Next up Griz at Reno 3/16 CBI Tournament

According to the bracket posted if Montana wins and ewu wins the Griz travel to Cheney for second round???

As far as this game goes Montana is the better team. However with travel and disappointment with how the BSC tourney ended I see the wolfpack getting a Griz team not at their best.
Go Griz

I think the 2nd round game would be open for a bid at that point if I'm reading how the CBI works correctly. So the Griz could outbid EWU and get the home game (I hope they do, I want to see the Griz with at least one more home game).

Not really sure though how the Griz didn't end up with a home game in the first round...unless the matchup was decided before the bidding took place so we had to bid against Nevada (who draws better than Montana). Or maybe the Griz just didn't bid for a home game in the first round :(

Hopefully if we do beat Nevada we'll put in a bid to host the 2nd round game for either a revenge game against Pepperdine or another great game to remember against EWU.

Maybe the conference had some motivation for a BSC team to play in front of a bigger Reno crowd to help promote the conference tournament next year. :?: Kind of coincidental we are playing Reno in Reno after our recent conference tourney there. BSC basketball headquarters- Reno. How does that sound?

I'm not so sure there will be a huge crowd for this game.

My thought exactly. If folks didn't go to Reno for the BSC tourney, why would they go for a one-shot deal? Makes little sense to me.

Uh, the Griz are playing Nevada-Reno. That's kinda like if the WAC tourney were held in Missoula, the turnout for an unfamiliar conference tourney would be a lot less than the turnout for a hometown Griz game...likewise, for Reno folks the turnout for the hometown Wolfpack will be much better than the turnout for the unfamiliar Big Sky conf tourney.

Not sure who you are responding to but I think we are both saying the turnout for this game should be much better than the conference tourney

That is an accurate statement. Why? It cannot be worse than the attendance for the conference tournament. That was flat out embarrassing.

I am not sure if you have read the Kamin or Missoulian lately, but i think it is pretty obvious Um didn't bid $40,000 to host this game to avoid being blasted again by the Kamin and Keila Szpaller- 'how can UM afford to give away $40,000 for a basketball game when they are cutting a personal assistant in the WGSS program from 1/2 to 1/4 time? blah blah blah." Yes that argument is nonsense and ignores the fact that the guarantee and game costs would have been paid by ticket revenue, and would have returned overhead and profit to the general fund of the University, but these are the same papers that just blasted the Washington's for giving money to build a Champions Center, and blasted the University for taking the money and building the center instead of diverting it to academics. Sometimes the battles are not worth the fight.

$40,000 is no small chunk o' change. Obviously if ticket prices average $10, you'd need 4,000 people to attend just to break even on the guarantee money. I doubt we'd draw 4,000, sadly. And of course, there'd still be costs associated with staffing, security, etc.

Still, I'd hope that UM would make a strong bid for a second round game.

Nevada starts 2 Freshman Cam Oliver who will be in the NBA in a couple years and Lindsey Drew, the son of former NBA player and Coach Larry Drew, a Sophomore Elijah Foster, a Junior D.J. Fenner, and one senior Marqueze Coleman or Tyron Criswell a Senior. The Griz haven't seen anyone as big or as athletic as Cam Oliver. The Wolfpack are a terrible from behind the 3 point line, but they have a team full of slashers. The bigs for the Griz are going to struggle matching the quickness of TC and Cam. The key for the Wolfpack is to not get into foul trouble due to the lack of depth on the bench. Should be a good game and I'm looking forward to it.

Nevada says they are livestreaming the Griz/Nevada game. http://www.nevadawolfpack.com/videos/

Can't tell if this is no charge or some type of subscription. Any tech savvy egrizzers know?

Unless something changes, don't expect Montana to host a game until the championship round.
