Game suggests lack of film/momentum gave result to the first half.
Second half good adjustments by UNI. Griz couldn't respond in the same fashion.
Line played better then led to believe.
Clean up ST.
Some challenges? Missed an easy fumble and 4th and long play was at least a yard short.
Calhoun, impressive.
Flowers, young.
Dante, wow.
Sneed, is a hard hat and lunch pail kid. Got some cleaning to do but he shows tons of promise.
I saw fire in that team that has been missing for sometime.
Tough UNI team.
Another 5 mins in that game, the W would be an L.
Congrats on the win boys!
Enjoy the late night liquor.

For me, one of the most glaring issues was dropped passes in critical situations. The Curran drop late in the 4th comes to mind. Crap like that changes the complexion of a game. Clean that up and some of UNI’s scoring might not have happened. In the 2nd half, the O could not give the D a break. Against a big, veteran O-Line like UNI’s, those guys in the D line will get gassed without a break. Staying on the field on O helps the D get off.

That being said, this team had a TON of fight. While execution was lacking in the 2nd half, they stayed physical, tough, and determined. Hauck and company have hammered out a team that fights hard. That’s a great place to start.

PS- after watching this game, I think we lose if Gresch was starting.

Agreed. Completely unnecessary comment.

It wasn’t a comment on his toughness or willingness to put it on the line. I just think that Sneed’s skill set prevented several breakdowns in OLine play from being outright catastrophies. Also, I feel like Jensen is less of a run threat and is much less nimble than Sneed. Yes he can stretch the field with his arm, but I think he wouldn’t have had the time to do it, this nullifying his greatest strength.

Nice comment PDX , Its a hard for some people to accept the obvious truth.
I like how you broke down your observations and worded it so simple that the not so smart posters will have a hard time refuting them.

Great argument arguing against a completely unknown situation.

I think we’d have won by 21 with Jensen. See how easy that is?

Just don’t understand the need to beat down a kid who’s long gone. Can’t just revel in the win?

I nailed it. I'm happy with the game plan the offense put together. Here is what I posted earlier, before the game.

If this is truly a weakness, as fans we need to pay attention to what the coaches do to compensate for the lack of experience and depth on the OL.

Against a quality defense, coaches will need to call for a lot of quick passes (slants and hooks), quick hitting runs (a lot of dives), and screens (defense will likely be very aggressive to test the OL). Expect a lot of 2 TE and FB packages as well.

Against weaker defenses, I hope the GRIZ experiment with longer developing plays, more 3, 4, and 5 WR packages. Only after they put up a solid lead.

If the GRIZ decide to call plays that hinder an OL, then I feel some criticism to coaches would be warranted. I hope this offensive staff is not as hindered, stubborn, etc as it was when RP was Hauck's OC. I'm hoping that Hauck learned some lessons from that time.

If we at egriz are complimentary toward the play calling and execution, then we will all be happy after the game. How possible is that?

his response is completely rational. if you want to make absurd comparisons like that, at least give a little evidence to back up your assertions when you make them.

What’s “irrational” is to beat down a kid who’s not even on the fucking team anymore. I see ZERO to be gained from that “comparison”. There is absolutely nothing “known” about how Jensen would have done Saturday in that game. Every single thing is absolute conjecture—not a single fact in his conclusion.

Stitt’s gone. Jensen’s gone. I dont’ understand peoples need to continue beating them down—especially Jensen. That kid gave everything he had for this team last year. We now have a new coach, a new QB, both of whom delivered a clutch win yesterday. I don’t understand why we can’t enjoy that victory without bringing up players who aren’t even on the team anymore.

Jeeeez! Relax! He is just talking football, and making a totally rational argument. We know you love Jensen, but his argument has merit, and was not meant to slam Jensen, just made to compare the two QBs playing against NIU last night.

OK, sure.

Sheeeeesh. I said Sneed was better suited for what the rest of the offense was (or wasn't) this spring. Not a slam on Gresch at all. It's an opinion.

That's what is done here on a daily basis, compare this to that or the other.

Actually, it really wasn’t. I thought that given the play style that we saw and Jensen’s body of work last year that it was a reasonable assessment.

Here is my opinion of GJ: he is a fine athlete and an excellent QB who didn’t fit as well with the system or the coaching staff (I have no knowledge of why he chose to move on, so yes, I am inferring his rationale for leaving). That is absolutely no knock on him. He was recruited to play for Bob Stitt in Bob Stitt’s system. All that changed and he seemed to feel that UM wasn’t his home anymore. I’m very thankful for all he has done and wish him the best in all he is going to do. From Rosenbach’s last tenure here and elsewhere, he seems to favor more nimble QBs so that they can be more of a run threat. Gresch, while able to run, does not fit that profile as well. It doesn’t play to his strengths. Given the O-Line’s issues against UNI, that nimbleness was invaluable.

My comment that offended you was meant as a consolation for all those who have doubts about Sneed and to illustrate that sometimes things that happen, happen for a reason. Sorry if that bothered you. I’m just doing my best to explain my rationale.

Gregh Jansen? That's a name about which I haven't thought in a long time . . . a long time.
