Both of us are speculating but I at least have a basis for my theory: such metteling did not work with TG. What makes you think it will work this time? The only assurance I can think of is if there was a known DC willing to adopt Stitt’s unique approach. But you’re advocating to just fire the DC and figure it out later. That sounds worse to me and worse than a restart
Starting over completely on both sides of the ball is infinitely worse in my opinion than one side of the ball (the side that's failing). I mean, what's the worst that could happen? A new guy comes in here and his defense gives up 500 yards and 30 points a game? Why throw the baby out with the bath water? Much like TG did in Bozoland, a new guy would be taking over a situation where there's almost nowhere to go but UP.
Why do you think a new coach is "starting over"? It was wasn't from Read to Dennehy? From Dennehy to Glenn. From Glenn to Hauck. From Hauck to Pflugrad. From Pflu to Delaney. While I don't know why those transitions went well, or at least didn't take more than a season, I do note that each was a transition to a coach with significant connections to Griz Nation. To me, with a strong program with good tradition, the transition should never been "starting over". If Haslam hired Stitt to start over, then Haslam made a huge mistake and doesn't understand football or Griz Nation.
Starting over as in Stitt's system differs dramatically from Dennehy's and required a complete overhaul of the roster....
I don't agree. Pflu's system was not unlike Stitt's and he adapted with the personnel on board. And Delaney adapted back. I also disagree that anyone's system requires a complete overhaul of the roster. And, the defense certainly doesn't require a complete overhaul of the roster.
Back to O. BG did fairly well at QB. But other QB's may be better. Running backs. Nope. O-lineman. Not much. 4 of the 5 starters this year are not Stitt recruits. Receivers. Just need more good receivers. H-backs. Nope.
Stitt may have overhauled the personnel, but it wasn't because none of them could adapt to his system.
