Owens into transfer portal

Does an athlete have to enter the portal if they are switching sports? No inside knowledge, just wondering if he wanted to go play basketball somewhere.

Do players ever enter the portal and then end up staying and playing? Would seem to be bridge-burning.

Yes.

Is he still practicing with the team?

Who? Owens? No idea.

I just know I've "seen" players enter the portal (that sounds so goofy) and then come back to the team. I'd imagine that's something the players on a team vote on, or team leadership decides. They usually know the full story. Us fans usually don't.

I heard Ifanse was the next to hit to portal.

That’s actually pretty legit. Following the Chris Murray school progression is what I heard and doesn’t like Bozeman on top of it.
You’re shitting! That’d be a huge loss.

I was kidding about my “Troy to Pac12” comment. I’m not kidding on Ifanse.
Ya Troys not going anywhere, but that’d be a massive loss if Ifanse leaves

Owens will go where his Dad tells him to go...just another one of the many "I am happy to announce that I am continuing my academic and athletic career at ……." that falls flat after a year or two of DI hopes.

Agreed Ifanse leaving would be a huge loss for MSU. Want to watch him some more but I think he is the best back in the conference and potentially the FCS by the time he is done. I am glad they use a lot of backs as I think this limits his touches.

This is the new reality with the portal. Teams are going to lose players. No team is immune. There are going to be surprises. Yes, if Ifanse leaves the Cats it would be a big loss. It is just a rumor at this point. However,he was out most of the year and the Cats running game was fine. It's all about next man up and recruiting when it happens. I am sure the portal has caused coaches to adjust their recruiting strategy.

The portal, play 4 and still redshirt, and the early signing period have caused a huge change. Personally, I don't think it is helping anything. Kids aren't patient. They who aren't willing to put in their time and the work to earn a starting job can just transfer to greener pastures. To find out it usually isn't greener.

Going into the portal doesn't seem to show the level of dedication to the program that most coaches want.

Oh?

Sneed? Rice? Mallory? Babros? Vinyard? Humphrey?

Players transfer for a variety of reasons. We benefit from transfers more than we don't. I try not to deride the players transferring. We never mind when they transfer here.

21 carries coming back from an injury doesn't seem too limited to me. I wish he would've been more limited.

I'm pretty sure he's referencing entering the portal and then deciding to stay.
