I know the "geographic" thing has pretty much gone away in the P4, but GAWD I hope they don't do that "eastern" thing...college football has just about destroyed any semblance of rivalries at this point...They care deeply about the programs and their rivalry. It's the only real sports the communities have. Unfortunately the programs themselves have been horrible at hiring and consistently blown opportunities to grow said enthusiasm. As for the Pac-6... I think that they might go one of two different ways. One would be what you suggest - UNLV for sure, and maybe SJSU after that. OR, I could see them trying something much different - enticing 6 eastern schools, maybe from the AAC (Memphis, Tulane, etc.) and splitting into a western and eastern division. Basically taking the best of the current G5 and dividing them into two regional divisions to ease travel burdens.
But who knows. Will be interesting to watch.
And to the first point, if they were THAT heavily invested and cared so deeply about the programs, they'd have more than 12,000 peoples' butts in the seats on fall Saturdays. So, agree to disagree there, I guess. I live in Texas and I just don't see it.
