Kitties vs. Spuds Game thread (combined threads)

Garbage game? I thought the Cats showed a much improved Defense. You can downplay and spin it all you want but the Cats D showed up. Offense needs to clean things up, and special teams is definitely a work in progress. MSU did a bit better than most of you guys were predicting a few days ago....but of course, that's because Idaho would be beat by Rocky not because MSU is improved.... #Can'twaitforStFrancis #WhotheFuc#isStFrancis?

This post is just meant for the guys with their heads up their asses.

I agree with your assessment. My impression is that the Cats have a very good coaching staff. This is based mostly on information coming out of Bozeman. It's only 1 game, but my guess is that most Cat fans feel better about the season after seeing this game. I was getting the impression that the Cats would be pretty bad, but they sure weren't tonight. That first Cat drive was very good.

Does anyone else think UI looked like they were in prison FB uniforms?

That was the biggest takeaway for me. Couldn't they have at least laundered those things? Jesus.

Other thoughts:

None.

Thank you all for watch the game. As a Cat fan, I saw some major positives, and some major negatives......I will now try to convince my wife that the amount I drank tonight is a coronation of those two thing....
Thank you for those thoughtful comments, unfronzen caveman cat fan!

Pretty freakin' good work, right there.

Cats D is visibly improved, but hasn't proved to be good yet. Depth on offense could be an issue for them. Their OL was dominant in the 1st half and then tired out in the 2nd and lost the advantage. Their QB locked on to WR's and didn't handle pressure well. Also his first game too though, so who knows how he'll progress. Got to think DC's learned a lot on how to game plan for what appears to be a limited offense at this point.

Idaho looks like they usually do. Bottom tier of the FBS. Higher end Big Sky Conference talent.

Cat D hasn't seen anything like that for a long time. We'll have to see if Choate blames the Defense.

There's nothing that I saw that showed the Cats defense "visibly improved". It was IDAHO they were playing, and Idaho's offense was nonexistent. And when Idaho's offense did show life, they went right through the Cats defense.

Cat D actually looking quite promising for such an early game. It’s a good thing that we will have Idaho’s SECOND STRING — or was he third — to go against them if Gustafson is injured when that game comes around. After all, that’s a late season game and BG may very well be out by then.

Sure, TG doesn't make adjustments. Some of you UM posters are truly idiots, and obviously never played the game and know absolutely nothing about it. You are embarrassments to Griz football and to yourselves.

35 for 211, at 6.4 ypc.

If the spudniks had had a QB who could throw at the Little Grizzly level, that game is a blowout. You can't give up 211, 6.4 and call it a successful defensive effort.

I say, if the Cats had mounted any reasonable offensive effort, that game is a blowout. Quite a successful D effort by the Cats to stay in it.

same could be said for Idaho......it was a game of futility......2 terrible offenses.....making defenses look much better than they really are........

It was evidently better, especially in the secondary and it wasn't just because their QB struggled to get the ball on target. Coverage was visibly better than what I saw last year. Better technique. More diciplined. More aggressive. Got to spots quicker. The Cats defense last year would have given up considerably more points. Of course when an offense shows life the defense is going to look worse. Its the defense's job not to let the O show life...lol

I'm not saying their defense is good or even average yet, but it is miles ahead of last year's.

the only adjustment......necessary....was Petrino sticking with Linehan......dude wouldn't start on most Pop Warner teams.......
Cal Poly? Weber? NDSU? Are you suggesting that sticking with a failing QB, or one obviously having a bad game, in a given game is a flaw? Seriously?

The Vandals ran for 8 YPC.....not exactly stellar run defense. Idaho's quarterback looked like a point guard throwing bounce passes into the low post area when attempting to throw a football. He had a really bad night.

Yeah. No. Not even comparable. Linehan is horrible....and they've known that for 2 years. He couldn't hold Bardy's jock.

Had to laugh when, after halftime, the Vandals announcer said that the Big Sky should be scared of the Vandals coming back in a couple years because of their facilities and fan base. The fact that he said this while broadcasting a game from a half-full quonset was apparently lost on him.

He also said the Vandals would eventually wear down the Cats with their "superior roster". Yeah...not so much. Seems that Idaho expects to come back to the Big Sky and dominate, but they'd be a middle of the road Big Sky team now, with an FBS-sized roster.
