You are right. It would have been awful for him to play it a little flatter and not so sharp, and hold it to a 10 yd gain instead of a 60+ yd gain. So much for schematics....

Box, he was playing the 3d safety position as a linebacker. Jeez, look where he is lined up at start of play. You, of all people, would seem to know. He is not a safety in this line up.

He did not take a bad angle.

You are wrong PR, he was the deep safety all by his lonesome.

Looks like McGinnis is number 2 behind both Hauck and Robertson for this weeks game so he should be getting plenty of playing time on Saturday.

Also, for you guy's complaining about the angle he took on this play it looks to me he was right where he was supposed to be. For what ever reason the cornerback Walker got caught way inside on the play and gave the Oregon running back the outside lane.

..armed chair QB's are complaining about his angle..but seeing him on the field with his size, speed
and athleticism is what impressed me..IMO.hes got more 'upside' than any safety out there..he also
could be moved to LB..there are not many players who could chase down a Oregon Duck RB in full
sprint..esp. a FCS guy...its going to be interesting to see where he ends up..

Despite what seems like years of speedy backs, this Oregon team doesn't have a back with speed like LaMichael James, Kenyon Barner or DeAnthony Thomas had. The guy McGinnis chased down, Sean Dollars, is a 4.78 40 guy, and his top-end speed was the major criticism on him coming out of high school. He's by no means slow, but he's far from a burner. If you lined him up on the goal line with McGinnis, Sulser, and Flowers he probably takes 4th place in a 100 yd sprint. That said, I think the pursuit angle was good and he closed the gap very quickly before making the tackle.

But did you play the game?

Stop the video when the corner is struggling to get back outside. It is clear that he is fitting in the gap where he expects the RB to cut up. What do you have against mcginnis? You have to be blind to not see this or not understand football.

who knows..instead of saying the kid has the attributes to become a great player..weird!

Exactly. People are fired up about the kid making a great hustle play. Bobby said something about freshman being out of position, which McGinnis isn't, and this dude is just insistent that he took a horrible angle. I don't get it.

If you know Box’s history of never saying anything positive about the Griz, and never saying anything negative about EWU, it should make more sense.

McGinnis did a stutter step watching the play develop and then headed immediately towards the runner at that moment, oregon had players out to block for the run so McGinnis had to run around the block on Walker to attack the runner. oregon offense did what they were supposed to and our linebacker out ran their BCS running back. thank you McGinnis, excellent play bro, you gave Griz fans something more to look forward to, case closed.

I have absolutely nothing against him. But if you look further, it was a full blitz from the backers...I don't know, but the deep safety probably has some type of responsibility other than shooting that gap and then chasing the guy for 60 yards...maybe like keeping the play in front of him.

I don't even personally know the kid or his family. I have never said he doesn't have the attributes to be a great player, but keeping reading stuff into it.

Why are you guys being so obtuse with this angle business? You are all right. I guess if you want 17 pages, we need to discuss how number 16 is strait fast. We had limited acute injuries. And complete buy-in. So rejoice, Griz nation, Hauckamania will reflex.

Seriously, if he took such a great angle, why was he chasing for 60 yards when he had all the deep responsibility.

Seriously, you call out 1 poor decision and all of a sudden people accuse you of having a personal vendetta or claiming you called him a terrible player of which neither is accurate. Several people have a whole lotta sand in their reginas.

But you guys got me, he played it perfectly. Instead of staying over the top and limiting the run, we got to see him go underneath and display his speed chasing the guy for 60 yards. Congrats.

What a total douche. Seriously, the kid made a bad read and will learn from it. Sorry I pointed it out. I hope he balls out, and I agree he is a super athletic kid, but take a eff'n chill pill.

He’d be fair game if he wasn’t from Montana. And you KNOW that’s true.

No he is not. He was commenting on the play where McGinnis made the TD saving tackle. He was referring to other players making a mistake which was what made it necessary for McGinnis to make the play if I'm correct.

Missoula223 is correct in my opinion. Bobby specifically referred to a Freshman mistake and I think he was referring to Walker who didn't stay home. McGinnis effort covered up the CB's mistake. Unfortunately it was 62 yards downfield.

By the way, I think Walker will become an outstanding corner in his career here and eventually become an All-Conference corner.

Mamula's assignment here is to set the edge.
https://youtu.be/uBIJtTEd2WU?t=479

I looked @ the play initially from ground level. Thanks for posting. Mamula did get hooked, Walker got blocked (I’d say he was as home as he should/could be given an RPO) & 14 ran around the Walker block & up the sideline. McGinnis is a soph so I missed on the criticism & while the effort was great, the initial angle was awful, and it was his foot speed that saved him & the TD. He might have shaved a yard or two off the gain if he had compensated earlier.

No, the corner made the mistake. He got hooked and blocked inside. His responsibility is to stay outside and force the play inside to the safety and backers. McGinnis' angle was fine. If the corner keeps outside leverage and forces the play inside, McGinnis makes the tackle for a short gain.

Nope, you are wrong. Safeties don't have "deep" coverage against a run. Jeez, learn the game. McGinnis appears to have done just what he was supposed to do. The corner made the mistake and let the play get outside of him.
