Guess the Attendance--Reno

From the beginning of the selection process, I thought Billings or Spokane provided the best options for the tournament. As others have stated, both are driving distance from the Cats and Griz, which would immediately boost attendance. Neither is difficult to travel into, and it would be the"only game in town" here in Billings.

Spokane: Driving distance for Griz, Cats, Weebs, ISU, Idaho, PSU & EWU.

Yep, makes no sense.

I always thought that the Maverick Center in SLC would have been the best geographically, it's literally smack dab in the center of the conference

Would certainly have solvedtravel issues. SLC wasn't considered as a host, was it?

Google maps shows 947 miles from Missoula to Reno with an estimated driving time of 13 hrs. and 23 minutes. Also shows 4 sections in southern Idaho and Nevada with construction-related traffic delays. I call myself a diehard Griz fan... but... Oh well.

Keep in mind, when the tournament was in Missoula last year the attendance for the first games was right around 63; I still have pictures on my phone of -- or at least my twitter account. The attendance here really hasn't been much different.

That's the point. The first games were EWU v Idaho, and then Sac State v PSU. Those are the numbers you get when both teams are "visitors."

I am guessing that the first night at the Missoula tourney, when the Griz played to an overtime win over Weber, that the crowd was at least 5,700. That's the difference between "all visitors" and a "home team" playing.

Spokane would have showed well for the tourney (Idaho, EWU, and UM would have brought a lot of fans)...there is a reason the NCAA tourney keeps coming back. I think Spokane made the mistake in their presentation by stating the girls games would be played in Cheney except for the championship...

Spokane would have showed well for the tourney (Idaho, EWU, and UM would have brought a lot of fans)...there is a reason the NCAA tourney keeps coming back. I think Spokane made the mistake in their presentation by stating the girls games would be played in Cheney except for the championship...

I agree on Spokane, but I wonder if Weber wasn't that excited about it because of the all the Griz fans and proximity to Missoula and Montana.

Missoula only 7.01 hours and 525 miles from The Maverick Center in SLC, actually I already figured it out, only Sacramento State and Portland State would have to travel more to get to SLC, the other schools minus Idaho and Eastern and NAU lose about 5 to 6 hours and anywhere from 300 to 500 miles of travel

Proximity to both Spokane (Montana, EWU, MSU), and Salt Lake (WSU) is probably part of why they selected Reno. Don't let anyone have an edge, even if travel would be easier for everyone

Actually I think to be fair, the conference should alternate between Reno, SLC and Billings every year. Of those 3 destinations they have less schools that would have to travel 1000 plus miles to get to

City and number of schools 1000+ miles away
SLC - 1 (North Dakota)
Billings - 2 (Sacramento St, Northern Arizona)
Reno - 2 (North Dakota, Northern Colorado)
Spokane - 3 ( North Dakota, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona)
Denver - 4 (Eastern Wash, Portland St, Sacramento St, Idaho)

Salt Lake and the Maverik Center would have been good sites but they did not bid for the tournament. They could probably see that there would be little economic benefit from hosting a conference tournament that relatively few people care about.

WOW!!!! Just took a look into the BSC womens' tourney and saw a 3 pt basket with .4 seconds by ISU beat MSU..a number 9 down #1...games like this is a good argument for a neutral court as I doubt ISU would have pulled this out...

Isu makes a three with .2 seconds left. Msu got the ball to inbounds on their side of half court almost in front of their bench. Why did they not have to inbounds under the Isu basket? I never saw a timeout just the refs reviewing the time left???????

Right now have a Southland Conference game, New Orleans vs SE Louisiana, on TV*. (#5 vs #8 seed.) It's taking place at a neutral site in Katy, Texas. From the crowd shots, I'd guess that there are not more than a couple hundred (maybe less) in the place. It's so quiet, the announcers' mikes pick up the echoes from (half-hearted) chants from the cheer squads.

So it's not just the Big Sky. :?
(Will admit that the power-five venues have had decent crowds.)

Edit: I see online that Air Force and UNLV have gone into their second overtime. How come ROOT or Altitude doesn't have this game on?
