Northern Colorado

There's some irony in the fact that McCaffrey's hire happened the same day CSU's new coach was introduced in Ft. Collins. Already it looks like the Bear's hire will be looked on more favorably by the media than the Rams hire of the recently fired Boston College coach who was like 44 and 44 in 7 years in Bean Town. The Denver Posts lead sports scribe has already blasted CSU for hiring a loser with zero exposure to recruiting anywhere this side of the continent. Butte native Sonny Lubick, still revered at CSU, damned the hire with faint praise..."I hope he does well."

While McCaffrey's experience was pretty much limited to Valor Christian, a premier 5A program, the guy obviously knows football and his storied career with the Broncos suggests he finally might bring some overdue attention to UNC football where there's been a historic absence in the Denver media. I suspect more than a few folks will come around to believe that they made a better pick than CSU. Should be fun to see what kind of staff he assembles and how well he's able to turn the program around. For McCaffrey it's an obvious progressive rung on the coaching ladder.

That's a good take on the situation. UNC has gotten way more airtime and pub than CSU has in the past 24 hours, and that never happens. The CSU is a head scratcher, but people are pretty interested in story at UNC. As a UNC fan, I wasn't too happy at first but I'm warming up to the idea , but the biggest thing is he needs to do is hire a great staff. I would love for him to keep some of our current assistant coaches, especially Marty English, and Trent Matthews. Also, I know it's a very slim chance, but maybe he can convince his son, Luke to transfer from Nebraska and play QB for the Bears.

I agree fully with BSB, this is a fantastic hire for NCU. "Coach" McCaffrey will bring a diverse background from organizing flag football camps to being a top-notch saucier in the cutthroat world of small-batch, artisanal condiment production.

I predict that NCU will recapture the glory they once held as the premier football program in the Big Sky Conference.

The CSU guy seems to be a disciple of Coach Ron Ash - "The Art of Playing .500 Ball".

I have learned that Christian McCaffery is Ed McCaffery's son. I don't really care who coaches NoCo but I should thank him for helping me to a very solid fantasy football season.

And now a headline on the ESPN web page: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...-mccaffrey-named-head-coach-northern-colorado

I'm curious, what with his experience running camps, if there are any plans for him to hold a Lonely MILF camp similar to the one coach choaters runs. I would think the opportunity for those ladies to have a cocktail, relax and "learn" from a former NFL player would be irresistible.

He’s played at all levels, his kids have played at all levels. He’s got nfl and college connections all over, and he has a name that stands out in Colorado. It’ll be interesting to see what he can put together.

two things come to mind......1..recruiting......there are over 110 high schools along the east slope alone that play football...I would bet he knows lots of the coaches or they know about him for sure...2...he should help with fund raising with name recognition and knowing folks with deep pockets.........UNC could use help in both areas....

Why do you need to be such a prick about it?

Look, this is a nice hire for noco. Hell, by their standards it's a home run. But if -- and given their liabilities I think it's a BIG if -- he has any success at all, he'll leave that coaching office as empty as Nottingham on a game day.

My thought too.

Here's the scenario: Mr. ".500" Addazio gets three years at CSU, maybe four. Even if he hires an assistant who can recruit the base (Colorado and the adjacent plains states), there's no reason to expect him to do any better at CSU than he did at Boston College. Not a happy fan base.

Meanwhile, McCaffrey gives NoColo its first winning season since 2016 (6-5). Their 2020 schedule looks beyond brutal (includes MSU, EWU, Sac State, UM, and Weber), so there's not much hope there. But, make no mistake, the Bears do have some individual talent ... they just need to be coached up. Add a few transfers and drop-downs and NoColo could at least be competitive in the Sky. Bingo! Addazio out at CSU, McCaffray in.

Whoa-WHOA! Sir, we don't call names, sir. NCU has a thread on the front page of eGriz, and we don't even play them this week. The poster gave credit to the new coach and predicted good things for the NCU program. I'm far above calling names, so credit to me for not calling your response something a prick would say.
