now NCAA investigation......

Weren't DOJ and DOE investigations started after NCAA? I can't remember the time lines for all of this.

Kind of makes Pflugrad's departure pretty explainable.

No one even knows what the investigation is about.

My guess is improper benefits. But the fact that the investigation is happening gives a lot of very feasible explanations. I am not saying that is what happened, but if a coach is fired without cause, and it comes to light that his program has been under the scrutiny of an investigation for several months, well I think we can say that might have had a part in the decision without being too radical. Its not too big of a leap.

If you take Engstrom by his statement, he has no idea what the NCAA investigation is about, what it is focusing on specifically. How does this lead to cause for Pflu being removed from his position?
There is a difference between Engstrom knowing what they should be investigating, and knowing what they actually are investigating, and apparently he knows what they should be investigating.

Reached by phone, Engstrom said he does not know the particulars of what the NCAA is investigating.

“Even if I wanted to tell you, I couldn’t, because the NCAA has not told me the intent of their investigation,” Engstrom said. “I can speculate, but I’m not going to do that.”

Wow, according to this site there are a lot bigger rape problems at other schools. Sorry just putting it in perspective....

http://campus-safety.findthedata.org/saved_search/College-Rape-Statistics" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Scroll right and filter on forced rape...

Kind of surprising that thug schools like Harvard and Stanford top the list. Oh look Gonzaga and ND made the list too.

It doesn't say anyting about not investigating rapes though (due to it may hurt the football program) anywhere in there? So yes, I think UM has the bigger problem (The NCAA/FEDS seem to think so as well).

EDIT: Oops Gavin beat me to it.

I had friends in Red's a few days after the firings who were approached by guys wearing NCAA logo-wear. According to my friends these guys were asking patrons questions, seemed like they were just trying to get a "feel" for the community and what people were hearing about UM athletics. This NCAA investigation announcement is therefor is no surpise to me.

personally, i just read everettgriz's posts for that feeling, rather than the whole site. poor old leathertitgriz, it's been a rough couple days.

Curious how the fact that um knew it was under investigation prior to national signing day, but not being able to disclose that info to recruits and parents will play out.

I didnt think the rapes or the doj/doe investigations would cause a signee to ask for a release, but an ncaa investigation may be the last stray for one or two signees. Thoughts?

It's been a long time coming. Like it or not the Grizzly Football program has been out of control (off the field) for years. I've tried to bring some of it to light, by sharing my personal experiences on this message board, only to be attacked, threatened and slandered by a few select posters. It is sad what has been happening in my hometown for the last decade, and I'm glad steps are being taken to clean things up. If that means winning a few less Football games a year, so be it.

I agree 100%. The pressure to win at all costs, keep playing in the NC game, etc., has caused two coaches to sell our souls to the devil in order to keep the train rolling. No coach could possibly survive a couple of average or down years in this program. The fans are relentless, the expectations unreasonable, and the pressure on the head coach is ridiculous, to be honest.

All of you Hauck-lovers (listening Playa Rape?) can now eat crow, because all of this B.S. started with him. He would gladly take any mis-fit players with talent who had been kicked off their team, in his relentless pursuit of landing an FCS job. He basically used UM as a spring-board, with no regard for what was left when he departed. If any of you think that Bobby Hauck cared about the University of Montana, at the expense of his own imperialistic ambitions, you are smoking wacky weed.

That's what happens to those who get an inferiority complex because of a second-rate education at MSU.

I think that's probably a very valid question/concern, wbt.

I would imagine there may be some kids who want to know the findings before they land on campus.

Growler, I will ask one more time. NAME the mis-fit- criminal players that Hauck brought in, that specifically contributed to wins, i.e. starter or at least signifigant playing time in MORE THAN ONE GAME...And you can skip Tru because No. 1 other than the Taser incident, which ended up being a misdemeanor, he has NEVER been in legal trouble. and 2. YOU AND Alpha are the ONLY ones who wish he wouldn't have came to MT. NAME the others.

good point. i would think new recruits could use that as a reason for getting out of their scholarship unless we informed them of the situation prior to signing day. you'd think that would be something they have a right to know before signing. seems kind of unfair to not let them know. i can't imagine we did, because that almost certainly would've been leaked.

what do you expect from a guy who's mentor (Rick Neweasel) has jumped from program to program just ahead of NCAA sanctions. i think old Bobby is getting his just rewards at that football coaches dead-end of an institution UNLV.

Oh my word you guys are nuts. It was discussed a few month back about the possible NCAA investigations. Why all the surprise today? Typical knee jerk known as eGriz.

I think you all need to wait to find out the outcome before you start throwing coaches, AD's etc, etc under the bus. Talk about jumping to conclusions...

Give it a rest. Good, bad or indifferent it will all wash out. We'll be a better program for it. I have faith in that.

Go Griz!

i don't like msu and i don't think it's as good as montana tech for education but it is FAR from a second rate education!
