havgrizfan said:The hard part is losing the head-to-head battle for the quote-un-quote best senior in Montana. It's signifigant in that regard. It's like when people questioned the signing of Gustafson because he wasn't necessarily a fit for the Oregon offense. IMO, it doesn't matter. You have to go after and sign the Gatorade Montana Player of the Year regardless of the schemes you run. And while the Griz didn't get Trod that year, they got Brady (runner-up) and Kidder the next. Cat fans tried to say they didn't want both Brady and Kidder AFTER they inked with UM. While the fans may not have, Ash wanted both and offered both accordingly. Now the shoe is on the other foot. The Cats got the top senior in the state this season, and the GRIZ and Delaney sure as hell wanted him.
As for a Brekke being a running back, that part doesn't hurt as much in the short-term IMO. Canada has two more years, The Marshall transfer is in Missoula to start winter semester classes, Counts is the real deal in ANY offense and John Nuygen won't redshirt. I think in that regard, the Griz will be just fine without Brekke at that position. Never-the-less, it's a huge loss for the Griz BECAUSE he's the Gatorade Player of the Year and I don't care what Cat fans say, or what system either school runs, BOTH schools want every one of em'. And the Cats got this one. Hats off to Ash for the recruiting job they must have done because the kid verballed all the way last spring, and MSU never gave up on him apparently.
Spot on!
