Montana's QB situation

    it took all of them by surprise. Funny shit here. Moved him to backup knowing he was gone two weeks later.

They moved him to backup out of desperation for this season, not for the long-term. Britt leaving took none of the coaches by surprise.
They moved him to backup because he was better than Brown, far better.

He was far better than Brown at the start of the year. The coaches didn't move him in an attempt to keep him because they had no clue that he was leaving.

The Griz coaches had no expectations that Britt would leave. While I have no clue what the coaches projected for Britt going into next season, I know for a fact that they had no knowledge that he was leaving. He was told that he would be the starting QB in the SEMO game, because Johnson was supposedly injured and out for that game. But the coaches decided to start Johnson at the last minute, and that is the moment that was the final straw which caused Britt to leave. Britt was not happy about being told he would start, and then they started Johnson instead.
Save the posts slamming these comments. It is 100% true, and I stated it right after the SEMO game.

I call BS on this post.

Well, SOMEBODY is lying. A poster on here has stated Britt made his intentions known after the Weber game. Now someone is saying it wasn’t until he was rebuffed before the SEMO game.

The seed was planted after the Weber game. He was told he would get to play and he took a lot snaps during the week. He was optimistic and his parents flew up to the game. Only for him to not get a single snap in that game but yet Brown went in. This is where the plan to leave started.

He can't keep track of his lies

Cute, your mommy showed you how to use emojis. I know exactly who your old ass is based solely on that now. What’s that now, 7 screen names you’re working with?

They made him the back up QB a number of weeks before you claim. It wasn’t right before the Bison game and it wasn’t even right before the cats game.

Question: do you think they moved him partly in an attempt to keep him from deciding to leave?

I don’t think so. I think they FINALLY saw (that’s a whole other topic) that Britt was a more viable option and gave them better chance at winning. I think it was already too late (in Britts mind) at that point as he already knew he was the better option. Only Britt could answer but my gut is that he knew he was gone when they started going to Brown early on.

When they played Bergen in the Wildcat against CP it was over.

I know this is a Britt thread but this post had me thinking. If I was Bergen I'd maybe be the most frustrated player on the Griz roster this season. The kid is an absolute stud and I'm still mad we had him and lost him. Just seemed like he should have gotten WAY more touches than he did throughout the season.

Of course this is just an outsiders point of view.... :o

I agree with this. Bergen should be furious. He was hands down the most talented athlete on the offensive side of the football for the last 2 years. He saved our asses in the rb game and absolutely got put on the back burner this year. That was ridiculous. Give that kid 30 touches a game.

He also hurt or broke his thumb in the SS game. At practice the next week, he did not participate in throwing-catching drills. I was at practice.

Bergen was better and sharper at the running plays than Britt. I was at practice before Weber game. I was at practice that week.

I went to practice that week. Brown, Britt and Bergen got the QB reps. Johnson was there, but took no reps. Didn't participate in drills. Concussion protocol. Brown and Britt were practicing hard.

31 touches in 11 games. Less than 3 touches/game. 14 rushing attempts. 17 passes caught.
22 punt returns and 4 KO returns.

Criminal, really.

Couple more criminal numbers:
Cole Grossman: 28 touches
Malik Flowers: 34 receptions, 20 kick returns

Almost 1000 offensive plays and less than 10% COMBINED went to to biggest three playmakers on the team.

Do you mean against Weber?

Wow. I didn't see enough of your games to realize it was THAT bad for Bergen. 31 touches is honestly horrendous. I would love to hear how anyone could possibly justify that.

As an opponent, I guess I'm fine with it! ;)

But man that must be frustrating for him.

How many touches would you give a receiver who missed time with an injury and played some games with what looked like a soft cast on his thumb?

you know what's even more criminal? 13 of Malik's 34 receptions came in THE LAST THREE GAMES. In other words, in the first 10 games he had just 21 receptions.

And Junior Bergen (who unbelievably DIDN'T TOUCH THE BALL against MSU) caught just TWO passes in the last 3 games combined.
