Montana vs PSU

Okay well...

I just looked at SUU's noncon schedule. They have wins over Carroll of Montana (who I have heard of) by 10, and San Diego Christian (who I have not heard of) by 30. They lost by 11 to someone named Green Bay Phoenix, who is evidently a D1 program in Horizon League. Huh. They also lost to Cal State Fullerton by 43. That doesn't suggest quality.

Yes, any W is a good W.

Yeah, weebs puts up 95 on UND and wins by 32. Welcome to the Big Sky, NoDak.

ISU beating up on UNC was the surpise of the day for me. Southern Utah looks as though they could be a force to be reckoned with at 3-0 after a road beat down of NAU.

A 1 point win is much better than any loss any day

Alot of the noise lies in the fact that many of the loud folks in the 60s are not able to stand and yell for an extended period of time. They need young blood in there to fire up the crowd.

Corrected that for ya. :o
You know what wyogrizfan. You are right, the youth need to make it happen. It needs to be a "trend" on the UM campus to support all Griz sports teams?? If they can come up with a "trend"where it is somehow cool to support B-Ball they will?? 70's and 80's the TREND was B-Ball, and the 90"s to the present are football. Why cant they just make it trendy to support Griz athletics and party hardy at the same time??? (Now the one thing I have for you wyogrizfan. I wonder why during football season all these SilverTips can stand, cuss, and yell in the bitter cold, but in the warm confines of Dalberg, OUR COACH HAS TO GET THE F@##ing crowd involved??) Not on you wyogrizfan, but just sayin?? :thumb:

Did anyone else notice Tinks PLEADING with the crowd to get up and make some noise on a key defensive possession with about 2:30 to go??

Nuthin. No noise. Nobody stood. Nuthin.

C'mon Missoula. I know you're good, knowledgable sports fans. Make some freakin' noise. College basketball isn't that hard to figure out.

edit: Keena, glad you noticed it as well. That was just sad. And as a guy who was a student in the 80s, rather painful to watch.
Pleading? Come on...Ya it would be nice if more poeple showed up but as a person who does not miss a game, it does get a little old hearing poeple who live 500 miles away dissing on the people who go to the games....Like you i wish the crowd was more involved but tinks waves his arms every game! He did it during the weebs games last year aswell when the crowd was most definatly involved.... I hope im not comming off as a dick head here cuz thats not what im after at all...tonight was the first game i have been too where i had to be quiet, cuz my little boy fell asleep on my lap....so i take some of the blame i guess lol...ill shut up now.

becker I like what you say. Its actualy a good honest response from a lucky fan that can be there every game. Thank You. I personally have a tough time watching these "on average, 3400 people show up sitting on their hands" yes I know we are only going to be second to Weber St for ever in B-ball attendance? They own us and take as much pride in doing it as our football program does in football! But you must ask yourselves, Missoula is a small town, what else goes on besides high school sports and the griz. Why can we get 26,000 for any given football game, but we cant get even 7,000 for B-ball? Kinda a small town mentality huh?

I honestly dont have an answer for that...I have wondered my self....today when walking to the game..I saw inside somebodys window a block away from campus, they were playing call of duty...I got instanly pissed and started ranting to my brother, how those mother fuckers should get off their damn couch and come watch the game! Like i said i dont have an answer why we cant fill it up, and i guess i shouldnt take it personally when u call the "crowd" dead beats, cuz if you saw me you would think i was insane most of the time haha. I have tried myself to get people to the games, just seems there is very little interest and it pisses me off......but you can be rest assured that game in and game out, ill be 1 of 22 people in section 211 (exception to the cats game and weber game it will be more full) and my bro and i will rival anybody for the loudest in the arena! I wish i coudl get more people in that arena, but till i can i guess i can only do my part once im in the door

Yes becker, Ive been in the house. I always bring the noise! I am a Griz fan that must reside in the Big 12 region, and it is very good for football, b-ball, and pro sports for that matter!!!! So I ask you so kindly becker, (who to be honest, I respect as a poster) have you been to Norman, Stillwater, or Fayetteville and brought the noise, while wearing Montana Grizzly Apperel, and telling everyone you meet how good our B-ball and our 1-aa football team is? I say 1-aa because if you ever leave the state knowbody else knows what we are talking about? I know Griz fans can do better?? Pack the house, and get loud kids!

Great response becker! I get it. Thats why I make the comments I do. Back in my day it was TECMO SuperBowl, but we still made time to party, play ball, and watch ball! Im sorry if we may have offended some of the actual good fans, and it was a great sign that we got 3900 in the seats tonight without the kids back. Hopefully the fans were happy enough to come back for more???

