It's Official: Roper coming to Montana

i would say you guys have a problem. a good problem to have. too many qb's and they all want to prove themselves. barnes from weber was a dissapointment. the players should never feel too comfortable in starting. they should be at their peek performance every rep they take. who wouldn't take a drop down? let the proof be in the puddin. for my sake i hope the coaches put the worst one of them on the field and for your sake i am sure they will put the very best one on the field come game time. you guys are making to big of a deal over a good problem to have. go bengals

Former University of Oregon quarterback Justin Roper will not play at Towson after committing to the University of Montana Saturday afternoon. Roper, who would have had two years remaining of eligibility remaining for the Tigers, entered the season as the starter for Oregon last season before getting hurt midway through the year. His best game came a year prior in Oregon’s 56-21 Sun Bowl victory over the University of South Florida in 2007. Roper threw four touchdowns and completed 17-30 passes for nearly 200 yards. Towson was in Roper’s final two schools after UMass was dropped from consideration.
“That any really good prospect is paying attention to the momentum and the excitement that will be our future speaks well of the program and the institution,” head coach Rob Ambrose said. “Montana’s been to the playoffs and they have won. They’re proven and we’re not. In the end, that’s it.”

Montana finished the 2008 season with a record of 14-2 and reached the Football Championship Subdivision final before losing to the CAA’s Richmond Spiders.

I agree, I think BH probably promised or told Justin he had the position locked up which kind of annoys me when they bring down drop downs after these kids have been working their butts of for this position but whatever BH. I agree with others who said Larson will probably move to receiver where I'm sure he'll do just fine. He's a great athlete with lots of options. Selle will probably be backup which sucks for him but that's life in Division I football!

Actually, on KPAX the other night, in a phone interview, Roper said himself, that he was not promised the job...he was promised a chance for the job. He's excited to come here and fight for the opportunity to be starting QB...that was the jist anyway
Go GRIZ!! 8-)

This coming from a guy who was calling for Bergqiust's job last season in favor of Selle. Check the "Can we please start Selle" threads. Youre a joke man

Subject: FORMER OREGON QB NOW AT MONTANA

FORMER OREGON QB JUSTIN ROPER JOINS GRIZZLY FOOTBALL PROGRAM

MISSOULA, MONTANA (July 1, 2009) - Former University of Oregon
quarterback Justin Roper has accepted a scholarship offer to play
football for The University of Montana Grizzlies, announced UM Head
Coach Bobby Hauck.
A 6-6, 205-pounder, Roper, who started four games for the Ducks,
will be a junior eligibility-wise and is expected to compete for the
starting job at Montana.
"I was looking to find some playing time in a system that best
suits me, and I felt like Oregon was going in a different direction, so
we parted ways" said Roper, who recently moved to Missoula, when asked
why he came to UM. "Obviously Montana has a great football tradition.
They have a great following and they win. It just seemed like a great
fit."
Roper, from Buford, Georgia, played in six games last season at
Oregon, and was sidelined with a knee injury that he suffered against
Purdue which forced him to miss four games. Last year he was 48-of-91-4
(.527) passing for 610 yards and three touchdowns, and he also rushed 17
times for 85 yards and a score.
The highlight of his career at Oregon came in 2007 as a redshirt
freshman when he led the Ducks to a 56-21 Sun Bowl victory over South
Florida, as he passed for a bowl record four touchdowns, completing
17-of-30-0 for 180 yards in his first career start. He played in five
games as a redshirt frosh, going 32-of-61-2 (.525) for 342 yards and six
touchdowns. He was a redshirt at UO in 2006.
He was a PrepStar all-region pick and ranked among the top 75
prospects in Georgia and one of the top 28 quarterbacks in the nation
following his senior year's 12-1 record and 8-AA league championship at
Buford High School.
His senior year he threw for more than 1,423 yards and 18
touchdowns despite playing for a run-oriented system. The Wolves went
25-3 over his final two prep years, and his team set a Georgia high
school record by winning 47 games in a row.
He was a versatile, four-sport letterman as a prep, competing in
football, basketball, track and field, and swimming. He was a starting
guard in basketball, finished third in the state high jump (6-6), and
was clocked in at 1:04 in the 100-meter breaststroke. His high school
football coach was Jess Simpson.
His parents are Brad and Donna Roper. His birth date is July
28, 1987. He is undecided on a major.

Everyone mentions the knee injury but does anyone know specifically what kind of injury it was? ACL? Something like that? I assume since he only missed 4 games it wasn't an ACL, perhaps the MCL?

Oh, come on. You are not that easily duped, are ya? What did you expect Roper to say, "Yeah, Bobby promised me the starting QB job if I signed with Montana"! Great way to start out on a positive note with your teammates, right? You will never hear the real story on anything in a TV interview.

Here is the proof that it is all part of The Grand Conspiracy :o
