Griz land Will Weyer

I'll just make a few points and then end it. Maybe the mods can carve this out.

Wasn't trying to be condescending when referring to Pflu's offense. I liked Pflu and his offense when he was running it because he knew what he was doing and began recruiting players he knew could run it. It is a gimicky offense, but not in a bad way. It's very effective if you know how to execute it. Expecting our current staff to run it would be a mistake.

Only a handful of our players ran the spread in HS. Most of them were in offenses that were simpler and more traditional. Pro-style can actually be a pretty easy style of offense to implement. I played college football, I know the difficulties of learning a position. It is a much steeper learning curve, but changing offensive styles is very doable, especially going from spread to pro. I think this transition has been going on since Delaney took the job though. It's not an all of a sudden change a few months before the season.

You can't compare our OL to Oregon's OL. Oregon is a top 5 program who has the convenience of recruiting the very best athletes in the country. Their OL is big but they also are some of the fastest and most agile at their position in the country. Never said our scheme was the reason we struggled last year. The running game and OL production was really good, but I do believe that a Pro-style will cater to our line's strengths and they will benefit from that.

Last point, we aren't going back to bobby ball. Bobbyball is just one variation of the Pro. My guess is that JJ will still be taking plenty of snaps from the shot gun and we will be implementing plays that utilize his mobility. There are many running QBs who have been successful in the Pro.

I'm am optimistic about this year. Having a potentially great OL and a QB like JJ alone will make things easier for everybody. I think we win 8 or 9 and maybe win one or two in the playoffs, which will be a huge improvement and will keep Delaney here as long as he wants to be. The Delaney haters will jump on board after this season IMO...

I get you, although I do disagree still. I'll wait until after fall ball before I really start to worry.

I really hope this is just me overreacting. Like I said, if by "pro-style offense" they mean like what the 49ers are running, all is well.

However, just based on what we saw in the spring, I do have concerns. It looked pretty Bobby-ball-ish to me, and didn't look effective at all. And I wouldn't mind so much if they weren't effective running what we have been in the last scrimmage, but it was way more effective. If it's not broken, why try to fix it?

The offense was not Bobby Ball in the spring.

Again, as others have said, the offense is expected to be multi-faceted.

The early returns on Kefense as OC are good.

Didn't realize that "bobbyball" was the only version of a pro-style offense... learn something on here new everyday...
I know there is a difference but i think Micky D is most familiar with boobyball. He was a disciple of boobyball; the RB coach for cripes sake. And look at last year: we had monster running games but it was never enuf because (among some bad D) we couldn't throw. I believe the reason we could still run it even when they stacked the box was because of the system, and now he wants to change it (again!)

Wow, I think we'll have a good year, but some of you guys are very optimistic
I call it stupid, but whatever

After reading through this thread :geek: I have to assume we're just going to suck. It's all downhill from here. We better just start recruiting this kid cuz we're gonna suck till he gets here (http://youtu.be/DvFA8JdLg4s" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

Really though, as long as Delaney doesn't just totally change the O to a full on power running style offense, for which we don't have the personnel for (much like Phlu did in 2010 when he tried to run the spread without proper personnel) then I think we'll be ok...at least I will withhold my judgement about our O until at least a couple of games into the season. :thumb:

Thanks for the discussion and I get your opinion as well. We will see what happens.

Back to Weyer now... sorry...
We will have NO MORE of these civilized discussions. This is egriz for Gods sake!!!!

We might have the backs to run a pro-style but I don't think we have the qbs/receivers/TEs for it (ready, now).
Could you imagine how horrible we would have been last year if Mick D tried to change back to boobyball.
