New Turf

Can someone post an image of the old center field logo next to a picture of the new one? Just curious how they compare to each other. I really don't see much difference between the old turf and the new turf. Thought they would have changed it up a little bit more.

Looks like the new one is a little darker and maybe not quite as much detail in the face. A little hard to see in the pictures.

Looks awesome except for the ridiculous required big sky logo.
There are certain times, under certain conditions, when you just say, "oops, we forgot."

On purpose.

Field looks GREAT.
Especially the Griz color lining on the numbers, that's SHARP.
Covering Griz at the previous Dornblaser, sitting next to Jack Swarthout, and its wooden high school bleachers, and (often) dead grass, I never thought I would see something like this at the collegiate level, or at UM. It's a fantasy-land; just incredible.

Right. The new one is maroon. The old one was brown with copper highlights (badlands sig). Also, the mouths are different.

With that written, the new logo started to be used at least two years ago.

This looks CLEAN. That green pops, and I like the end zones. I'm withholding judgement on the center logo until I see it at a game. I was pretty attached to the old one, might take a little while to adjust.

Overall, I like it too. But the new bear and all capital letters will need time for me to get used too. It does seem like the old bear is still in Dahlberg though.

As a bonus, I see the University invested in the stitched on letters/numbers/logos rather than paint, which will prevent any debacles like the one at the Hall of Fame game last weekend.

On a side note, does anyone know exactly how those things are "stitched" on?

They'll just have to remove it when we move up!

I will go on record as opposing a move up. We have enough trouble excelling now to even think about it.

Yes, msu has trouble excelling at anything.

Moron. You state right in your sig you're an msu fan. Time to create yet another new handle which won't fool anyone. Seriously? What is it with kitty fans pretending to be GRIZ fans on this site??

Here's a question and keep in mind, it's just a question. With this turf costing north of 400,000 and needing to be replaced every 8-10 years, what were we spending to keep the grass up? It seems like a lot, but I don't know. I like it a lot, but from a money aspect, is it saving or costing? I know many athletes like grass from a safety aspect on knees and toes as well. On the other hand, hitting the ground on the field in Conrad and the other 1B fields may as well have been concrete.

From what I remember reading awhile ago, it is actually cheaper going with the field turf. No more paying to watering it, fertilizing it, weed control, mowing, painting the lines, #'s, and logos, and overall payroll for the people that would take care of the field.

The HS I coached at in Texas changed from Grass to Turf the second year I was there. The figures that I saw was that it took 7 years to pay the turf off in water and upkeep. Anything over that was a money saver. The turf in Texas (about 10 years) ago cost 1 million.

SO, if UM's cost was 400,000 then yes turf saves money. A lot.
