I wonder how bad MORAL really is if even a kicker leaves? From what I am hearing, something is rotten in Denmark, as the sane goes.

It's not unusual for players who get beat out to leave, and that has nothing to do with morale. Greenberg came out of spring ball as the no. 1 kicker and has apparently been kicking well recently. Greenberg had terrific credentials from high school. Hopefully, he's now on track to step up to be a consistent kicker and more like what UM has had in the past.

We had three kickers. Worst was third string. Starting kicker is younger. Why would he stay?

Anyone who thinks Greenberg is going to be a solid FCS kicker needs to have their head reexamined. I will miss Worst and think he really had the potential to develop into something to rely on.

worst was perfect on xtra points, but missed almost half his field goals. strangely he was better from 40 and out than he was from 39 and in.

Worst was 9 for 17 as a freshman.
Carpenter was 18 for 29 and McKnight was 9 for 16.

Worst had a big leg and people will be mightily disappointed with Greenberg's KOs, unless we manage to have Lider stay on for those. If Worst is gone I expect Lider to take over all kicking responsibilities.

Worst was 2-5 inside the 40 last year. Had 2 kicks blocked. What's your basis for saying you think Lider will be the kicker this fall, given that Greenberg came out of spring ball as the no. 1 kicker. I know things can change by the fall, but I'm curious as to why you believe Lider will be the kicker.

Anyone who thinks kicking 40% from in the 40 is good kicking and should make the kicker the frontrunner to be no. 1 needs his head examined (to quote a certain poster).

Here's Worst's competition. Returning kicker. 61.2 average on kickoffs. 3 went out of bounds. (Worst 60.7 with none OB).

FIELD GOALS Made-Att Pct 01-19 20-29 30-39 40-49 50-99 Long Blkd
Austin Rehkow 10-17 58.8 0-0 5-6 3-5 2-5 0-1 41 1

I never said I thought Worst was the front-runner no.1 and you're cherry-picking stats. Why don't you consider outside the 40 when that is more difficult? And if you've seen Greenberg kick he can't even make it to the crossbar from 45.

I thought it was a legitimate competition between Lider and Worst. All I said is it better be Lider because if it's Greenberg people will be sorely disappointed. And of course I am all for players proving me wrong and helping the team, but this is a forum so I'm giving my opinion before the game is played and people play Monday-morning QB.

My armchair opinion: Worst was the best kicker option on the team, though, none of the options were what we had become accustomed to, but Worst had the most potential. Wish him well in Idaho.

IMHO cause I saw Worst kick in high school, I thought he had great potential to be good. They weren't going to scholarship another kicker and apparently either Greenberg or Lider got the money. Can't fault Worst for leaving, because as far as I know and it is purely speculation, he might have been told that he would get money if he left spring camp with the #1 job.

Neither of the three was lights out in the scrimmages, and apparently Greenberg had a leg up in practice. I was told this wasn't an acrimonious split, but rather Worst looking for a chance to kick.

You said that if Worst is gone, then Lider would be the kicker. That is essentially saying that you believe Worst would be the no. 1 kicker. Looking at FG percentage inside the 40 is not cherry-picking. Inside the 40 percentage and reliability is way more important than percentage outside the 40. Greenberg is apparently making FG's from 50-55 in workouts. His kickoffs are going about 65, but he needs to develop more consistently and height. You are welcome to your opinion, but you don't seem to have much of a basis for it.

The current kicker had a 67 yard FG in high school.

From what I saw in spring ball, Greenberg was the better kicker of the 3. All still needed to vastly improve, but that's what I saw. Also I recall multiple comments from Coach Delaney that Greenberg was the most accurate in camp overall.

I think for Greenberg needing to work on strength when kicking fieldgoals is the big thing, but I like that he's the most accurate at this point. I'd take a 70%+ probability of a fieldgoal being made within 40 yards any day.

Again, PR, you're cherry picking. I never said he was the clear-cut no. 1. Yes, I personally believed he was the best option, but I saw the competition and truly believe it was between him and Lider.

How can you state that I am the one who has no basis? You are the one saying Greenberg came out of spring as the no. 1. Where has that been stated? I believe that Lider is still the better option (which is saying something), but Delaney has never officially announced Greenberg as the no. 1. Greenberg was 2/3 on field goals his senior year in high school, with a long of 35 yards, and has kicked one field goal here at Montana. Since you judge Worst off of game play and Greenberg has essentially none in the past 3 years, what is your basis?

I love that Greenberg is grinding it out here, but if I go straight off talent right now, I just don't see it. For the betterment of the team though, I hope I'm wrong.
