Northern Colorado

Any coach taking that job better get a 5 year contract with guarantees for assistant coaching salaries and facility upgrades. Otherwise - why waste your time? Turning around that dumpster fire would be very difficult.
They gave Earnest Collins Jr. NINE years.

That job has exactly what Stitt is looking for:

Zero expectations.

Stitt not returning to Texas State.

Bring Gresch Jensen with him.
Jensen played in but 5 of TX St's 12 games; apparently more concussions. 15 sacks. He might be done.

Yikes. Hopefully he throws in the towel, one more season of college football isn’t worth a lifetime of brain injuries.

Maybe discussed already, but what does it take to kick Northern Colorado out of the Big Sky?

And S. Utah.

And maybe Cal Poly and Portland State.

Need to save this post until about March, when things are really slow. And then make it an elaborate thread about what the BSC “should” look like

The Texas State stats has him playing in 7 of 12 games, completing 129 of 206 passing attempts, throwing for 5 TD's and 6 Interceptions, and yahoo stats has him being sacked 15 times.

FoxSports has him at 5. Same other stats.

IMO, that’s a horrible hire. Sounds like he’s got no college coaching experience at all.

I would disagree. At worst they continue to lose. At best they get some name recognition and can start getting better athletes. This is the exact type of program that should take this risk.

Zip. And only a couple years at the high school level.

According to his Wiki bio, he's been coaching at youth camps for football since 2000, and has run multi-sports camps since 2011. So he may know how to run a small business, but he likely knows almost nothing about recruiting, collegiate compliance issues, etc. etc. On the other hand, he has three sons who were recruited into Power-5 programs, and a 4th son supposedly has offers right now from Michigan and Nebraska. So he knows that side anyway.

But hey, he has his own lines of mustard and horseradish sauce, so maybe he can spice up the training menu.

The high school is Valor Christian, the mega-dollar private school in south Denver. Likely have better facilities than UNC. The announcers on the Denver sports radio were trying to figure out why he took this job; one said "maybe he can work up to an NFL receivers coach job"; the other said (noting his 'connections' in the NFL) 'why doesn't he just get an NFL receivers coach job'. This was followed by a few minutes speculation on whether he will move to Greeley. They seemed to think the drive from Denver is pretty bad, but not that bad. They were clearly mystified but trying to be polite.

They did note that Mr. McAffrey's perceived 'cachet' my help recruiting.

He played for his dad in Allentown; a long family line of football coaches.

Interesting. That "pedigree" probably helped get him the job. I believe I've seen him interviewed on TV (when son Christian was in the running for the Heisman, I think). Very personable and well-spoken.

His cred as a long-time NFL player (with three Super-Bowl rings, two with Denver) will certainly help in recruiting. The dads will remember him, even if the potential recruits were barely in kindergarten when he retired from the NFL. Really a gutsy career move on his part, and smart. As someone said, the expectations at NoColo are pretty low. Even a moderate turn-around will get him some positive attention. If it doesn't work out, probably not that much of a hit.

Northern Colorado made an excellent decision to hire him. I’m betting he will be able to recruit some good players and build a competitive team in a few years.

I don't know what kind of coach he will be, but the splash factor at recruiting has to be good. Believe the kids went to a school in castle rock area which is a recent exploding affluent area south of Denver. The commute through Denver to Greeley every day is oppressive even if you take the shorter toll roads on the 470. He has to at least move north of Denver.

As far of coaching experience, head coach is a business manager. He will be as successful as the assistants he hires and the support the university gives him. Coaches are CEO's, even at the big sky level. We can make fun, but if he can get a small percentage of talent out of Denver then he will upgrade UNC if he has the right coordinators.
