This why Bobby Hauck is a risky hire for UM, or at the very least a polarizing hire. Fair or not, this article represents Bobby Hauck to a lot of Missoulians that are not football fans. We, as football fans, follow the team and follow players after these events occur. The vast majority of Montanans and alumni likely only read the headlines and form opinions based a snap judgment. The risk you run is alienating a lot of residents and alumni who are not football fans and DO get their news from the Missoulian.
I fear that a Hauck hire could be a PR disaster for UM at a critical moment in its history. It sounds like it’s as good as done, so I hope I’m wrong...but it could be bumpy ride.
Just not Missoulians, but perspective students as well, but you are dead on. My guess is this is part of the delay. Not to mention, the last time I saw the big boosters this involved in picking the new coach, we got Gene Carlson.
That perception is not correct and is not based on the facts. Even the story had multiple mistakes and omissions. If it in fact this is the perception of some people, then it is in UM's best interests to work to correct the facts and the (incorrect) perception and set the record straight.
Much of the perception problem was created by biased stories, some with incorrect information, pushed by the media, including the Missoulian, in my view. Some of them were so biased and had such an agenda, that they were wiling and able to create false perception, which was not consistent with the facts. Why should the Missoulian be allowed to publish biased and incorrect information that hurts the "perception" of the university.
I don't think this issue is causing "the delay". And, there really isn't any delay, to my knowledge. The process is proceeding.
In work and in life, I have found it very important to work to set records straight and to not allow incorrect information and incorrect perceptions to dictate or influence what people, companies, clients, universities, etc. do. It is important to stand up for what is right.
