Joining the Mountain West would run an $8MM - $9MM annual deficit - can we overcome that?

UM currently isn't even in top of FCS spending, MSU is No.1, I think the Griz are 4 or 5th, no way they can compete in football in the PAC.
I think MSU has had one year of bigger spending. My guess is that there is a one-time explanation for that. Dig deeper. Edit: Yes, I checked. MSU had a big jump in spending and revenue from 2024 to 2025.

MSU revenue from 2025 compared to 2024:

Other revenue: 2.0 from 1.5
Corp sponsorships, ads and licensing: same, .25
Donors: 6.6 from 5.4 UM 2025 was 6.3
Guarantees 1.0 from .4 (the Oregon game)
Conf, ncca and media: 3.77 from 3.3
Tickets sales: 6.3 from 4.2. UM 6.8
Institutional support: 12 from 11.15. UM 9.2
Student fees: 2.3 from 2.23. UM 1.16

So, comparing MSU and UM:

Corporate sponsorships - 1.77, down from 3 in 2024
Donors - MSU ahead $300,000
Guarantees - MSU way ahead
Conf, ncaa and media: MSU ahead .37
Tickets sales: UM ahead by .5
Institutional support - MSU got 2.8 more
Student fees - MSU ahead 1.4

Of bigger things or fund-raising, MSU got a slight bit more from donors; more from Oregon game guarantee; .37 more from conference, NCAA and media; UM got .5 more from ticket sales; MSU got 2.8 more than institutional support; MSU got 1.4 more from student fees.

MSU improved its ticket sales and had an extra home playoff game (UM). UM gets way more in corp sponsorships, ads and licensing; MSU improved its donor contribution by 1.2 and was slightly ahead of UM. Conf, NCAA and media was better for UM. Insitutional support is way higher. Student fees are significantly higher. I don't see anything to indicate MSU is running away from UM on raising money. Based on 2025 and 2024.

Good information doe AD Dept release an annual report on this.

UM athletics had a $1.33 million deficit for FY2025.
No according to the Knight Foundation numbers. .67 defiicit. Where are your numbers from?

MSU had deficit of 1.213 million according to Knight Foundation. Their game day and travel expensive went up 2.2. MSU had about 2 million more of those expenses than UM.

I think a fun and interesting lawsuit would be a school v. NCAA/conference fighting any restriction on on-uniform sponsorships. If I was a lower level FBS school, I’d take a flyer on it and if we won, I’d go full on EPL style sponsored jerseys for tens of millions per year. Just a big ol’ “VERIZON” on the jersey and “BASS PRO SHOPS” on the helmet instead of “UTEP” or whatever.

I wouldn’t be able to hear the critics over the home crowd cheering for the absolute all-American team we sign every season in every sport.
