I am not convinced that Hauck is the preferred candidate for head coach, but this piece is a clear hatchet job. It demonstrates why the Missoulian (and other Lee newspapers) do not deserve patronage in any respect.
We must remember that Ms. Florio returned to the Missoulian last year as city editor. I cancelled my subscription to the Missoulian in 2012 when this article appeared on the front page above the fold:

I don't blame Ms. Florio for being sensitive to attacks on eGriz, but it did not deserve front-page treatment in the Missoulian. She had taken a stand in print against certain Griz players and the team. Sometimes you are attacked when you take a strong, public stand. But that does not mean you should validate the crudeness of message board Neanderthals on the front page of a newspaper. Ms. Florio demonstrated poor judgment in her 2012 article about eGriz. It appeared to be an unfair attack on this message board, based upon selective treatment of some posters who had exhibited poor taste in attacking her. Sounds more like a grudge than reporting.
Ms. Florio's approach seems to permeate Mr. Kato's article today, perhaps because of Ms. Florio's role as city editor, though the specific target is different. It's a grudge, not news. Mr. Kato's article seeks to validate unfair attacks on Hauck, who left UM after the 2009 season. Hauck was not perfect, but he cannot be fairly criticized for failing to regulate behavior of athletes after he left for UNLV. The reference to comments by Pat Williams is beyond the pale.
I suggest boycotting the Missoulian and other Lee newspapers. And let advertisers in those papers know that you don't appreciate sensationalist hatchet jobs. It may not make a difference, but it might, and it feels good to let the purveyors of crap know we don't like this shit.
