Knight would have had a big night too, if he hadn't gotten hurt. Too bad. It was nice to see Ostmo kick ass. The Griz have bunch of good rb's.
Bok_Choi said:Kobezoey said:Knight’s size is just his natural size. He was about 195lbs when he arrived and now he is closer to 225lbs. Natural growth over the past 3 years. He is 6’1”. . .a big kid but not fat. He is a gym rat and very strong, and extremely flexible, and the fastest RB on the team. His skill level and game is every bit as good as what it was. He has just been asked to run up the middle constantly this year. His carries have been very limited in most games, as well. Stop seeing the big kid he is and thinking he is reinventing himself. He is just doing all he can to come back from quite a serious injury. He has done a remarkable job of coming back and contributing.
He is still coming back, in fact. Really not sure why you would have anything derogatory to say about a kid that is making a major return to the field. Guys like Marcus are what it is all about. Yes, he looks different with his natural growth as a young man. He is bigger, faster and stronger. Expect to continue to see great things from him. He is a rare talent that does not come along very often.
My point is, and will continue to be that if you're an o-lineman, adding 25-30 lbs over a couple of years is the norm., until you have the weight/strenght to do what's expected - most of them aren't that big naturally in HS. Adding that kind of weight as a running back, in a similar time frame, is a huge difference and hardly natural. He was all that and a bag of chips before, electric - a kid who could get a tough yard by lowering his shoulder and the next play, he's freeze the guy and run by him. Ostmo, Janacaro and Childs have the battering ram running back thing covered. That's the style they normally run with. None of them could do what Knight did, and that's no slam on them - they're doing what they do very well. I get he's still 'coming back." And we can disagree on the fastest back - I heard Hauck say it was Ostmo on the coaches show last year and that was prior to Gilman arriving.

Fair enough and good explanation. If you have met Knight’s family and knew Marcus’ story, you would be a little more clear on the fact that he is natural. Some people have good genetics. I believe Knight is still that guy who can do all you described. He has in flashes this year. He has simply not been utilized that way yet this year. Not sure why. And for the fastest back thing, I saw the same Hauck comment. He was incorrect. Marcus consistently clocks as the fastest RB on the team whenever they do those things in training. Not worth arguing that one, but he is easily the fastest. Funny part of this is that Knight has that electric ability yet can do the battering ram thing well too. Again, you don’t see that very often. He was doing it at a lighter weight, also. Just be glad he continues to blossom. Kind of a late bloomer physically. We have an unusual talent at Montana that we can root for.

I know many on here think that he is not quite the same, but I will agree he just isn't the same quite yet after the injury. There is a mental game, and I think he is finally getting over some of that. I think the rest of the season, as long as he is healthy, he will be a big contributor to the offense. He is still my favorite back and I think is the best one overall.

I agree, except that I also like Ostmo. He was really come on this year and as the season as gone on. I like the other backs too.

 I laugh because as I think about it...yeah, this is true. Not one is bad, and this year THAT position I'm good with whomever is in there. Ostmo has absolutely come on. He has always been a hard runner but I think he is a bit shiftier this year. I still love Knight. He is my top 3 favorite players.
Kobezoey said:Agreed! ACL and meniscus surgery is no joke. Same thing Saquon Barkley went through. Marcus Knight has overcome a lot and I could not be happier for him. He came a long way and is back to form, and continuing to add to his game. The future is very bright for him. Also, very excited for the TE, Rensvold. What an overcomer he is, as well.
indiancoyote said:He's the third best back period. Slow to hole and afraid of contact. Mayber next year he'll be over his fear.
indiancoyote said:I've watched him every game. Against Weber he had several opportunities for big gaines but was too slow to the hole or made horrible decisions because he was afraid of contact. Ostmo would have exploded through those holes. Knight is slow, overweight and afraid of contact. Hopefully next year he's back to where he was as a freshmen.

I’ll let y’all figure out which one of those is Knight.

Ypc really doesn't mean a whole lot especially with the difference in the amount of carries. Stats mean jack shit when theyre cherry picked.
