OH MY F'n GOD WHAT A GAME!!!!,!

I don't know why teams play prevent defense when it comes down to winning a game. You see it everywhere, even the pros do it...

Dumbest thing CP did all day was allow the Griz to select WHICH END ZONE to play the OT in. If they'd been smart, they would have selected the OTHER end, and not cared who had the ball first.

Concur. In 2006 at San Jose State Poly kicked off in both the first and second halves.
When Poly won the toss, rather than say "defer" the captain said "we'll kick". Even smart
kids can make poor choices. Congrats to the Griz.

hell Montana did that last year.

Noticed in a few threads on other boards, that some CalPoly fans are blaming their coaches....lol. Interesting how everyone blames the coaches when it goes wrong, and give kudos to the kids when it goes right. The interesting thing is, I bet that's exactly how the coaches would prefer it to be anyway.

btw we are 6-1.....but our coaches suck. I think egriz fans are about 2-5 for confidence in our team. Take our coaches ANY day of the week over the armchair whiners.
Here's one criticism of coach Walsh that I'm quite happy to comment on: when they had the ball late in the first half inside our 40, 3rd & 4 & elected to throw an incompletion, then punt. They were cramming it down our throat at that point, & I was under the assumption they were in 4 down territory there. They wasted an opportunity to go down & put a dagger in us at the end of the half, & with them getting the ball 1st in the 2nd half, couldn't slammed the door early on us. If they run it twice there & continue that drive, I think we have a different outcome. I, for one, am happy they chose to do what they did. Phew.

I feel the same way about Cal Poly fans. Our coaches suck according to some fans, but they took a top ten team to OT on the road in the toughest stadium in the FCS. Something says that a coaching staff that sucks would rolled in a similar situation. They give the coaching staff no credit for even making it a game. We were huge underdogs and for a few plays (blocked punt and FG) we pull off a HUGE upset. Easy to second guess after the fact. I am like all fans and second guess a few coaching decisions (like going to a 3 man rush on the last drive), but I am also know that they put together a great team and game plan that put them in a position to come so close to pulling off a huge upset.

SloStang you are to be commended for your objectivity and benevolence. If I were a CP fan I would be pissed that my team lost a game we should have won. I would be pissed at the refs for bad calls (e.g., CP fumble that did not occur except in the eyes of the refs, penalties against CP that kept Griz drives alive, CP coaching decisions, etc.).

Griz did great in crunch time to pull this game out, but stats show Griz had a little help. Griz need kind, benevolent fans like you.

Please mentor us fickle spoiled, angry Griz fans about objectivity and benevolence (me included since I think Griz Coach Delaney is not a good coach, although he is a hell of a nice guy). ;)

I haven't been a fan of this coach since last year and all the bone headed crap he pulled. I still don't like him or the playcalling. The playcalling has been pretty vanilla ever since the ND game and to say it hasn't been is to have your head up Delaney's a$$

Obviously you don't know him...I don't know anyone that does that doesnt like him. I'll take 6-1 from Delaney any day over a great coach that is sitting at 3-3 or 3-4.
You're right I don't know him and I'm sure he's a hell of a nice guy but hell of a nice guy does not translate into hell of a good coach...in this instance

Oh by far! I seen one of their LBs doing the feeding himself motion to the crowd like he was eating up the noise. Looks like they got full

Eh, Cal Poly fans are new to the Big Sky and don't have our profound appreciation for just how bad the refs are in general, and particularly when confronted by the WAGS crowd. Give them a few years of visits and head scratching calls and they will just expect it.

OGDEN, UTAH (Oct. 20, 2009) - Following a review of the Eastern Washington-University of Montana Big Sky Conference football game, the league has issued a statement in regards to the contest’s quality of officiating.
Third-ranked Montana beat Eastern Washington 41-34 in Missoula on Saturday, Oct. 17.
“The officiating in Saturday’s EWU-UM game was not up to the standards we expect and require,’’ said Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton. “Our officials are evaluated on every play of every game by observers in the stadium and by independent film evaluators - many with NFL experience - following the games. There are consequences for officials after they are examined.’’
Several plays were reviewed by the conference, its director of football officials Doug Toole, and independent observers. The league found two calls against Eastern Washington particularly troubling.
In the fourth quarter, an Eastern Washington player was called for a late hit out of bounds. The penalized player, however, was illegally blocked in the back by a Montana player, propelling him in to a Montana player out of bounds.
Late in the third quarter an Eastern Washington wide receiver was called for unsportsmanlike conduct as he slowed down on his way to the end zone. His actions, however, did not warrant the penalty.
“We continue to examine at least four more plays,’’ said Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton. “We don’t normally comment on officiating, nor do we plan to regularly do so in the future. However, there are cases where it is warranted, and this is one.’’
“We’re disappointed about the performance, but like the student-athletes and coaches who play the game, we look forward to the next game and getting it right,’’ Fullerton added. “I believe our officiating ranks among the best in the Football Championship Subdivision, if not all of Division I football.”

Hey look everybody, the Wicked Witch of the West has dropped by again. Yay!

I think if some of the other Big Sky fans believe that the refs in WGS get intimidated by the crowd and make "homer" calls that benefit the Griz, maybe they should start packing their stadiums and they might be able to get the same results!

This is one of the worst officiating errors I have seen, and it HURT the Griz at WGS. All the officiating whiners that act like some teams get it better than other are just that, whiners.

Ogden, UT (Sports Network) - The Big Sky Conference on Wednesday suspended the referee from this past Saturday's Northern Arizona-Montana football game for misapplication of a rule.

Big Sky commissioner Doug Fullerton announced Jim Lenau will be suspended for one game.

With the score tied 7-7 and 44 seconds remaining in the first half of Saturday's game in Missoula, Mont., Northern Arizona kicked the ball to Montana. The Grizzly player caught the ball and stepped out of the back of the end zone. The play was ruled a safety on the field and two points was awarded to Northern Arizona. The play should have resulted in a touchback for Montana.

Lenau issued an apology for the error following the game, which Montana won, 24-21.

I've seen people on this and other boards complaining that the refs cost Poly the game...give me a break. Was the fumble call bad? Yeah, and the Griz did score any points off of it, so it became moot. It wasn't a first down for Poly, and they didn't score the entire second half, so it is a giant leap to imply that somehow that would have been the drive...Should we go back and watch the film and point out all the holding calls that weren't flagged on Poly? No, because it doesn't mean crap.

So now it's time to start the name-calling. That is the last refuge of small minds. What are you in elementary school?

Ignore the rare CP fan complaining about the officiating. 99% of their fan base is better than that, witnessed by SloStang, one of the better posters on this board. Those 99% know that only losers whine.

As for eag fans, well, see my final sentence above. I do, however, appreciate the efficiency they are displaying by already getting their excuses in order. :thumb:
