Its Time to Clean House.

TNT, obviously you pretty much missed my point all together. I NEVER EVER once denied that people STOP being fans. If I did, show me where I said that. IN FACT, I concluded my post by saying, like there is NOTHING WRONG WITH ME BEING A FAN THROUGH THICK AND THIN, THERE IS ALSO NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU STOPPING BEING A FAN. As a human being, that is your right to make your own choices in life and being a fan or not being a fan of the Griz is ONE OF THEM.

See, the difference between me and you is, I accept what you're saying. I accept that you are exercising your right to be unhappy with the Griz football program, and possibly walking away from the Griz all together. I accept that and have no interest in trying to stop you. But on the other hand, because the Griz are in my heart and I'm going to be a fan until the day I die, and because I also realize I'm not employed by the University of Montana, and therefore have no control over who the coach is, who plays and what type of offense the program runs, you call me and others stupid and whatever else you chose to post in your last rant. In other words, you are another poster who simply can't handle a different point of view than your own.

I don't think Payton's point was "bad fan vs good fan" his point is NO ONE IS FORCED TO BE A GRIZ fan. I've posted the same thing many many times. When fans go over the line of what they're actually entitled to, I think it's worth reminding them that they are indeed NOT entitled to what they think they are.

I'm sorry, but NOWHERE on a season ticket does it say the Griz will won that game, will play a certain style, will hire a certain coach, will play more Montana-born kids over California or Washington-born kids, will go for it on 4th down, will have a kicker who can make 60 yard boots with regularity, will ever beat the Cats again, will have Monte jump in with the Skydivers, will play Alpha's favorite songs, and the list of what the UM DOES NOT PROMISE YOU OR OWE YOU due to the price of admission goes on and on. I know this because I am looking at a season ticket right now, and I don't see any of the things, or ANY promises for that matter.

I also did not have anyone show up at my doorstep and strong-arm me into purchasing this season ticket. It was a choice and the choice was mine and mine alone. I made that choice knowing full well I have ZERO say, input or control over matters that pertain to Grizzly football inside the white lines, at practice, in meeting rooms, in the AD's office and so on.

Point is, we CHOOSE TO BE FANS, we don't HAVE TO BE. We CHOOSE to spend out money on Griz football, WE DO NOT HAVE TO. And if WE as fans DON'T LIKE Grizzly football anymore, WE don;t have to be fans anymore. It's that simple. For me, the choice is actually really simple, I will CHOOSE to be a Griz fan until I'm dead in the ground. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, and I won't think there's anything wrong with Monte or TNT or AG1 or Growler for deciding NOT to be Griz fans anymore either.

Thats exactly right. And when what is being delivered is a less desirable product and you start losing fans changes need to be made. Whether its a change in coaching, ADs office, or main hall, its irrelevent so long as the changes are made.

If you honestly believe that the haslam - delaney - engstrom combination is what will bring the program forward and has no part in large numbers of fans being very unhappy go for it. If you are so incredibly stupid to believe that people quit liking and following their team or continue to send in their checks when they are unhappy go for that to. I was fan through carlson, gritted my teeth through Hauck, and thrilled when Don Read, despite his defection to NAU was brought in to restore the integrity of the AD office.

Yeah there is no gurantee printed on the ticket, but that doesn't mean you don't have expectations or are less of a fan when you let folks know you are unhappy.

Constant complaining, combined with some of the lies you tell, hurts the program much more than what's you've been complaining about today.

Do you want to detail my complaints? I'm disappointed I've only gotten two of your three insults today. I need to step up my game apparently.

For a start, it would be nice to see a full paragraph or two from you about the athletic program without any incorrect information or lies. Also, are you sure I dished out only 3 insults today? Thought the count would have been much higher than that.

Havgrizfan, you are always right on. I am a Cat fan but appreciate your posts. You tell it like it is. Keep it up!

People judging the crowd/attendance/participation based on a HOMECOMING crowd are just being (temporarily?) stupid. It's an entirely different crowd....

Nope only two of the three you use when you have nothing to say. In fact this is the first time I have gotten the you never played the game. I have only gotten you are a liar up until today. I keep hoping to get the list of accomplishments insult. You have repeated the same insult numerous times, but you will note I have never returned one. I have suggested you gave your nose firmly planted in the athletic departments rear. But having a pretty good idea what you pay to have it there, it really isn't an insult, unless you consider that despite your numerous accomplishments, you can't afford similar position at either one of your alma maters. But the neither can I. The University of Montana really is affordable.

You have no knowledge about what I contribute, financially or otherwise, to UM athletics. You have no knowledge of the contributions of the my wife and my families. My contributions to both of my alma maters have been sufficient for some of my kids to be accepted at both schools, and I have complete access to several sports at my undergrad school. One again you proved what a liar you are.

You must be dyslexic, because you miss the point over and over again. What the freak does being unhappy with the product being put on the field have to do with being a fan? Are we supposed to just be happy that we are allowed the luxury of paying hundreds of dollars every year to sit and watch this team, without being able to state our dissatisfaction with what we are watching? If you think that, then I don't agree with you. It has absolutely nothing to do with being a good little fan and shutting the f*ck up or having the dreaded label of bad fan from self righteous morons who think they have the right to tell all other fans what to say or think.

mtgrizrule: again, you are spot on! I had the thought at half-time that MD was going to try to get the kinks worked out on the running game. That kind of running game is just too predictable. Run on first and second downs, pass on third and long, and punt. Hopefully the co-offensive coordinators can now prove to MD that his very conservative offensive mind needs opened.

To post that the coaches should be let go when the team is 3-2 and ranked in the top ten is as useless as tits on a bull.

I might be one of the few on EGriz that ACTUALLY knows what its like to see a crappy UM football team. Yep I was there during the 3-8 years and spent many second half pretty much alone in a section... not because everyone left during a laugher, but because NO ONE was there to begin with. Hard to believe TNT that in those days 3000 fans was a GREAT gate.

TNT and others...
- No one is making you pay to come to the stadium.
- No one is making you buy the shirts etc.
- No one is making you watch on TV.
- No one will even care if your not at the game.
- If it so bad give your tickets to someone that will love the experience.

In Short - No one is making you be a Griz fan

I have coached and been around athletics for over 35 years and we should all be very appreciative of what UM football has done in the last quarter century.

I bet there is only a few teams at ANY level that would not change their level of success for UM's. Maybe the Alabama's and Florida State's would, But honestly who else wouldn't change W/L records?

BTW, you do realize that almost every team schedules a weak opponent as "homecoming"... It would be really embarrassing to lose to say lose by 20 to EWU with all the alumni were at the game. On yes I know, lets schedule Washington, BSU, WSU,Oregon to come to Missoula for homecoming. But there is a major problem, NONE of those teams will play any FCS team on the road.

If you want better games, be prepared for what you are asking. I for one would love to see UM move up to a better conference, but I am a realist and understand that there will be some lean years when that happens.

I am also sure that TNT wont be a part of the UM fan base then, he has "Band wagon" written all over his comments.

Now that you are finished lecturing us on being good fans, and using Alabama and Florida State as examples, I would like to ask you how long Sabin or Jimbo would be around as coaches if they had Mick's record the past two years? If you think the Griz fans are too critical of their team, you should be around the SEC as I was for twelve years. You have no clue what pressure is from a fan base.

You sir, have a "God Complex"

"A god complex is an unshakable belief characterized by consistently inflated feelings of personal ability, privilege, or infallibility. A person with a god complex may refuse to admit the possibility of their error or failure, even in the face of complex or intractable problems or difficult or impossible tasks, or may regard their personal opinions as unquestionably correct.[1][2] The individual may disregard the rules of society and require special consideration or privileges."

I watched the root replay tonight and also looked over the play by play stats at gogriz.com. The first drive of the second half was a 4 minute, 60 yard drive that resulted in the successful mid range FG (one of the things the team has struggled with and hence got to "work on" in the second half).

UNC then held the ball for its own 9 minute drive which resulted in a matching FG. With a 38-10 lead, although I didn't play the game I'd say a bend don't break defensive scheme here is not subject to criticism. Needing a lot of points, UNC consumed 30% of the second half clock to get 3 points.

Next griz drive was two quick first downs covering 23 yards into UNC territory, ended by
Canada's fumble (which would have been reversed on replay if the BSC used it- his knee was down before the ball came out). It would have been 2nd down and 6 yards to go from the UNC 44 yard line.

The final three possessions were run-out-the-clock possessions with reserves that, given the injury situation I am also okay with the strategy used there. Oh, and one of these possessions had a 3rd and 10 conversion with a beautiful pass from JJ10 to JJ6.

Not every game will be an instant classic like the SDSU or App State playoff games, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a well played and coached game.
