Montana's QB situation

I know this is a Britt thread but this post had me thinking. If I was Bergen I'd maybe be the most frustrated player on the Griz roster this season. The kid is an absolute stud and I'm still mad we had him and lost him. Just seemed like he should have gotten WAY more touches than he did throughout the season.

Of course this is just an outsiders point of view.... :o

31 touches in 11 games. Less than 3 touches/game. 14 rushing attempts. 17 passes caught.
22 punt returns and 4 KO returns.

Criminal, really.

Couple more criminal numbers:
Cole Grossman: 28 touches
Malik Flowers: 34 receptions, 20 kick returns

Almost 1000 offensive plays and less than 10% COMBINED went to to biggest three playmakers on the team.

The biggest playmaker by far was JOHNSON. I would give the ball tun RB's not receivers. Roberts was a top playmaker.

Wow. I didn't see enough of your games to realize it was THAT bad for Bergen. 31 touches is honestly horrendous. I would love to hear how anyone could possibly justify that.

As an opponent, I guess I'm fine with it! ;)

But man that must be frustrating for him.

How many touches would you give a receiver who missed time with an injury and played some games with what looked like a soft cast on his thumb?

maybe the better question, counselor, is how many would you give a HEALTHY receiver who was the offensive MVP the year before? Because he had just 15 before he got injured.

Not that many. And he wasn't healthy half of the season. He played rb the previous year. I'd give the ball to Johnson, the rb's and Roberts.

Now, you answer the question.

It depends.

If I thought he was healthy enough to play, (if he wasn't I wouldn't have him on the field at all) and I thought he was our best playmaker, and I thought our offense was really struggling.....I'd give him WAY more than 3 touches a game.

Johnson was the best playmaker by far. A player with soft cast can run better than he can catch. He got touches on punt and KO returns too. He had 26 returns. And more fair catches.

Why did they play him at QB against CalPoly if he was so injured? Incompetence?

So couldn't he have gotten his touches other ways besides catching? Like tons of coaches do with their best athletes? Or like he did the season prior? :?

Nope. his prior season was mainly runs. 118. some receiving. 22. Some returns. He missed 2 full games.

Why didn't the Cats give Ifanse more touches? At least, Bergen isn't leaving like I. The care of your own house.

Yikes. Where to start.

I said couldn't he have gotten touches OTHER ways besides catching. I assume you'd know that running is a good way to get touches other than passing. He proved he was ok in that role the year prior correct? Is there nothing that could be done to get him more than 3 touches a game? That seems scary to me.

I thought Ifanse got a good amount of carries in his only three games of action this year. Don't mind him leaving. Guessing he'll test his luck in FBS but who knows. Nothing bad to say about the kid. He was incredible.

I'm not allowed to take care of my own house.

Our regular running backs are better. They weren’t available last year. Again, he was hurt. I think people who talk touches in college football are clueless. He had way more than 3 touches per game.

Yes, incompetence. Same reason Bobby went hard after the head hunter player that tried to kill one of the griz players. Not sure why PR isn't disgusted with Bobby about that.

Was he injured against CP?

Actually, was injured so bad at Weber that he didn't see the field again after the injury and didn't play a snap the game after Calpoly because he was so injured.

When I read hoops' posts, all I hear in my head is the teacher from Charlie Brown… Anyone else?

He was for a short time, griz offered, he decided to stay at sac st.

On the Bergen note, he wasn't getting enough touches even when he was healthy. Johnson was hit or miss all season, definitely not the best playmaker. Bergen, Grossman, and Flowers all deserved a hell of a lot more touches. We wasted Flowers career here. He should have been a leading receiver every year. When he was given chances he balled. He's a much better receiver than Roberts. Imo Roberts should of put on more muscle n converted to TE. Flowers, Fontes, and Bergen should have been the starting receivers. And we should have used a lot of 2 te sets with Grossman and Roberts. That would have been dynamic. We should have ran numerous jet sweeps a game with Bergen and Flowers as well. Rosey was about as creative as a turkey in the rain.
