Ok I took out week 1, week 2, kept Utah Tech because McDowell played more, and took out NAU. This also makes the cats and gris at 12 games in these stats which makes them more comparable
Gris: 2262 yards, 528 attempts, 4.28 average, 26 td. Still rushing the ball more than any other team and the average only went up .5 with McDowell, interesting. Still very low on yards compared to many top teams.
The cats: 3492 yards, 480 attempts, 7.28 average, 41 td. I think we all see a huge difference.
This Difference can’t be explained just by “tougher playoff teams as let’s not act like the gris’ first two weren’t easy games. Either lets agree that the cats have a better rushing o-line or better running backs… both which I think apply here. I would love to see how you can disagree with the stats.

Please read what you post. If they are not starters, they are backups. Doesn’t matter why they aren’t starting. Mutually exclusive.

Of course it’s crazy; it’s bubcatz logic. Returning backups are always better than the prior year’s starters even if the backups haven’t yet proven that they can walk again.

They aren’t starting over last year’s starters. They are filling in for the transfers. Sain is a 5th year player who has TONS of starts and Reed was a top 25 OL according to HERO Sports in 22. These guys are very good and will easily fill in for the transfers. Just like how the gris transfers will fill in for the grads. Yes we could see rust but heck I haven’t ridden a bike in forever and guarantee I still got it.
You're making a lot of assumptions that could come back to bite you in the butt. Sometimes previously injured players take the field and prove that they are back to their former selves, sometimes they never return to their former glory. Time will tell.

Furman and DE were 7 and 10 in final polls. Those weren’t easy games.
You would need to back out losses from sacks. Those aren’t rushes. Mellott is mobile and avoids sacks.
It’s not just lines and running backs. It’s also scheme and Mellott, as well as competition.
Cats have very good running scheme and the speed and elusiveness of Mellott. Chambers was very good runner and nice enough speed. Cats have good run scheme and it is a bit different and hard to defend. Teams are figuring out how to defend it as the years go on. Also see T. Hauck defense.
Cats had good run blocking o-line and TE’s. Probably still do. Cats have good rb and some backups. Griz rb’s are better and deeper, by the way. Cats had better running qb’s and better qb (even though he can’t pass well much of the time).
Cats’ o-line is on small side. That’s a fact, not a comment on anything else. I assume they are mobile but don’t know.
Not having Chambers as co-qb and injury backup is likely going to impact Cats.
Griz have T. Hauck and Cooper. Great schemes and terrific coaches. Cooper’s about 11 year kid is a good athlete and can really sling the ball. He and a buddy play in a little park by my house. Fun kids.

Gris:
#35 in team sacks at 2.33 per game
#3 in 3rd down defense at .292
#4 in interceptions at 17
Outside 50 in passing yards allowed
#15 rushing defense
#5 in scoring defense
#4 in team passing efficiency defense
#46 in TFL
#18 in total defense
Cats:
#1 in team sacks at 3.42 per game
#24 in 3rd down defense at .338
#29 in interceptions at 11
#37 in passing yards allowed

Cats seem to have the better DL as they have more sacks and tfl but the gris have a stronger overall defense with a strong secondary. I think cats d-line should be very similar although Valdez left we got Eckert from washington st. I am not super knowledgeable about gris graduates on defense but I know they lost some studs but did well in getting lots of transfers. I would expect the gris to have a little better defense this year assuming that the transfers pan out.

Gris rbs are better and deeper???? I agreed with nearly everything until that.
Jared White (8.1 avg), Julius Davis (6.9 avg) (Wisconsin transfer), and Scottre Humphrey (8.0 avg), Elijah Elliott (8.0 avg), and Adam Jones (17.3 avg on 3 carries) make the deepest and best rbs in FCS. They are phenomenal.
Gilman (5.0 avg) and Ostmo (5.0 avg) got their asses kicked in the playoffs against NDSU and SDSU where they had one run over 10 yards. Harris hasn’t gotten enough consistent time I believe to show what he can do and the transfer from Arizona I know nothing about. Gilman has looked good but man after those final games in the playoffs I have serious questions around him and similar for Ostmo although Gilman has a way higher ceiling.

Both teams have elite RB’s. The reason Gillman looked different the last few games of the season was due to injury, and one of the goals this season is to split carries more. 190+ carries for Gillman is a bit too much for wear/tear.

I never heard any official injuries but I don’t doubt that he was beat up. Any idea of whos the top 3? Gilman, Ostmo, Arizona transfer? If the o-line stays healthy and the qb can perform this could be a very strong offense.

Griz running backs are better. You are looking only at stats. The Cat rb's have a very good running scheme, have had 1 great qb runner and 1 very good qb runner (who are much more dangerous than the rb's and D's have to first stop the qb run), and a good run-blocking o-line.
The Griz rb's would average higher than the Cat rb's in that scheme. The Cat rb's would struggle in the Griz balanced offense. Yes, the Griz couldn't run much in last games. The Cat rb's would have done worse.
I judge running backs on how they run, how they hit holes, how they break tackles, how they get extra yards, how they avoid tackles, their quickness and speed, their size and strength, their pass-catching abilities, and their pass and other blocking abilities. Not just stats. People like you who focus only on stats show that they never played the game, don't understand the game, and can't properly analyze the game.
The Griz have several terrific running backs, including Harris. What's in front of him is so good that he's apparently been moved to slot receiver. Another good rb is playing special teams and looking at other positions, like lb. A red-shirting frosh who some said was the best rb recruit in modern times, decided to leave because there was so much in front of him.
You don't understand the game and are delusional. Your comments on the running backs clearly reveal that.