It's ridiculous. My family an I are always without exception D loud as we can be and it's pretty frustrating watching people just not care. I don't get why the students that go even show up if they don't care enough to make a little noise. If you don't care about the game, then why are you even there?

Nothing but respect becker, and most importantly, thank you for your service! I just dont see why there are not more local fans like yourself? There is nothing else to do, but have a good time at b-ball and continue the party on down to the local merchants? Hell our pregame party was a couple cases of Milkwakees Best, Grilled dogs and Burgers, and Tecmo Bowl until game time! And then ????? always a good time! Come on Missoula and the kids in class coming back?? Lets give Webers dominance a little run for their money?? :thumb:

Cherry played fairly well, except for several bad shots and a couple too many turnovers (he had 5 in this game; 2 in WSU game). He controlled the game well when he was in the game, drove and dished, had 7 assists (9 against WSU), defended well as always. He was 9-11 from the line (8-10 against WSU). This came from driving to the hoop.

PSU made its surge in the second half when Cherry was on the bench for several minutes.

Cherry is not getting in the way of Jamar. Jamar was getting in the way of himself, especially in the first half, and then had a much better second half.

Martin was helpful on defense later in the game, after PSU started to hurt us in the middle. Tinkle rotated Martin and Weisner on defense/offense later in the game. Don't know why Coleman didn't play more, after his very nice game against WSU.

Ward played fairly well, but had some trouble with the size of PSU. Didn't shoot quite as well as he usually does. It's so too bad that he's not several inches taller, or doesn't have bigger springs. Gregory is really coming along. Appears to be a great free throw shooter (100% in conf play, and second overall at 89%/25-28). I like DeShields too. Cherry is 22-28 at the line, for 79%. In conf play, Cherry is 2nd in assists, one behind the leader.

I am going to have to agree wit you on this one PR. Will is not "getting in the way" of Jamar, i dont know where that person saw that. Will forced the issue a few times, but overall i liked his aggression lastnight. He drove, created easy buckets for team mates and got to the free throw line. He will continue to improve adn doesnt need to score 20ppg to be a key component to the griz winning another BSC championship. So far i like his progression and would like some examples from who ever said that he is getting in jamars way. Looks like our offense runs quite well when will is at the helm.

I agree with both PR and Becker. I thought Jamar's problems (such as they were) were generally self-created. Will seemed to be mostly in charge; on several occasions, I saw him get in someone's face after a call or a play -- that's what your team leader does. As one of you said, the leader doesn't have to score 20 ppg to be the leader.
As for the previous comments on the crowd and its participation or lack thereof: it's true, the people sitting around us rarely cheered or stood up -- you can't make them, you just have to be glad they are there. Re the attendance numbers, I totally understand them. Although we have been season ticket holders for football for 25+ years, we go to only occasional basketball games, simply because we are not huge basketball fans. I'm sorry but, for us, for whatever reasons, just aren't interested in basketball like we are in football. That does NOT make us bad people or bad fans.

I don't see Will getting in anyone's way either. As I mentioned earlier, it is nice to see him distributing more. The only thing I don't get and is frustrating, why is he fading on open shots? There is never a need to fade back or to either side when shooting a perimeter shot. The only way a fade away shot should ever be used is in the paint, when it is needed. Watch the games again in BSTV, his shot is not even close when he fades. Yet when he squares up, as taught, his shots are actually pretty good.

It really does look to me, he is trying too hard to score. I wonder if he is trying to show the NBA too much, and competing with Lillard every game? If I were one of his coaches, I would tell him to just be himself, and there is no need for some of the shots he is throwing up. His defense, intensity, and scoring when needed has got him to this point. He needs to keep doing those things, and create for his teammates, which he has improved on a lot. Will, seriously, you don't need to be throwing up the crap shots you have been, just square up and let it rip!!!!!

I agree with the fade aways. I dont really think he is trying to show the NBA special things...i think he might just be rushing..seeing he has a little space and trying to score. I think when he sees this on film it will be corrected. Maybe he was slightly over confident after hitting his first 3 pointer....All we can do is speculate but its easy to see Will wants to help the team and wants to win. I love his intensity...My fav point in that game was he made a sick drive and pass to matty ward for an EASY lay up...and he was doing his screaming chest flex ( haha i dont know what the hell to call it)..it was awesoem to see that Will Cherry FIRE!

Is it wrong to be disappointed with a 7 point conference win?

That just didn't feel...satsifying.

This game is yet another example to support my feelings that this UM team is not very good. We should beat PSU by 20+ at home. Let's face facts, the Big Sky sucks, and we still have trouble putting anyone away. Jamar is a huge disappointment to me this season. He should be averaging 17-20 points a game. Last season everyone was talking an NBA future for him, but can can not even dominate in the weak Big Sky.
