MSU Cupcakes

State college is very happy with the Big Sky as their history is membership in lackluster conferences. When UM actually competed in the Pacific Coast and Skyline conferences, state college belonged to NAIA /Division2 conferences. The Big Sky Conference is big time for the mighty kitty cats.

MSU needs an easy schedule in order to give their offense the appearance of "dominance". They can rack up huge numbers on d2 schools and the weak defenses in the BSC and appear great on paper, but yeah they will never be a big factor on the national scale under Ash.

That being said, we should probably hold our tongues on the weak schedule talk here soon. I can't find the link, but I remember seeing a video where Haslam was talking about the Wyoming game, and the appeal of scheduling similar games with FBS schools. He isn't a fan, or didn't appear to be. Apparently we make more money on home games, and that seemed to be all he was interested in. So outside of Washington next year, we should probably strap in and prepare for some "Cupcake" games ourselves here soon. Unless, hopefully we can at least do a home and home with another strong FCS school like we have with NDSU.

If anyone can find that link please post it, not X/O related at all but interesting.

No, not at all but keep pretending that all we care about is winning the Big Sky, which we've done recently (BS Champs three times in the last five years), whereas the griz can't even win the Big Sky anymore.

All you guys care about is beating the Griz, which you have not been able to do with regularity since, what, ever? Actually, all you care about is the Griz losing. The Cat fan's order of favorable results is:

1. Griz lose
2. A Griz player gets in trouble
3. NCAA sanctions UM
4. Cats win

Heh....I'm really curious. When was the last time the Cats won an OOC game, preseason or playoffs, against a team outside of d2?

Last September.

The CATS are basically one off the cupcakes too. That's why beating them is nothing to brag about....

And #4 is completely dependent upon #3.

I would'nt call Montana's time in the Skyline Conference as "competing". The Griz never won more than three games per season until their final year of membership.....

I agree with some that this thread is pretty hypocritical. People act is if team's choose their conference schedule. I'll say it again, MSU, and EWU's choice to continue playing the two seasons they weren't schedule to play should be commended, not ripped. Either team could have easily ducked that one and they didn't.

But I also agree, MSU's schedule is much, much weaker than Montana's this season. Any attempt to debate that is pretty silly.

And I also thought CDA's list of MSU fans' priorities was pretty funny and, at least from a Bobcat Nation tone, spot on.

Montana is scheduled to play Washington in 2017, so that's another year yet. Montana is scheduled though to play a home and home with McNeese State in 2016 and 2017, going to Lake Charles first and then the Cowboys coming to Missoula in 2017. Chances are we might see a "cupcake" come into town in 2017 to add another home game, but it'd be nice to try and schedule another home and home game for 2016 and 2017 to avoid playing down. Either way, it's Griz football and I'll be in WGS watching whoever is on the schedule.

Talk about a cupcake game....that is the Bobcat game! Take a gander at the overall record annd even the casual sports fan would conclude it is a cupcake game for the Griz.

Well, what about the final year?

The Griz won 5 games and they did beat Colorado State in Fort Collins 16-15. The rest of their wins were against the usual scrubs MSU, Idaho, Idaho State and Weber State. 1 or 2 conference wins a year is not really competitive.....

So you bash the Cats for playing in a lower division for all those years, but will gladly take those wins for the overall record.

Well, CV, I saw many of those games when we were in the Skyline Conference. I would rather see us in a true Division 1 conference, rather than the B league of Cupcakes. However, if you are accustomed to seeing us play teams in high school stadiums, to each his own.

Spanky, not supporting the Cats at all, but to say playing EWU in a non-conference game instead of scheduling someone else is part of a joke schedule is just stupid no matter how much anyone hates the Cats. If EWU is a joke on MSU's schedule as someone eluded to earlier, than what the hell are the Griz for losing to the Eags the last how many ever times in a row? Again, I clearly stated the Cats' schedule is pretty bad and much, much weaker compared to the Griz. But playing Eastern when they didn't have to is not part of that weak schedule.
