I’m surprised he lasted this long. I see you Bob Stitt!

I could definitely see him landing there. Right back home for him
I think that’d be a great job for him. I think he is an FCS head coach, and at UNC there’s no pressure to win right away. He’s starting with a blank slate with Jacob Knipp graduating. He could build this program exactly the way he’d want to.
Even better fit if UNC moved back to DII where they belong.

No, because other sports have done really well at the D1 level. Mens/Womens hoops (both have made the NCAA tourney), volleyball has won the conference championship, and wrestling is pretty good as well.

Your men’s BB team had to cheat to get to the tournament, and even then needed massive assists from the officiating. Your women’s team was good, what, once?

Fine. Stay DI, drop football, leave the bsc and go independent.

Big Sky, that is a fair point. Wish you guys well, as far as football goes you're in a very deep hole.

I could see Pflugrad applying too. Would be a good fit for him too. What about Andy Thomson. Lots of good potential candidates if any of them are actually interested
Tough sell. NoColo has the same problem as Portland State ... FBS teams at Boulder and Fort Collins, within easy driving distance. Not to mention the Air Force Academy.

And Wyoming

Thanks. The football roster is not overall a good one, but Collins was always good at getting good skilled position players. The issue was linemen on both sides of the ball. Succeeding in college football is 90% recruiting, and he just couldn't get the job done.

Saw parts of several NoColo games (recorded them and then did a kind of "highlight reel"). It seemed to me that Collins must have also had a fairly weak staff. Perhaps it was just demoralization at how the season was going, but it seemed like a lot of the team's fundamentals were just bad ... missed or poorly-executed blocks and tackles, wimpy route-running by receivers, etc. Your thoughts?

True. I don't think we have a good strength coach, and our offensive line has been really bad for a number of years and I chalk that up to poor coaching.

Another racist decision by a Big SKKKy Conference team. Ho-hum I guess. :hitit: :die: :die:

It's almost 2020 and this shit is still happening.

What ??? Firing a coach for losing ???? Hate to break it to you, friend, but this is not a new concept.

This just in: Coaches get fired if they can't do the job.

There will be more at the FCS level, but as of now:
Ron Prince -- a black -- has been put on "administrative leave" at Howard for "verbal abuse and mistreatment" of his players. Howard is a HBCU, so this "doesn't count" on the racism scale.

Compare that to Mitch Stewart -- a white guy -- just relieved as head coach at Murray State. No accusations of any problems ... other than a crappy record. Over five years his teams were 19-37 (34%). Murray State was his first HC job.

And how about Robert “Bobby” Lamb -- another white guy -- who just got dumped at Mercer. He was very successful at Furman (67-40), taking them to the FCS quarterfinals in 2004. So Mercer hired him to pump up their pitiful program as it moved from the non-scholarship Pioneer to the SoCon. He was 41-39 (51%) overall in seven seasons at Mercer, but 24-30 in the SoCon … and he’s gone.

Collins got nine years at NoColo, even though his overall record was 27-69 (28%). During his tenure, the Bears had two “winning” (6-5) seasons. UNC brought him in from HBCU Alcorn State, where he was 8-12. The real question is not why he was fired, but it has nothing to do with racism. The real questions are: (1) Why was he hired to begin with, with a losing HC record? (2) How did he last so long?

I'll leave at that.

So this might have legs now.

Stitt not returning to Texas State.

You can dream, but don't hold your breath on either count. It's hard to get hired as a DI HC when you've been fired from your last two coaching jobs. And UNC has never been a threat to BH, scores:

38-10
41-20
52-7
53-21
27-16

Old joe Glenn had success in previous century at D2 level. Since then pretty much a Thelma Louise end for coaching careers

It would be fun though, I think he may just have a shot at the UNC job, the other not so much :thumb:

He couldn’t even beat UNC while coaching the Griz.

Any coach taking that job better get a 5 year contract with guarantees for assistant coaching salaries and facility upgrades. Otherwise - why waste your time? Turning around that dumpster fire would be very difficult.
