Griz vs. NDSU on ESPN College Gameday ?

One of the reasons the Griz aren't that competitive anymore is because the minority of disrespectful fans that are inevitable with any program has grown to the point where we felt entitled to win.

So the logic of the thread is we have a good stadium for an FCS team. What doesn't matter is NDSU's stadium is just as loud, they are a dynasty with a legitimate chance of winning 4 championships in a row, are the first and only FCS team to have College Gameday come to town... twice, are the only FCS team to have 5 wins in a row against FBS schools, and have put up the most dominating defensive statistics in FCS history.

But we've got a great stadium. Here's a refresher of what happened the last time they played in our fantastic stadium... as an aspiring FCS school:

NDSU deserves all the accolades and then some. You guys are just talking while the Bison have been doing the walking.

Too bad you suck at football.

It's true. I saw marceagfan play in a pickup game once back in '86 during lunch recess. He tried to call "All Time Quarterback" in a 1st and 3rd/2nd and 4th league, a truly 3rd grade mistake. Once under the imaginary center, he didn't fare much better. He didn't establish the run, lined the team up exclusively in a 13-wide formation, called a Hail Mary every play, and went for it on every 4th down. To his credit, it was a 5-Alligator pass rush that day, and his team started six fourth graders at WR. Plus, a kid on our team already called that he was John Elway, so marceagfan had to be Danny White.

His throwoffs (after a rare score) were not much to write home about. We were playing tackle, due to the thick blanket of snow on the ground, until Mrs. McGill caught us and made us convert it to a touch game. marceagfan just had got some new Sorels for Christmas that hadn't broken in yet, so he was pretty much useless on defense after that. One star.

Side note: As Steve Largent, I had 5 catches for 53 yards and two scores that day. No big deal. It didn't get me laid or anything.

Were you on one last night? damn.....

I'd rather have a dynasty and a dome than a great open stadium and sanctions.

I hear that NDSU still has openings for bandwagon fans! Just ask Alpha! :thumb:

ESPN Gameday at NDSU does help sell FCS to the rest of the nation and that still should make Montana fans happy.

Here are games on ESPN that have helped sell FCS to the rest of the nation:
App State @ Montana (2009 semifinal)
SHSU @ EWU (2014 kickoff game)

The best games to showcase the FCS are top FCS teams playing games against each other, basically when the FCS Playoffs start happening. The App State @ Montana 2009 playoff game is a perfect example that helped showcase great football between two great teams at the FCS level and even helped solidify talk that the FBS should go to a playoff format. But when you have the opportunity to showcase the FCS during the regular season, you don't do it by playing a cupcake that is going to get blown out...

This doesn't help sell the FCS Brand to the rest of the Nation:
Delaware State 0 @ North Dakota State 51 (2013 ESPN Gameday)
Incarnate Word @ North Dakota State (2014 ESPN Gameday)

Blowouts like last year and this year (NDSU will blow out Incarnate Word) do nothing to get the attention of the average fan. Not a knock against NDSU, they've been unbelievable the last 4 years, but Gameday the last two years has been all about NDSU, not the FCS. I know it's beating a dead horse at this point, but if ESPN really wanted to showcase the FCS, they would have waited one more week for Montana to roll into Fargo.

Gameday at NDSU will be about the same thing Gameday is always about - which FBS team will win the National Championship. It may expand to talk about which 4 teams will be in the "playoffs". Just as the ESPN kickoff game in Cheney wasn't about FCS, neither will this help FCS. That isn't a slam on NDSU in any way, it is the reality of the situation.

But they will show some good shots of the doughnut shop in downtown Fargo, so at least your local eating establishments will get some boost.

Agreed. It's too bad colleges can't influence how ESPN formats the show, or maybe that's a good thing. Who knows. What's clear is the FCS isn't influential enough, at least to ESPN, to give other teams extensive coverage. There's just not enough money in it probably.

That video of the Alerus Center sure makes it look small. Is it that small or is it an optical illusion because the people in the stands are so fat? Serious question.

It is a scientifically proven fact (see scientific study linked below) that green makes you look fat:

Only when you leave them on while your sausage fingers expand from eating deep fried pig taints for three years straight. It makes you fingers resemble bread baking around twine.

No, ESPN Gameday will be in Fargo next weekend, it just reads that NDSU is the only school who will be getting the love from ESPN,

Basically, ESPN doesn't give a crap about who NDSU is playing. Incarnate Word and Montana are the exact same in ESPN's eyes, as long as with most of the people who watch Gameday. This isn't an insult to the Griz, it's just that NDSU is the one program in FCS that may attract some interest. NDSU not only plays teams from the Big Ten and Big 12, but they beat them. Meanwhile, the Griz and Kitties lose to low-tier FBS schools like Wyoming and Arkansas State. I doubt the NDSU game is even going to be televised on any of the ESPN networks, anyhow.

If the Griz had won the past three FCS titles, and had beaten teams like Kansas State in doing so, I'm guessing ESPN would be in Missoula, because the pre-game atmosphere for a Griz game is one-of-a-kind IMO. The tailgates are so close to the stadium, and the fans start partying EARLY, even for noon games.
