It happenin

Except this theory doesn't hold up to history. When both those programs made the move, it was widely considered that Idaho was in far better position to have success than Boise, and that Boise only moved up because Idaho did. Guess what? Boise won, Idaho didn't.

Would Montana? I believe they absolutely would.

And even if we consider the absolute worst case scenario (Idaho), what are the odds of failure at the fbs level? 95%? 90%? Idaho is the only team not to "make it" financially, and Montana is so much more fbs ready now than Idaho was even after 15 years at that level.
And everyone in the know says Boise succeeded because they had the financial support and Idaho didn’t. You need to pay more attention.

Curious do you think UM would have the Boise level of support?

Not going to come from giant upping student fees you can count on that it would never fly with the actual people making that call. UM students pay about $80 JMU who people like to say "if they can do it so can UM" students pay over $5000 ***read these numbers on twitter just today Montana is the second lowest level of funding by fee/state funds (MSU is 5th lowest) It take a lot of money to be successful at FBS level and I personally don't think UM can afford it to be overly competitive (maybe get to the "Who gives a shit bowl" every few years is about it. And that cuts out multiple home playoff game revenues to UM (even with NCAA taking their shares) and the city of Missoula will lose millions.

No. Not even close. Boise has all of those big companies. Missoula and UM don’t. I completely agree with what you said.

I think we see more changes in conferences after the season is over.
The MWC I think will want to have more teams to add in keeping at 8.
We know the PAC still needs to add another football school and they won’t want to site at 8 or 9 either.
There is some strength in additional numbers here.

I suspect the MWC and PAC are looking at who to add and how that all might pencil out when discussing media deals.

The MWC is going to have a hard time getting many other mid major conference schools to join.

If the PAC does somehow get Memphis, Tulane, ITSA etc that will just cause those conferences to back fill them with do they go after?? MWC teams? FCS teams??

I think something comes to light just after the new year. Hopefully that will include UM, MSU, NDSU, SDSU.

Time will tell I.

This makes me really happy to see that the two Dakotas and the Montanas all have been talking and want to move together as a 4-team package deal. I think if any move happens, it needs to be with these four together. I love the idea of being in a conference with MSU, NDSU, and SDSU and playing games with these three teams every year.

Riley included the pregame interview with Haslam in this weeks Inside the Den and holy shit you weren't kidding Everett. That's about as sour of a tone as I have heard him take on the Big Sky in his tenure. It would appear that he's itching to go and seemed to be hinting that we could be a top target in the next round of Mountain West expansion. He didn't even wanna talk about the Big Sky AD meetings and things that were discussed, all he said was "I'm focused on UM and what's in our best interest". He did also seem to imply that no more moves with the Mountain West seem imminent and that they'll probably slow down for a bit and maybe work on a tv deal or something. Here's the link!

Found this series of lines from Kent interesting.

"Everyone is looking at each other wondering what the other teams are going to do... there's a lot of eyes on us and Montana State... at points you can talk candidly and at other points you just can't... it's an interesting time."

"The Mountain West has found its 8th, that's the magic number, I'd imagine that they will want to go bigger than that. Our fit (Montana) is far more the Mountain West than the institutions that are now there. We just want to be prepared, we feel like we have our facilities in a spot where we're prepared, our fanbase is certainly attractive and the television audience that we bring. And when I saw 'we', I do also mean Montana State because we are governed by the same Board of Regents so we are tied together. It's calmed for a little while but it's going to ramp back up when the Mountain West decides what it wants to do."

Thanks for the link, GTID.

Yeah, it was his completely dismissive comments about the bsc meetings that really made me think that not only does UM want out of it (as they should), but that it's going to happen sooner rather than later.

Just think of all the big companies the ecoterrorists have run out of town in the last 40 years. Hell, the only industry in Missoula now IS the university.

Yep, we’re shackled to a corpse.
