There's some irony in the fact that McCaffrey's hire happened the same day CSU's new coach was introduced in Ft. Collins. Already it looks like the Bear's hire will be looked on more favorably by the media than the Rams hire of the recently fired Boston College coach who was like 44 and 44 in 7 years in Bean Town. The Denver Posts lead sports scribe has already blasted CSU for hiring a loser with zero exposure to recruiting anywhere this side of the continent. Butte native Sonny Lubick, still revered at CSU, damned the hire with faint praise..."I hope he does well."
While McCaffrey's experience was pretty much limited to Valor Christian, a premier 5A program, the guy obviously knows football and his storied career with the Broncos suggests he finally might bring some overdue attention to UNC football where there's been a historic absence in the Denver media. I suspect more than a few folks will come around to believe that they made a better pick than CSU. Should be fun to see what kind of staff he assembles and how well he's able to turn the program around. For McCaffrey it's an obvious progressive rung on the coaching ladder.
