Petition In Support Of Pat Williams

I believe if he said, "The UM has had issues with recruiting thugs in the past who have put the UM football program in a bad light with their arrests and thuggery. This issue is being addressed and I realize we're talking about a handful of kids over the years, however even a handful is too many." Then I can't really imagine anyone being up in arms about this.
Exactly right Brint! The statement was a little clumsy but not untruthful at all. I've always liked Pat Williams and he helped me out with a veterans administration issue way back in the 80's and I know him to be a good person. Sometimes the truth hurts folks but those of us that really do want the griz back on the right track know that some changes need to happen and that starts with public awareness and fan attitude.
I have already e-mailed my support to the folks that matter.

Pat Williams is as phony as they come, of course he helped you, you have always lived on the government dime.

Hey Thurstan, why would you say that? With the exception of my military service I have never lived on the government dime.

Perception is reality folks. The sooner we can address the issues the better. Pat ringing the bell in the manner in which he did will increase the likelihood of a course correction and at a faster rate. Trust me, Pat may have been the only BOR member to jump the shark but others on the BOR likely feel the same way and are simply acting with more discretion.

Pflu knows about speaking out, and he did so in a complimentary way, and gets canned for it. Someone mentioned Nuanez. There are plenty of other examples of the private sector where they voice an opinion and they are gone. Williams can come out and slam the entire program, branding them 'thugs' in a national venue, and he's still on the Board? What the hell? Where is Bullock on this statement. As Governor, he's supposed to be promoting Montana and its products. Not one damn word. Phony two bit politician. I smell a Democratic Party fix on this.
As for your petition, you can fold into a cone and...

Pat said nothing that hasn't been known for year. Do you not know that things are already in motion to fix the problems? Pat even said so himself. What about that is so hard to understand? Bottom line: Pat said it late and said it poorly and for that he deserves our support? You simply have to be related to him.

Coach Pflu exercised his right to free speech.....how did it work for him?
I don't know what else can be said. grizfan47 just nailed the whole point.

Williams was interviewed and quoted on a story about the Johnson trial. Independent of politics and thoughts on the football program this was either a purposeful or negligent attempt to effect the jury pool. That is reprehensible and likely the result of his ego and very poor judgment. We don't need that on the Board of Regents. This isn't a Second Amendment issue its an accountability one. He can legally say anything he wants. That doesn't protect him from being accountable for his stupid statements. Bye Bye Pat!

Williams needs to be removed and replaced with someone with a little more class.

i.e. somebody who will keep their mouth shut and hope everything magically goes away? How'd that turn out for Paterno, O'Day, Pflugrad?

You're an idiot if you don't think RP was trying to be proactive in addressing these scenarios...

You are entirely missing the point people are trying to make.

Give me one good reason why I missed the point! My case is pretty clear. He spoke his mind. Shines a light on a real issue. The issue is now being addressed. We DO have a problem.

No seriously GVR, you are completely missing the point people are clearly and strongly making about PW on this and other threads. It would be wise to re-read and reconsider your position...

There was already a light shining on the issue. It was already being addressed. No one said there was not a problem. PW does have the right to speak his mind, but he expressed his opinion poorly in this circumstance. Brint already covered the difference in how a person can express his or her opinion. No one has a problem about what his intent was, but his statement was poor. But you have already made up your mind, so I am done.

You are an idiot if you think RP wasn't. I know what he was doing. I've seen seen his multiple page list of what he was doing.

Anyhow, to answer this thread, the appropriate thing to do would be to start a petition praising both Williams and his critics for exercising their 1st Amendment right.

That said, the 1st Amendment allows us to call an idiot an idiot, and Pat Williams certainly came across as an idiot.

I think you just agreed with me....how does that make me an idiot?

So why not worry about protecting Robin Pflugrads freedom of speech when he stated his support for his player, and then got fired. He all but said that was the precipitating event in his Oregonian interview. Seems like a double edge sword to me.
