rule. The issue is a conference championship would have to be played the weekend prior to Thanksgiving and the Playoffs beginning. What this means is there would be no bye weeks for any team within the Conference. I guess all teams could schedule 1 fewer games, but that would not benefit the teams not in the Championship.

Don't know about a "rule," but there are certainly problems with a divisional setup (scheduling mostly, I believe). But what I had in mind was a totally separate conference, with its own schedule and championship. But the teams would also be available to provide D-1 OOC games -- nearby -- for each other. Not sure about the auto-bids ... haven't really taken the time to look at alternatives.get'em_griz said:

Poly is the one right now that's likely toast. I know many Griz fans would rather see the Stangs in then the Griz, and think Poly deserves to be in above the Montana schools, and maybe that's true, but, it's not reality and not what is going to happen. If UM wins out and MSU beats Idaho State, both the Cats and Griz are in. Only way Poly slips in is: Idaho State wins out, and the Cats beat the Griz, and the committee takes Poly over the Cats, but I don't think that's likely either. Right now, my bet is, Cats beat Idaho State, Griz of course beat the Cats, and the Big Sky gets EWU (Seed), NAU, MSU and UM.

So you don't see the Big Sky getting four with two of those teams at 7-1 and two at 6-2 in conference play? Or are you insisting that Poly at 8-4 and 6-2 is in ahead of either the Griz or Cats?

I'm not saying it's fair that Poly is on the out looking in, but I'm been watching how the selection committee works for alot of years now, and I'm just telling you guys, as of right now Poly is not in the playoffs. For whatever reason, they are not getting the respect that MSU and UM is. If you really look close, you can see it unfolding as we speak. I just know that those two wins are not carrying the weight you guys think they are. It's just not black and white. It's not just about Poly beat UM, so UM is out and they are in with the same record. Fair or unfair, it's just not how the at-large selection process works.
Now, IF Montana were to lose to Southern Utah, and the Cats beat Idaho State, THEN, Poly might get a closer look.

I'd bet you on it, but I already bet a diehard Griz fan a $100 that the Griz get in at 8-4. So, I'm tapped out on bets for this season. I just don't see it happening. But, on Nov. 22 we'll know for sure.

You also must believe that ISU beating the Cats will have no bearing on whether or not UM gets into the playoffs...since an 8-4 Griz team will get in over an 8-4 Poly team no matter what?
