you are right, old and quiet crowd. didnt these guys take Gonzaga to OT earlier this year?

Crowd was about 3200 and fine. Other than individual plays, it was hard for the crowd to get into it. The Griz killed UND from the start. Up 14-0 and never looked bad. Some unbelievable individual plays, passes, and dunks.

A very fun team to watch. There should be 5,000 every night.

President Bodnar was there, in a court side seat.
was Bodnar engaged with the game and crowd? Its good to hear he was there.

sac managed to throw that one away. not impressed by either sac state or spuds.

Right on! We should be able to get either one of those teams.

the last two possessions for both teams were really really timid, like they were playing not to lose. neither one attacked the rim and played their strength.

I thought a really cool moment was when President Bodnar went over and chatted with the Pep Band during their break at half time. I like sitting behind the band during games because they come up with some clever stuff. Always fun. Was good to see the end of the bench the last few minutes of the game. Lots of amazing assists tonight.

It'll be tough, but we have the opportunity, mainly because of our defense, to sweep this league.

Rorie, Oguine, Akoh, Nicholas, Falls, Pridgett...all impressed me tonight, and Krislovic and Moorehead did as well. Moorehead is a force defensively. The players looked like they were having fun out there tonight. That's a very good sign.

Just home from the game. Sometime in the past 6 weeks, Citay asked me to post my thoughts of this years GRIZ. Then, I posted that I thought it would take this team until conference play to get in sync and seeing it's potential. Well, looks like I was right about the time frame it would take them to find their game. However, they appear to have well exceeded my expectations.

Watching the team on TV or online doesn't do them justice. This team plays with conviction every possession, on both ends of the court. DeCuire's 8 man rotation is terrific. All 8 of those guys are 100% in sync defensively. They all play aggressive, make crisp transitions and have very few defensive breakdowns. Defensive intensity and awareness are exactly what a coach wants, and they do it all the time!!!

The GRIZ came out strong. In past years, the team would let up or get over confident. Not this team!!! They didn't get over confident, give in, or take their foot off the gas. They absolutely don't care or feel sorry for their opponents. This team seems to have a lot stronger mindset than past GRIZ teams.

Defensively, they can be more aggressive on the perimeter because the GRIZ now have 3 solid paint defenders in Krslovic, Akoh, and Nicholas. The past few years, it was only Krslovic to absorb the blows in the paint. Akoh is an absolute beast in the paint. He is a man among boys. Nicholas still needs to get stronger. However, he is long and athletic. He blocks shots with terrific timing and outstanding leaping ability. He can also defend the perimeter nicely. Nicholas can score using his athleticism well. Hard to fathom, how much he can do as he develops his basketball skills from the perimeter and post. He is a rarity as a Freshman in the Big Sky.

Speaking of Freshman, Nicholas and Falls are the best freshman duo in the conference. Both are absolutely terrific players and have awareness that are rarely found in Freshman. I can tell, Falls is a basketball junkie and gym rat. Nicholas is an absolute athletic freak, that just happened to choose basketball. He will be a force as his basketball skills and fundamentals are developed (I'd love to work with him on his FT shooting). Neither are selfish players. Each of them made some nice passes, played within the offense, and were in position defensively. Their presence and confidence are the biggest reasons why the GRIZ are playing so well.

Their play has taken the pressure off the likes of Oguine and Rorie. Rorie and Oguine are playing much more relaxed as well.

I cannot even imagine how much better this team would be with a healthy Dorsey. Hard to believe, Krslovic is the only SR on this team. #getonthebandwagon, #itwillbeafunride

Whoa Fan. :) TDC has done a superb job of developing these young men but there is still a LONG way to go in this conference season. Loving this start but several other teams have talent and ambition as well. GO GRIZ!

I know there’s some tough teams the conference, but if this team continues to grow and play at this level, they could go undefeated in conference! I haven’t been this excited about a team in a long time. Only one senior? Damn! Sky’s the limit!

I love watching this team work, particularly on defense. And I don't see Travis going anywhere this year, regardless of the overall record. Why would he? This year's team has only one Senior. If they are this good now, think how good they can be next year!

The Griz scores 59 points...in the SECOND HALF!

Man I so respect what TDC is building here. What really grabbed my attention was after one of Nicholas’ rim rattling dunks, ND quickly inbounded, and the Griz failed to get back, leading to a wide open layup. Travis immediately called timeout and layed into his players. He didn’t care that it was already a foregone conclusion at that point. He saw a lack of effort and immediately used it as a coaching opportunity. Love it. That’s how you build a program.

Don't know. He was sitting in a chair seat on the north side, closer to the band (I assume where Engstrom used to sit sometimes). MarinerFan may have seen more. I sit across from Griz bench. He stopped to say hi to my wife and me on his way up to the presidents box at halftime. I hadn't realized he was at the game until then. We met the Bodnars several months ago, and my wife teaches at the school where 2 of the Bodnar kids go. My guess is that he genuinely enjoyed being at the game and watching the team.

As I have said, I think he will be great for UM, and Missoula, in virtually every respect. He believes in excellence in academics, and athletics. He believes athletics and coaches should build character and prepare student-athletes for success in school and after they leave UM. My guess is that he is a big believer in athletics and the athletic mission, and while they should exist hand in hand, I assume he believes the academic mission is the primary mission of a university and that athletics should not impinge on that. He is a big believer in building leaders and putting people in a position to succeed. I have been fortunate to be able to interact with him some, after a mutual friend introduced us.

My guess is that he, like most of us, has been heavily influence by his background. Middle class upbringing in small town in western Penn. One or both of his parents were teachers. High school sports. West Point. Played baseball. No. 1 in his class on the academic and non-academic side. Discipline. Strong academics, including during his time in Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Strong military achievement and training, including at the highest levels for someone his age. Worked closely with some of the top military leaders, including Petraeus in Iraq. About 7 years in business at GE, working initially with the CEO, Jeff Immelt, and later as a leader of some tech/IP units of GE. Married with 3 younger children. As I said, was at school with them yesterday. Is a runner. Seems to be an incredibly hard worker. Very personable. Very articulate. Seemingly quite humble.

I too am optimistic and hopeful, especially because of the defense. It's a nice design, and the players are relentless. Even the stars like Rorie are hustling and playing hard at virtually all times. I must admit that I am a bit surprised by the apparent quality of the design, the level of execution, and the relentless hustle. This defense really bugs others teams and throws them off their games, and results in a lot of turnovers and missed makable shots. I think it may be the relentless defense that is helping keep the team from having let-downs. Yes, I'm into relentless in this post.
