O-Line improvement

The O-Line has improved dramatically, not just since last year but the start of this year. That being said, I don't understand why Sacto was able to bring as much heat as they did. Every other team that has been listed as having an outstanding front seven never seemed to have the success that Sac did. Was it the scheme, or was it the talent or both?
Any answers would be appreciated.

"There is no evidence there will be improvement to the unit this season. None."

That was such a dumb and wrong statement.

In July there was no such evidence, tool bag.
SMH.

Let's see how they do against Weber and the cats. Last time they played an elite FCS d-line (sac st), they didn't perform well.

Still a work in progress.

So does "work in progress" not mean they could be improved?

They are improved..we now have some evidence we did not have this summer....actual game performance. They are still a work in progress...Weber and cats will test them.

So "actual game performance" is the only possible evidence? I guess "actual game performance" would be my threshold for evidence becoming proof.

I believe the high number of sacks on Cam at PSU had to do with the time it was taking him to find receivers. He is still coming up to game speed and though it is starting to slow down for him, he needs more game reps before he achieves Sneed's level of field vision. In fact when Sneed returns it may take a few quarters before he is back up to speed too.

Ok.

Picking up 3rd or 4th down with 1 yard to go should also be a stat (it is a team effort but the O-line usually gets credit or blame). I think the Montana O-line is much improved over the last two seasons. Big reason why they are 7-2 and knocking on the door to make the playoffs.

The coaching staff put credence on “actual game performance” playing several O-linemen early in season. Based on game performance the starting five have been established.
Firstdown performance is also a key in O-line success. Early down success limits the need for third and short or fourth and short conversions. There has been seemingly less fourth down attempts, credit coaches for punting early in season and following through with punting on fourth down. Some teams lean on fourth down attempts and have success, however it can backfire on teams also. Griz offense has improved moving the chains on the first three downs in part to improvement of O-lne.
The other x factor in O-line improvement is the TEs and their blocking. The multiple formations with two and three TEs and Fullback give needed help.
Additionally Mallory and the attitude he brings was a needed improvement, plus his dominance in the run game. Right side is where Griz have consistent success in the run game.

Have ya,ll calculated sacks by defensive ends, vs interior linemen? It appears our big Defensive tackles really struggle with a Hard charging Defensive end. Could it be a lack of agility? or are we asking too much of the big guys? Are todays
offensive line coaches looking for Quicker and more athletic tackles? Really, most defenses today are using 3 down, and 4 down in short yardage. I know our defensive coaches are always looking for a defensive end like that kid from Sac State. But O my friends "The Great a Game is Football" Go Griz, we need this one...

Sneed has been sacked 14 times for 69 yards. Humphrey 9 for 40 yards. My impression is that Sneed is better at avoiding sacks.

Humphrey's efficiency rating is a bit better than Sneed's 152 to 147. Humphrey was 222 at PSU.

Because Sneed is "Spiderman" ask the PSU Coach...lol

2 of 5 OL starters didn't have scholarships in July. Where is this year's OL without those two?

I believe they were on the team this summer, wtf does scholarships have to do with it .

Just an observation. 40% of the OL starters were either not yet committed or walk-ons in July.

No idea, but I can't imagine he wouldn't be interested...

We have the best operating O-Line we have had since 2011 IMO! It can only get better. Bigger and brighter days to come!

While I can’t speak to what Andy will or won’t do, I imagine he’s got his sights set a bit higher than UM, and if his defense continues to improve, whose to say he won’t get an opportunity

Who wasn't committed in July?

Even is this is true, does it matter? The point is that Hauck et al were working on improving the o-line since before last season was over. Multiple steps were taking. The improvement was evident in spring ball and has continued.

I had the same takeaway after Saturday. Humphrey is good, but he doesn't escape the rush/pocket quiiiiiite as good as Sneed does when it begins to collapse on him. Obviously he made leaps and bounds improvement the past two weeks and those experiences will serve him very well going into next year though.

I would say hes doing exactly what you want a backup QB to do. Instead of forcing to extend plays and maybe taking a risk.....Just eat it, take the sack...dont turn the ball over and play the next play.

Hes doing exactly what you want a backup QB to do. Avoid turnovers make a couple plays a game otherwise let your very talented roster around you make plays.

Stats say one thing

Eyes say the same thing... they have improved and the scary thing is they are still young and will get even better.

This entire team is unbeilvably young. Theres so much to be excited for in the future of this team.

Can anyone remember a Griz team that has played so many freshman and sophomores??? I cant
