GRIZ HC job

No mention of Paul Wulff?
Paul Wulff is an assistant with the sf 49ers. If he goes anywhere he will go back home to replace Bob Biggs at UC Davis. He has roots their and played ball there in HS.

Another name to throw in the mix is Chuck Morrell at Tech. Turned Tech around in a hurry and beat Carroll in his second season, just as he said he would do.

I have to agree. Chuck took a Tech team that has not been very successful for several years & turned it around in one season.

BTW, isn't Tech 7-1 right now with their lone loss being against Eastern Oregon who they beat Saturday?

They are 6-1 and ranked #8 in the country and yes they avenged that loss this last weekend. The Diggs are looking really good right now. Since we will have no playoff games for the Griz I look forward to checking out some Tech playoff games after the kitty game. Chuck Morrell is the real deal and I'm not sure if he would even be interested or would even get a look from UM but maybe if UM were to hire a new HC, Morrell should definitely get a look as a DC because thats is his specialty and Techs D has been great this year.

I'd be in favor of Morrell being the Griz DC. Tech is having a great season, but I think the Diggers' will be walking into a hornet's nest at Southern Oregon on Nov. 10. I'd like to say the Lights could upset the Diggs in Butte Saturday, but I won't be holding my breath. May be a shoot-out though.

I didn't read this but skimmed the coaches names.. why are we so compelled to stay within the good ol' boy network? Why can't we look outside of someone w/ UM/Montana connections?

I explained that in the post. I only mentioned those I am familiar with. I welcome outsiders, just not familiar with any to add. :thumb:

NEWS FLASH: Delanney is a "interim" HC under contract

This off-season is the time to make this transition and move the Grizzly football program forward. The secret "NCAA issues" (if any against the team), will surely be known by then. Not to mention the young talent that we have now will be well suited to make that transition NOW rather than a year later! They are more seasoned & mature.

We dont need a lame duck coach situation all next year. Perfect time to transition & I have a few names to throw out.

John Papuchis, Nebraska, Defensive Coordinator/Recruiting
Kalani Fifita Sitake, Utah, defensive coordinator/Polynesian Recruiter
David Yost, Missouri offensive coordinator/recruiting coordinator
Jonathan Smith, QB Coach Boise State
Mike Sanford Jr., Stanford Cardinal running backs coach & recruiting coordinator
Scott Frost, Oregon Ducks wide receiver coach/Key Recruiter
Tee Martin, USC Trojans wide receivers coach/Key Recruiter
Rob Akey, former Idaho HC
Bob Nielson (Minnesota Duluth)
Matt Mitchell (Grand Valley State)
Tim Beck (Pittsburg State) Go Gorillas

There's a couple pipe dreams and a couple reasonable thoughts regarding prospective coaching candidates down the road. We have to start looking around now to find the right fit. I would like a guy settled in for the job in 2014.

Give me a really good up and coming coach in 4-7 year intervals and I am a happy guy. Montana will always bred the next generation of college coaches. I guarantee you there's a young guy out there licking his chops to be head guy at a program like we have in Missoula, right now!

He knows what this can be...now we just need to find that guy!
Go Griz Nation
(reposted 10/21)

I am adding Chris Tormey (Wyoming Ass't) Great recruiter. Pacific Northwest native who I believe is from Spokane. Left Hawaii for Wulfs staff at WSU ion 2011 & then moved to Wyoming last season. High Moral, High Ethics, God fearing, man of integrity that can coach the game & knows how to recruit the region!

Christensen was mentioned I believe earlier as well but he was just suspended by the university & Conference for a post game tirade caught on tape? (well) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/vod-video-wyoming-coach-dave-christensen-nsfw-blowup-201246663--ncaaf.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can't win in Butte! :wtf:

lol.. Tormey's an awful coach though. Hasn't lasted anywhere he's been due to his awful W/L, plus his current defense ranks among the worst in FBS.

Christensen is making $1.1 million.. Montana won't pay more than $200K for a coach.

I appreciate that the odds were stacked against Delaney going into this season. However, in my opinion our talent level did not drop off as significantly as our record currently indicates. Players have to play, hold onto the ball, make tackles, etc., but coaches have to coach, too, and each Saturday ours seem to come up with a new way to botch the game.

Firing Delaney is not in the cards, nor should it be, but we shouldn't expect too much until a new hc is on board.

Brent Pease the OC from Florida. Former griz QB

I bet at very minimum he is getting $500,000. for the OC job at Florida. If the Griz pay about $150,000 like they do now, do you think he would come back just because he played for the Griz?

I have this sinking feeling that not only will Delaney be back next year but he may actually look better and therefore get his contract extended even further. OR, he will be gone after next year and our new coach will take over just in time for the NCAA sanctions to kick in. Wouldn't it be nice to get those sanctions over with during Delany's tenure? One can only dream...

Jerome Souers and Andy Thompson for 2014 or just Andy Thompson....these guys know how to recruit and get the best out of their players.

I am leaning toward putting in for the job. I am attempting to beat Alpha to the first applicant position.

If I get the job we pass most of the time. No screwing around with the run. Pass and win.

Perhaps I better stick with high school on second thought.
