If UM is going to give available schollies away, I feel Tom Martin (#35) should get one first. He's been here the whole time, is a Montana native, and from what I've seen, he can play. I was hoping BH would throw the kid a bone when the OL from Washington didn't show. Perhaps there is some NCAA rule I'm not aware of or something?

Glurk,

I am curious what kind of NCAA rule might you be referring to. Will you please clarify, thanks.

I was not referring to any specific rule. I was just thinking out loud if there is some kind of set time period where the head coach can offer a scholarship and that time had past to re-offer it to one of our walk-ons.

I have no idea, but if you have trouble sleeping anytime, here is the link to the NCAA website, there is a ton of info there

www.ncaa.org

Tom Martin is a pretty good I-AA backup LB. Quinn is a very good I-A potential starter. LB is perhaps our biggest strength. OL might be the biggest weakness. That's why Quinn gets the scholarship. Just being from Montana and playing your heart out for 3 or 4 years doesn't entitle you to anything. Hauck's job is to make the team better than it is right now, not settle for a share of the Big Sky.

As predicted, it didn't take long for the personal slams, the "pessemistic poster" rants, and the "bad fan" diatribes to surface. Of course, the point of the post was conveniently skirted in favor of slaying the messinger. ......

Aw, Pickle, this is so typical of your style.
You are a pessimist, and worse, you're a pessimist with an agenda. You have made no bones about your animosity toward BH and his staff.
No one skirted anything, I guess I just take issue with blind acceptance of your judgement as to who is a thug and who isn't.

Seattle Griz Fan said:
Some of you are actually embarrassing to the Griz fans who have the ability to separate right from wrong.

Like you? King Solomon.

Seattle Griz Fan said:
It is hypocricy in thinking that it is cool when Bobby recruits a kid of questioneable character while accusing other schools of being thugs. .......

I have no problem with your premise and in fact agree that we should avoid the "thugs" and "recruits of questionable character"
I just have a hard time seeing you (whom I envision sitting on your chaise, out by the pool, sipping corona's and inspecting your prosthesis) as a credible judge of someone you don't know.
And you accuse others of lack of objectivity, tsk. tsk.

Seattle Griz Fan said:
How weak it is to avoid the topic of the post, and to resort to 5th grade name calling. I am sure that the many high quality posters on this board can see through this shallowness of some of these posters.......

No one is avoiding anything, simply disagreeing with your quick characterization of kids you don't know.

Seattle Griz Fan said:
Mania and Putter, you have gained my respect for your candid comments. You did not necesarily agree with my post, but you actually were able to discuss the points intelligently, something that some of the more "popular, good fans" can do only in their dreams.......

I'm sure they wait with bated breath for your approbation.

A google search on Coleman, will quickly prove that I am not "making up stuff". His problems with the law started in high school, causing many IA teams to back off him, including Michigan and Iowa, who were recruiting him hard. He then had three more incidents at Iowa State. Give him a second chance? O.K., just tell me how many chances we should give him......he's on #5 currently.

By your count. however, it's my contention that you haven't given him even 1 chance.
How nice to be such a self righteous, self appointed judge and jury.

I too can not stand hypocrites. Why such animosity towards the coaching staff?
I began my last post by pissing in the cornflakes of every coach since Don Read, and included Don in the process, Why? To make the point that coaches are human, they have shortcomings.
Good coaches attempt to cover their weaknesses with strengths.
BH & company may not be the best tacticians in the world (I certainly am not qualified to judge) but by most accounts, BH is building what many consider the greatest assemblage of talent in Griz history. Give the man his due. He is taking on the task of being coach, mother, father, prosecutor, defender, judge and jury for every member of his team. additionally, he has to balance the needs of his students, the requirements of several bureaucracies, and the demands of fans - for a lot less money than you make/made from your easy chair as prosthetics magnate and slum-lord.

I'll say this about Hauck - he ain't perfect, and he may not (yet) be a superior tactician (though we have seen signs of brilliance, IMHO) but the man definately has hair - he has shown a willingness to accept risk and accept responsibility for his choices.
For that, at least, he deserves some respect.

Amen to BH taking chances. He has fun using his holder, kickers, and punters with many trick plays. Amazingly enough they usually work. Every griz game I sit there wondering when will Bobby's trick play come and what will it be? That alone keeps my butt in the seats regardless of score. As for the tactical part of the game, he is learning as is Phenicie. I will not be surprised to seeing the offense open up the Playbook a lot this year. I think we finally have the offensive talent at all the skill positions to do that. Maybe in the past they were not comfortable with our talent to open it up?

Trick plays, Veer offense (Idaho), who can play-who can't.

