Gut Feelings

You don’t have a dual threat QB on the roster anywhere near as talented as Johnson. That will be the main problem, and I foresee pages and pages of bitching and moaning about why the coaches aren’t putting in the backups. Book mark this. Also, stubborn coaching staff trying to install new systems will be painful. That said, you’ll have enough talent to beat the weak and average teams on your schedule, but will get rolled by the upper echelon (Cats, the DSU’s, etc). Early playoff exit.

We don't have a QB on our roster that would be on the Cat's roster. Its going to take years to dig us out of the poor coaching that was happening at that positon.

I agree, we don’t have any RB/WR’s playing QB. Good call Upchuck.

I think it's reasonable to feel a little pessimistic right now. We had a disappointing year and there are a lot of positions that still feel unproven, even though we have a lot of guys coming back. The uncertainty surrounding the new offense (and maybe new defense), while potentially encouraging, gives me some uneasy feelings just because we don't know how it'll look.

This isn't even that bad, though, if you weren't here in the 2008 offseason, the prevailing sentiment from even optimistic fans was that we were going to have a rough season, with some people bracing for a 3-8 type year.

Pessimism from fans seems to bring out the best in this team (at least historically), so I'm cool with it. :thumb:

Recency bias. There was a time when Griz fans were basically all optimistic and absolutely knew multiple home playoff games were coming. Fans made zero plans in the late fall knowing they would be freezing their asses off and ruining their vocal chords in December...

Not sure people had those expectation in a decade.

I will be surprised and disappointed if we don't make the semi's. my gut, which is surprisingly ripped for an old guy, tells me it is going to be a great year to be a griz..

I hope you are right. This old guy feels slightly different. It's always a great year to be a Griz.

Who said anything about a decade? Nobody. Please post better, you are embarrassing yourself.

What is it about this year's team that makes you think they will advance to the semis? QB? WR? DL? OL?

Or, is it a rookie DC, or a new OC?

Weird. Mellott isn’t a good QB? What about Chambers Upchuck? Cats fans like you should be happy with QB play. Now the Grizzlies will have two excellent QB’s and will be a force to reckon with. Running backs are deep. Way deep. O line is powerhouse this year and I don’t worry one bit about the offense. Defense. Maybe some question marks, but I think a lot of the holes are being filled. I love the pessimism from Cat fans like you. Fine by me and can’t wait for the Griz to over perform many on this boards expectations. Going to be a great year.

Probably just me, but I'm really curious as to who that second excellent QB is? I likely just missed it when it was announced the first time.

WestCoast we all know who you are, and we all know you are a diehard cat fan. Most of us d, know who you really are also. I suggest therapy. Find someone close to you to talk with, like a family member or good friend. I’m guessing they would say to move on in your life. The lie isn’t worth it.

Yep, diehard Cat fan who's been season ticket holder for the Griz going on 33 years. I would never in my life say Johnson was a good qb. He won one game against a team with a winning record.

The Cat qb’s lost 2 games against teams with a winning record. Johnson also lost 2 plus played 1.5 quarters against in loss another winning team.

The Griz have to consistently win (not every time) on the road to be an elite team and an upper echelon BSC team. Injuries can't hold them back. They must find a way to win. To me the Griz are not there yet.

The pessimism of some Griz fans is something to behold. I think we have so much to be optimistic about. A pretty outstanding QB transfer and I think pretty good future prospects with Abbott, Huot and Ah Yat. A stacked RB group now adding Gilman (stud!) and the highest ranked recruit in Griz history. The entire offensive line is back..and no place is that more important as these guys get bigger, stronger and more experience working as unit. A pretty solid receiver group that will hopefully include a healthy Racanelli. Defensive line brings back a bunch and also Redshirt Frosh Ramos that was a Colorado State recruit and one of the best out of Colorado preps. Add a UCLA transfer for athleticism and another year along with Nebraska transfer Hustedt getting another year after converting from LB. The LB crew returns a solid core and add Genatone (Nebraska heavyweight champ that runs a 100 faster than anyone in Montana preps) and Walton another frormer CSU signee and Colorado All State player both coming off redshirt year. The secondary is stacked with an addition from Akron that looks real promising. Plus our kicker got an extra year! Oh and the best freshman punter in the nation is back! And you all got the coaching shift you wanted with a former SEC coordinator calling the shots. On defense we have a coordinator that has coached in the NFL and the PAC 12 and if anyone ever has watched practice has a great rapport with players. Let's effin go! Go Griz!

I just don't think 10+ years ago is recent. Please post better, you are embarrassing yourself....again.

Griz are gonna roll this year. Conf champs, deep playoff run. Our defense will be much improved, as will the OL, and run game. The griz of old are coming back and it will be a sight to be seen. Heard it here first negative Nancy's

Every FB school in the FCS will say they are getting better and can compete in the upper levels of FCS (say make the playoffs). Let's see how the top 15 schools in 2023 nationally and the top 3 schools n the BSC shake out. The Griz (IMO solely) will have a tough time making the cut in both categories.

No bets please - just a gut feeling.
