I wouldn't be surprised if the MWC was in fact somewhat blindsided. Both the Big XII and the PAC 12 were blindsided by the loss of UT/ OU/ USC/ UCLA.If they didn't have a contingency plan for this, then they are incompetent. Who thought things would stay this way for any actual amount of time?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I highly doubt what people have been hearing in the news is what's also been going on behind the scenes. These moves did not come out of nowhere on a whim.
I think that's different, though. That was the catalyst to everything going tits up. Conversely for the MWC, they had to know a 2-team Pac-2 was not going to be a viable long-term solution, and that OSU and WSU wanted to bring members in (they said as much!).I wouldn't be surprised if the MWC was in fact somewhat blindsided. Both the Big XII and the PAC 12 were blindsided by the loss of UT/ OU/ USC/ UCLA.
I hadn't read your post yet and had written pretty much the same thingFor starters, these moves to the PAC12 literally happened this morning. So maybe the Mountain west hasn't exactly picked up the phone in the first few hours and rather are meeting with their presidents and officials in the conference office to determine what the next steps are.
Secondly, just because Haslam said no conversations have taken place, doesn't mean he's telling the truth. This conference re-alignment stuff has been held very close to the vest with any school that's been involved so far. They haven't exactly been running out to the media disclosing that they're changing conferences. Also Haslam said no invitation has been offered. Well no shit. The MWC is not in a position to be extending offers a mere 5 hours later after they got raided by the PAC12. Things move fast, but not that fast.
How about we just wait and see how things unfold in the coming days and weeks? Odds are conversations will start taking place in the very near future.
But they knew if not this year than next year. WSU and OSU weren't going to let the Pac# dream die.Did they though? A couple weeks ago, all signs were pointing towards the 2 leagues maintaining their scheduling alliance, and then literally last week the PAC12 changed their mind and reversed course on it
Really? Everyone knew that WSU/OSU would do everything possible to revive the PAC#.I wouldn't be surprised if the MWC was in fact somewhat blindsided. Both the Big XII and the PAC 12 were blindsided by the loss of UT/ OU/ USC/ UCLA.
Nothing about the Griz football season will be overshadowed by conference realignment news.I do wanna say one thing though. It is a damn shame that this is happening in the middle of Football season. I think this team deserves our undivided attention as they have the potential to do some special things and I would hate for this teams potential accomplishments to become over shadowed by all the conference realignment news.
Sure. And the MWC increased the fees associated with teams leaving.Really? Everyone knew that WSU/OSU would do everything possible to revive the PAC#.
Especially the Grand Forks forkup, right? That is a sunset shadow.Nothing about the Griz football season will be overshadowed by conference realignment news.
I would argue that by increasing the fees, they had more than an inkling.Sure. And the MWC increased the fees associated with teams leaving.
Maybe they had an inkling. Maybe they really thought nothing would come of it since joining WSU and OSU is really nothing more then remaking the MWC under a different name. People are overconfident or clueless at all levels of administration.
From your barber's sister's boyfriend's cousin that heard it from his buddy's brother's dad?
Sac State is the only Big Sky School that meets FBS requirements for number of sponsored sports. Our glaring blemish is our facilities. A chunk of that MWC buyout money would go a long ways to help us with that...We’re going to get left behind aren’t we.
Smh whenever I hear somebody say they would rather play a Dakota school every single year in the same suburb in Texas (like a Stephen King book) rather than play a bigger, new school in a new city each year.Ah shit, fam!![]()
Sure. I guess what I'm saying is never underestimate the ability of people to be naive.I would argue that by increasing the fees, they had more than an inkling.
Not sure this gives them any type of edge.Sac State is the only Big Sky School that meets FBS requirements for number of sponsored sports. Our glaring blemish is our facilities. A chunk of that MWC buyout money would go a long ways to help us with that...
