The Griz are a good team. We will soon see how good. I never thought the Griz were a great team. I expect the Griz to recover from the loss, and get back to fixing things and improving.
SS played very well tonight, are a good team, their qb is good, and their receivers made a lot of tough catches. I can't imagine that they can continue to catch the ball like that.
UM can't have 12 penalties for 202 yards, especially with the other team having only 1 penalty. Yes, some of the PI calls were incorrect, and perhaps a few others too, but things like that happen in some games.
Don't know why Hauck didn't challenge the second pick late in the half. Looked to me that the ball hit the ground as the receiver was diving/stretching to catch it. Was a huge shift in the game.
Griz receivers need to catch the ball better.
Sneed was fine, but didn't have his usual great game. Was pushed out of the pocket a bit too much. Hope he's okay. Think UM would have scored a couple more TD's with him in the game, but still not enough, of course.
I can't explain how the secondary let receivers get so many yards behind them, like they did several times. It was usually a safety chasing them. Don't know what defense UM was in or what went wrong. Will be interesting to learn more.
I don't fault 96 for not quite being able to cover 33 out of the backfield and downfield so far. Don't fault the safety either, but it seemed that he was slow in reacting to the play, when I saw the replay. Nice play, nice blocking, nice route, nice throw, nice catch.
Our tackling wasn't bad, but it could and should have been better. SS was usually getting too much yardage on first and second down.
Running game wasn't and isn't strong enough yet, but was okay at times. O-line didn't seem to block as well as they had in past games. We gave up 6 sacks. Again, I couldn't really see what was going on.
Don't know what was off on early open pass to Bingham over the middle. There were many plays like that, which the Griz needed to win way more than they did.
JLM's early long TD run was awesome, and incredibly well blocked. Toure had a great and long block downfield.
561 to 391 on TO. 31 to 15 on first downs. Ouch. 39 to 21 on TOP. Average per play was fairly even at 6.8 to 6.1, but SS had 83 plays, and 19 more than Griz.
Our 3d and 4th down conversions were 4 of 15, and 2 of 5. Not very good. SS wasn't great either, but they didn't need them because they were getting so much on 1st and 2d downs.
Punting was good, but too many. 5 for 42.6 and almost no returns.
I think SS will lose some games, as their schedule isn't a cakewalk. If they win or most of them, then they deserve to be conference champs. I would be happy to play them again.
Could Pluto such any more?
I know UM got beat every which way, but all we have to do is get way less penalties, cover deep better in long yardage situations, have our receivers catch the ball like SS's did, protect Sneed better, and challenge a key call every once in a while. Really, that's all. Ha. I thought our guys fought pretty hard to the finish.
