What defense will we run this season?

If you want your kid attacked or former players attacked, you have come to the right place!

This site is toxic, low IQ and scummy
This site has roughly 9000 members. Not all post. This is a representation of roughly 2 to 4 percent of Griz nation. Not sure what your goal is being on here and posting but your posting game plan needs adjusting. The current rendition makes you appear as a 🧌.

That's......a bunch of formations? You mean, a defensive scheme..?
You want to know if they are going to run quarters, 2 high, 3, run a safety blitz, stunt, bullet blitz with a fire coverage from the buck?

Do you believe that Sanders and the staff know what specific plays they are running in the first quarter of game 1? Because if that were the case the whole staff would need to just be fired right now.

Im going to go ahead and check out of this convo and go back to being a lurker on the board. Besides being a ridiculous ask, these threads shed a bad light on a great fanbase.
You said you knew what defenses were going to be run. So I asked you to be more specific. My point is that there are a lot of schemes, formations and defenses. I don’t think you or anyone, even the players, know what will be called. I can tell you know some about what you are talking about, but you sometimes overstate, in my view. Small point.

Need to get the visionary minds on record about what defense we will run this coming season. I cant wait to laugh at you boomers that are old and worthless.

Its gonna be funny to a lot of us in the know.
So speaking of visionary minds. Let's hear what you have to say. Not sure I've ever heard you give us your words of wisdom about the vast football knowledge of your days in junior high football and I'm sure everyone is really curious to hear.
But here is my guess as to what you'll see. I think Sanders generally ran a 4-2-5 front at EWU but like most teams depending on down and distance and the rotation he has on the roster you'll see plenty 4-3, 5-2 and 3-3. Since the griz are deep with edge players and hybrid safety types it'll be a steady dose of 4-2-5 with a nickel in the box and a lb playing edge on the weak side. Very similar fronts to what they've played the last few years since that is what the roster has. The difference is going to be a gap responsible scheme. Less slants and twists. Predicable gap fits, safeties will be playing high and fitting run allies instead of just pursuit. less thinking and easier to learn which will make the defense faster.

I don't know why I am doing this to myself besides sometimes an argument feels good.

You fundamentally do not understand what a defense is. I am trying to be kind, but your comments leave no other room for interpretation. Nobody, not a soul, said they know what is going to be called. You are literally talking about SPECIFIC DEFENSIVE PLAYS which is just a dumb thing to say. The DEFENSE is a base 4-2-5 formation. If you were playing a video game and you could pick Montana, when it was time to select a PLAY, the PLAY which includes everyone's responsibility for that rep would be within the 4-2-5 defensive scheme.

They could come out first play week 1 and run a 1-7-3 and that wouldn't change the fact the damn defense is a 4-2-5. Kids learn this as early as K-8 football, man. "Overstate" because you don't "understand".

Have a very blessed day.

Yes, I understand D. I was an all-conference player on D on a D1 college team that ended up ranked 14th in the nation, a bit ahead of Penn St. I follow D closely at my college and UM and have known the coaches, including the D coaches, at both schools for decades. I have talked in recent times to all of the UM D coaches, individually. My wife and I have about 18 current and former coaches in our families. Some still coach.

I don't want to know the schemes. I already have read about that and been told the schemes, including by some of the UM coaches. Some of you keep saying you know what the D is going to be. I keep asking for more info. I want to know what D's the coaches are going to concentrate on.

I am not talking about specific defensive plays. I want to know how the D will be called and played in various situations. I know from my current player friends, who are mostly D guys, that they don't know that. And I know that a parent of a kid who has been recruited or is/will play, doesn't know that either.

Like I said, you are "fundamentally" overstating what you know. You overstate because you don't understand. I know D and perhaps more about how to play D than you do. Did you play college football? On D? At what level? Were you or are you a coach? You sure as heck don't coach at UM.