BH, in an interview (amongst BSC coaches) about preferred weather, said he preferred whatever was most uncomfortable for Griz opponents.
He hates to lose and seemingly, considers every angle.
He appears to be a tireless student of the game, and doesn't think "the streak" was "obscene". What's not to like?

If he sticks around, I think he'll be an excellent coach in his own right.

The "streak" comment Joe Glenn made still pisses me off. I really would have been just fine had the kitties never won another game in the series. :twocents:

I thought you were talking about the streaker during the Cal Poly game. That WAS obscene, but still hillarious.

If it is true, that Seattle Griz Fan is in reality, the infamous AZ then shouldn't the powers that be zap him out of cyber space before he once again infects our humble home with the vile illness that has became him?

IMO, at the very least, other posters should avoid and ignore this king of narcissism and his vileness or themselves be sucked in the abyss of AZhell and suffer the same fate that has befallen his sour soul.
just m :twocents:

In other words, go away AZ and quit ruining my thread!

Actually, If this is Az, It seems to be a quieter, gentler, one of his multiple personalities.
Now he's just another malcontent.
Hardly sufficient reason for "the boot".
Dissenting opinion should be not only accepted, but welcomed....as long as it is polite dissent.

If you recall, Az has been booted under at least 30 different names. How many chances should he have? He always starts out the same, to try and make us belive he is some guy who has been reading the board, but was afraid to post, because if you don't agree with the sugarcoaters, then you are banned, yada yada yada.

Then he begins to rip on Hauck, then on the Phenecie, and heaven forbid the Griz don't call every play as he would have (after the fact) . Mark my words, he will never change, the "small man syndrome" in him always comes out. It has happenned every single time, and will again. :twocents:

Yip, lets hear it for being proactive.

Hey, I've got an idea!

Let's have our new players (thugs) change their names.
Then they can have as many chances as they like and none of us will be hypocrites unless SD recognizes the fact that he too is one.

Whuddaya think?

Damn! sometimes I amaze myself, I'm so smart my head hurts.

I think it is great we are giving this kid a shot. More talent for he Griz.

You dont think those shady summer jobs(no pun intended) where athletes get more than they should happen right here in Missoula? It does, all the time!!!!

It happens in every college town where boosters invest $$$ in the athletic programs and want to see it excell.

Let the kid prove his worth on the field. Whats the worst that could happen...Chatty??

I am not "pickle boy", but I will humor your post anyway. You answers were a total cop-out. Talk about seeing things through cloudy lens......you take the prize! I could go through your answers to my post, point by point, but is would be waste of time trying to make a point with pseudo-Bill O'Reilly. You are truly beyond help. Now, be sure not to misplace your maroon-lensed glasses.

Seattle - When did Craig Chambers EVER get into off the field trouble? Enlighten us since you are from the area. Secondly, since when is Josh Swogger a I-A misfit. Craig Ochs, Joe Douglass, Drew Miller, ect.....Coleman has apast, and J.D. Quinn and Rhett Bohmar did waht any person their age would have done whether they played football for a DIA program or were just the sone of a garbage man. When somebody tells a KID that you can have something for nothing, the KIDS are going to take it. They are not criminals or thugs and neither is Coleman or anyone else. Tha term thug has a lot of racial overtones as well. And that disappoints me on this board. No wonder people three states away still
think we ride horses to work every day.

DAMMIT - I promised a buddy of mine I wouldn't get back on the soapbpx so soon. "Just when I think I'm out, They pull me back in......."

HavrGriz,

You apparently aren't familiar with Az/Wolf/Roaring/Seattle/Pickle boy but let me assure youhe does not live in Seattle, nor is he in Spokane as he inferred a couple weeks back, not is he at Torrey Pines, nor Las Vegas, all places he has claimed. He is a part timer in Missoula and is in Az, (hence AzRoaring and AzGriz) the rest of the time. He hates Hauck and Phenecie, thinks he knows everything about football and has even gone so far as claiming to have played for the Griz, but he was busted on that as well. Hr is just a short little old man who never coul dplay the game, is jealous Hauck is the Coach, and deep inside he wished he was Mike Kramer's son, and of course, we do as well. Do not expect anything from him except the same old crap he spewed over at UGMB, before he caused it to be shut down and now he is over here causing trouble as usual.

GB - I actually used to have some great battles late at night with him when he was still AZ...I guess I just didnt read the signs in his post. Went back and reread and it does sound eerily similar. No...I KNOW AZ all too well, but thanks for the lookin out.

Havgriz:

Feel fortunate if you missed out on the AZ debacle. The guy was in the least a huge nuisence and at worst made many of us concerned for our physical safety.

GB1 speaks the truth when he says that AZ was responsible for the demise of one of the oldest griz boards.
