Possibly because Utah Tech is now a Big Sky Conference member. Either way, this gives the opportunity to schedule a more desirable non-conference game (FBS or regional FCS power).

I like this! UTRGV will be playing only their second ever season of Football this year, but they have invested heavily in Football! They have a very nice stadium (even if it only sits 12k), and a beautiful new Football facility! By the time this series rolls around, both programs could be FBS. I wish this series was sooner than 2030. That’d be a fun game to have on the schedule next year!
Colleges& Universities

University of Texas Rio Grand Valley will be a speedy team. Location, location, location. They probably have picked up some illegal alien talent, seen running from the Border Patrol. Like the scene from 'Forrest Gump' where runs through a practice, getting the attention of the Bear Bryant Head Coach. The look is classic.