I don't want to get into with anyone, let alone a player parent, but I wonder if you have the temperament to post on egriz. I know a few player-parents who do on occasion. Some with kids who play on the D. But they don't post much.

Maybe you play video games, but I don't. I go to games and practices. I support UM and my school. I talk to coaches. I listen to press conferences. I invite coaches to my lake place and have for decades. I know Bobby and Pflu quite well and still communicate with them. I know Delaney too. I don't yet know the Griz D coaches like I knew the prior ones. I had 2 kids recruited for college football, but I don't pretend to have become a football expert based on the recruiting process. I actually find that pretty funny. I had a kid recruited for college soccer, but I don't pretend to know everything about soccer and the World Cup.

Sir. You disqualify yourself when you say what defense are we running and then say "I want to know how the D will be called and played in various situations". That's not what we're running, that's not even something someone can answer including Sanders because there are a million things that go into those choices in real time during a game besides the weekly game plan itself. And at no point has a soul including myself said we know that, you just aren't comprehending it.

You at the very least sound like you played ages ago, and I don't mean that as disrespect but modern football seems to be lost on you. But name dropping people you are acquaintances with as a show of your own credentials is not something people do if they do have real credentials. Just like people with money don't need to say I have money. You are not them and their knowledge doesn't magically transfer to you. I know a handful of power 4 HCs, Coordinators, and position coaches, staffers, agents, etc but that doesn't make me special. I did play I was a RB though I could have and should have chosen Safety. I also train athletes, I have been a DB coach and Co-D coordinator, OC and HC, I break down practice and game film and opponent scout. Also unless I'm misremembering the conversation, the DC didn't play college football, he was a student coaching volunteer I believe. So if I am right then he is certainly less knowledgeable than you, yes?

Typical of today's world, people have questions and someone who has direct answers can tell them what defense is being ran or that UM is encouraging recruits to graduate and enroll early starting with the 28 class because of the 5 in 5 rule, or that UM themselves knows there are facilities deficiencies and they're already planning to solve that... But instead of being thankful to not have to wonder anymore we instead decide we know better because we donate money and/or have shaken some hands and that makes us special. Going to now go back to just being a parent, reading only, and keeping my simple info to me and watch everyone argue and flounder without a clue. Crazy stuff here.

Jack, you are in way over your head. There are multiple people on this site who actually understand the modern game and don't feel compelled to prop up their knowledge/opinions with who they know and that they played more than 50 years ago. You on the other hand always feel the need to overcompensate for your lack of actual knowledge. Your days of being the tallest man in a village of midgets has come to an end. You will never be able to use enough AI and claims of knowing people who actually know the game to cover up the fact that the game has passed you by...by decades.

You disqualify and make a joke of yourself by saying you learned a lot about the new Griz defense when your son was recruited. That is very lame. I don’t disqualify myself at all. What I have said is correct.

Your second sentence and the rest of the paragraph just validated what I have been saying all along. You are a bad reader. My god, I have said what you said in your second 3 or 4 times. Thats been my main point all along. I hope your son is a better reader than you.

You have coached high school? Did you graduate from college?

I have never said most of those things. You are just making up stuff. I think it’s funny you are obsessed with me. My knowledge of Griz football is pretty good because I get most of my info directly from coaches, players and former players. I don’t mention my playing days to show expertise; I mainly do it to show I actually played the game and most of you didn’t play the game, at least at any good level.

RP24:

Below are my first 2 posts in this thread, combined. Not edited. On the first page of the thread. The D players I know and have talked to are on the team, not recruits.

“I know more D people on the team now than you do, and they can’t say what will be run, other than generally. They don’t know. Nope. They know the schemes, which are varied, but they don’t know what will be called by the coaches during games.”

We are trying to get the US out of the ditch the Boomers ran us into. Take your foot off the gas and get out and help us push or move to the side and get out of the way.
Boomers haven’t gotten the US in the ditch. They helped make what the US is today. You ships be thankful. Greatest country in the world. What’s your generation? Have you done anything?
