Gut Feelings

Griz are gonna roll this year. Conf champs, deep playoff run. Our defense will be much improved, as will the OL, and run game. The griz of old are coming back and it will be a sight to be seen. Heard it here first negative Nancy's

Every FB school in the FCS will say they are getting better and can compete in the upper levels of FCS (say make the playoffs). Let's see how the top 15 schools in 2023 nationally and the top 3 schools n the BSC shake out. The Griz (IMO solely) will have a tough time making the cut in both categories.

No bets please - just a gut feeling.

Top 15 is a given. Made top 15 last fall even with our qb out. With Johnson, top 5. This is an informed analysis. Not a gutless feeling.

I truly hope you're right. I respect your opinion as your played the game (I did not) and your informed analysis is mostly correct. However, I have a different opinion than you right now for the upcoming year results.

Johnson won one game against a team with a winning record. I get that his coach was horrible and was fired, but Rosey didn't fumble the ball at the one against Idaho State, the Cats or NDSU or throw multiple interceptions against Idaho at home. Johnson was a below average FCS qb and his record proves it.

Can I assume the the Griz will not be in the top 3 of the BSC at the end of this upcoming year based upon your reply?

No, you can’t assume anything. Just rely on your gut, since you apparently don’t understand football.

Its not my intention to derail this thread by pitting one person's opinions against another's opinion or Cat fans against Griz fans. I'm a Griz fan. I'm a UM Grad. I''m an old fart. This is a Griz chat room. I'm trying to have Griz fans share their opinions on the status & prospects of the current football team for the upcoming 2023 season.

I had high hopes for the Griz last year. I was disappointed like many other fans. The past is the past. The future starts today.

Can I assume in your opinion the Griz will be a top 15 team at the end of this season?

I think the Griz will be fine this year, but that's a long way from stellar!
Last season was a crash course in bad breaks, bad injuries and to a lesser degree, bad luck. Both the Sac State and Weber State games are case in point.

I would love to see better use of running backs utilized more in the passing game, and more to the tight ends.
Defensively, the line play has to improve. That might require getting away from the 3-3-5 scheme, particularly against offenses like NDSU.

At least, that is what my gut is telling me, and I have a lot of gut! ;)

Who said anything about a decade? Nobody. Please post better, you are embarrassing yourself.

I just don't think 10+ years ago is recent. Please post better, you are embarrassing yourself....again.

Who cares what you think? Griz history is an important part of the program. Particularly knowing there would be multiple home playoff games.

I respect your opinion. I differ. Like you I have a lot of gut feelings. Our win-loss record in the upcoming year will tell who's right.

WestCoast we all know who you are, and we all know you are a diehard cat fan. Most of us d, know who you really are also. I suggest therapy. Find someone close to you to talk with, like a family member or good friend. I’m guessing they would say to move on in your life. The lie isn’t worth it.

Yep, diehard Cat fan who's been season ticket holder for the Griz going on 33 years. I would never in my life say Johnson was a good qb. He won one game against a team with a winning record.

You’re not even 33 years old. Lol

That was a quick pivot from "recency bias" to "Griz history". Solid work. You do know that Griz history does include pre 1985?

No pivot. Yes, 1985 and before matters in the history, and why so many vividly remember knowing there would be multiple home playoff games in the glory years.

The "glory years", how great it must be living in the past.

And even greater accepting the glory of living in the mediocrity of the present

History:

When I attended UM the Griz went W-1 and L-8 in '66; W-7 and L-3 in '67; W-2 and L-8 in 68; W-10 and L-0 in '69. In '69 we went to the Camellia Bowl and lost to North Dakota State College 3-30.

In '70 we had a 10-0 record and went to the Camellia Bowl again. Lost again to North Dakota State College 16-31. I was at Fort Benning at the start of the Griz FB season in '70 attending the Infantry Officer Training program preparing to head overseas. I believe Boise State and Northern Arizona joined the Big Sky that year. Never watched/listened or read about any FB games that year.

During my 4 yrs at UM the Freshman FB players played several games against Big Sky teams of that era. Never attended any of those games.

I remember Main Hall having a hand written "Red Book" on one of the front counters that students could review if someone was interested on who was on the FB team, where they came from and other FB info. I couldn't afford a subscription to the local newspaper at that time that was up to date with that info.

Almost all of the FB team belong the Sigma Nu and Sigma Chi fraternities. Good students. Respectful. No wild parties. I remember that they like to laugh and proudly wore their UM football jackets everywhere on campus.

Preseason national champs!

Something you know all about, huh? The difference is, is Bobcats would say that after having a 4 win season.
