MSU offered him a full ride and has been pushing hard to get him all along. Last year Ash along with some other cat coaches just happened to go view the Billings Central weight room when Holden and some other athletes were working out. While they didn't speak with him there they seemed to linger quite awhile to view such a modest room. No doubt the entire thing was just a coincidence. They were probably looking for ideas for a new MSU facility. ;)

The coaching uncertainty encourages kids to keep their options open. That is natural and anything is possible. Yet if he isn't on a full ride to the Pac 12, I'm confident he will be a Grizzly. :ugeek:

Ferriter (Butte Central) to MSU

The other FCS Butte kid (Butte High) was on the CBS tv news out of Bozeman a few nights ago. Dalton Daum said that he isn't going to play basketball, instead he is going to focus just on track (getting out of the blocks faster, getting stronger and faster). He wants to go after the 100M record. I don't think he's going to get it, Chris Wilson CMR was a beast! He also said msu is wanting him to play as a true freshman.

I hope the Glacier LB picks MONTANA :!:  Holden Ryan too :!: 8-)

Dalton gotta put in more off season work for track hes a little banged up , his 10.66 last yr was with a big wind behind him , skool record i believe is by hanley 10.67 possibly , i see daum's best time of this year being 10.77 to 10.8 flat(maybe lower with intense off season )..needs to stay low at start & finish stronger like to see him about 17o to 175lbs kinda on the slim side, focus on keepin his good flexibility, not too much heavy lifting until track is over, he should win 100&200 again, hope he has the drive for off season workouts, was a problem in the past..hope his coaches r on him & pushing him hard, not playing bball ii think is good for him will keep him fresh & injury free, if he increases upper body strength i could also see him winning the 400 tooo. 3 state titles for him is a possibility, state records do have to be done at state event

Where is this info coming from? This has been been posted a few times, but not one response to how or who the info is coming from. Just curious. I hope he does.

As previously posted, it is not a done deal but there is an excellent chance he will be a Montana Grizzly. Not playing games but don't think it would be appropriate to post just how I have this information. All I will say is, you would be pleased if I told you the source. Hopefully a final decision will be made soon. Let's just leave it at that.

WR/RET Dalton Daum chose the cats over the Griz because the cats ran a spread offense vs the Griz running the pro-style offense. And because the cats offered a full scholarship, versus the Griz offering a half scholarship due to the NCAA scholarship restrictions placed on them.

One would think that the new sheriff in town (Stiff), with it's priority on the passing game, would place more emphasis on record setting WRs than the old regime did.

We can all hope coach Stiff goes after Daum, HARD :!:

Let's not forget that Daum was 5 TIMES Class AA ALL-STATE in football his senior year ALONE! Not counting his junior and sophomore years in football.

And this gem  Against Glacier HS (one of the very best teams in the state the past few years), Daum as a junior, set a state record with 20 catches and just missed another state mark with 286 yards receiving.

And because he wants to pursue an engineering degree. :|

Now that the coaching question is resolved I hope Stitt does make another run at convincing Dalton Daum to reconsider. It's doubtful he'll change his mind but it is certainly worth a try.

Not true, AZGrizFan. He wants to study business or some sort of sports medicine.

This is copied from the recruiting battle thread, just to be crystal clear on why Daum chose msu over Montana:

And I agree with Montana37--let's get a few more Montana boys !!!

If anyone asked me--ain't going to happen, but play along--I would put some effort into flipping Daum now that we have the football offensive equivalent of Napoleon as our head coach as footballs starting next year will be flying around WA-GRIZ faster than twinkies !!!

Daum chose msu for two main reasons:

1) He feels Montana State’s up-tempo spread offensive attack more suits his style. The Bulldogs have run a variation of the spread all four years Daum has been on varsity.

“That was the key point over Montana because as of now, they are running a pro-style offense,” Daum said. “Our offense is similar to the ‘Cats offense. We run the same offense, just different concepts. The alignments are the same. I think I’ll transition really well knowing how a spread offense works playing in it the last four years.

“I think the ‘Cats’ offense is a way better fit for me. I mean, they are putting up over 40 points per game. They run a spread offense, which I feel like my speed would fit in well, the type of player I would fit in well.”

2) msu offered a full scholarship versus Montana offering a 1/2 scholarship, due to NCAA scholarship restrictions they are under for one more year.

“I just want to thank the Bobcats for being the only school who believed in me enough to offer me a full scholarship,” Daum said.

im glad to see him training instead of playing bball, think he should make good conditioning gains for track& speed gains from now until track seas starts.. after tht potentially bulk up to 180lbs to 185 ... could b an impact player right away

I just talked to Andrew Grinde's mom today and she said that the GRIZ are the only ones that have not talked to him

Translation....never mind.

Fellas,
Recruiting is not a A+B=C principle.

IE just because he is good in High school does not mean he fits the coaching phylosophy of the coaches. The Grinde kid is a very good "grinder", but he not going to run away from College Linebackers. When he faced a very good HS defense Glacier, the best D in AA, he had his worst games. Does that mean he cannot play in college? Only time will tell. And yes, there are times (goalline & short yardage) that you need a kid like Grinde.

Also, ask yourself if he fit the Griz O this year? or does he have a place in an up tempo Oregon style O (Stitt)?

An other factor, Early on the Griz got a verbal from a VERY GOOD RB from San Diego. He since retracted the verbal and then got hurt. As a recruiter, once you have your guy, it limits schollies to other players of the same position.

Finally, Grinde is a Junior. Some coaches dont recruit instate kids until thier Senior year.

Trust me if Coach Stitt and the UM coaches think he can contribute at UM he will be contacted... but if not then they have made the decision that he is not what they need in a RB.

So to restate, Recruiting has many factors, and they all play in who the Griz try to recruit, its not a A=B=C math formula.
