Haha, No, I think Amie and Colter and others who cover the Griz full time are on the job. They can have this one. I've got the Northern football debacle to deal with here at home.
So George, has Northern just basically given up?
I will say, the one's who are still playing, no, it doesn't feel like they've given up. But, this has been a repeating trend at Northern for the last three years. Hopes are high in spring ball that they will make progress, even higher in fall camp. Then, they play reasonably well early in the season, as was the case this year when they had Rocky beat in the first game of the season. Hell, even the first time they played Tech, they had over 500 yards of total offense and scored as many points as anyone has on Tech all season long. But, slowly, things start to go south, they get blown out a couple of times, and players, who obviously weren't fully bought in to begin with, bail. By the time Northern played Tech on Saturday, they started something like eight true or red-shirt freshman on defense, because of kids up and quitting midseason as well as a couple of key injuries. Then, you go against a Tech offense where the talent disparity is so far out of proportion, and you get what happened Saturday.
So honestly, no I don't think the team that is still there is quitting, but, the program itself is just absolutely stuck in what is an impossible situation to get out of. They need more talent, they need AA kids from Montana like all the other Frontier schools have. But, after so many games where it's just so lopsided, over and over, how, no matter who the coach is, do you get those kids to come? How do you ever win those kids over? I will give the current coaching staff credit. They have tried hard to get it going in the right direction. It hasn't happened though. And I'm left wondering, now what?
