Iowa swept the Badgers with fewer athletes than the Griz have. Iowa had a RPI of 136 the last time they beat the Badgers. Montana's RPI is 75. The Badger's attribute the loss to one player shooting the lights out. One could also say Iowa was able to recognize the hot hand, fed him and the Wisconsin coaching staff was too rigid to adjust their D to stop the kid. In many respects this should be an easy game for the staff to gameplan. They are what they are and they aren't going to change.
Both games were close. In game one nobody for Wisconsin could shoot and in the second one an Iowa guy went off big time. These things happen. Iowa wasn't good enough to make the dance and Montana was. Of course Montana can beat Wisconsin.
Game 1 in Madison:
The Badgers, meanwhile, didn’t make nearly enough shots. They had their second-worst shooting game of the season (34.8 percent) and were a
dismal 3 for 28 on 3-pointers on the same day their top-ranked defense allowed a season-high for points. Wisconsin hadn’t allowed more than 61 points in its first 14 games and came in giving up an average of 44.4 points.
“If you hit shots, it’s amazing how much better your defense looks,” Badgers coach Bo Ryan said after his team had its six-game winning streak snapped.
Game 2 at Iowa:
(Matt) Gatens scored a career-high 33 points and Iowa beat No. 16 Wisconsin 67-66 for its second straight win over a ranked opponent.
It was the second straight career-high for Gatens, who had 30 points in Iowa’s win over then-No. 18 Indiana on Sunday. He was 7 of 10 shooting from 3-point range in both games, and at one point hit 12 straight 3s dating to that effort against the Hoosiers.
