GRIZ HC job

You mean Hauck recruited Jordan Johnson and Nate Montana?

Who recruited the other troubled players of recent note? Donaldson, Kemp, Trumaine Johnson, Jimmy Wilson, etc.

Genuine question, I have not look the info up. I guess this is a likely futile effort to argue rationally on eGriz, as said before is not required. ;)

Even then, only 1 of the 4 listed, has a felony crime.
Kemp got in trouble for a house party, with Tru, in an incident blown out of proportion.
Jimmy Wilson was found innocent. What happened was in protecting a family member. The other serious offenders were kicked off the team, and never seen the field again. Sounds like to me Hauck did indeed do away with those guilty of bad crimes.

What specific facts do you have to categorize these players as "troubled"?

Another name to throw in the mix is Chuck Morrell at Tech. Turned Tech around in a hurry and beat Carroll in his second season, just as he said he would do.

Donaldson is going to prison (crime committed while Pflu was here), Kemp was trouble under Pflugrad, not Hauck, Trumaine is now in the NFL (both of them were charged with misdemeanors, big f'ing deal), and Jimmy Wilson was cleared of murder and charged with a misdemeanor for an incident downtown. Is this really how we want to nitpick? Hauck didn't bring us to where we are today.. the NCAA sniffing around.

Read the newspaper much? or are we going to re-hash the distrust of the Missoulian? That would be getting more off topic.

Until Engstrom is gone we are Phucked. If I were a up and coming coach or the real deal now, I would not go to any school that some idiot non sport friendly A hole who fires coaches and AD's as easy as a bowel movement.
They know that they will take the fall for someone else making a bad "adult" choice.

Hey, Jerome is finally winning down in Flagstaff. I'd bet we could easily convince him to come back here.

I didn't read this but skimmed the coaches names.. why are we so compelled to stay within the good ol' boy network? Why can't we look outside of someone w/ UM/Montana connections?

I explained that in the post. I only mentioned those I am familiar with. I welcome outsiders, just not familiar with any to add. :thumb:

NEWS FLASH: Delanney is a "interim" HC under contract

This off-season is the time to make this transition and move the Grizzly football program forward. The secret "NCAA issues" (if any against the team), will surely be known by then. Not to mention the young talent that we have now will be well suited to make that transition NOW rather than a year later! They are more seasoned & mature.

We dont need a lame duck coach situation all next year. Perfect time to transition & I have a few names to throw out.

John Papuchis, Nebraska, Defensive Coordinator/Recruiting
Kalani Fifita Sitake, Utah, defensive coordinator/Polynesian Recruiter
David Yost, Missouri offensive coordinator/recruiting coordinator
Jonathan Smith, QB Coach Boise State
Mike Sanford Jr., Stanford Cardinal running backs coach & recruiting coordinator
Scott Frost, Oregon Ducks wide receiver coach/Key Recruiter
Tee Martin, USC Trojans wide receivers coach/Key Recruiter
Rob Akey, former Idaho HC
Bob Nielson (Minnesota Duluth)
Matt Mitchell (Grand Valley State)
Tim Beck (Pittsburg State) Go Gorillas

There's a couple pipe dreams and a couple reasonable thoughts regarding prospective coaching candidates down the road. We have to start looking around now to find the right fit. I would like a guy settled in for the job in 2014.

Give me a really good up and coming coach in 4-7 year intervals and I am a happy guy. Montana will always bred the next generation of college coaches. I guarantee you there's a young guy out there licking his chops to be head guy at a program like we have in Missoula, right now!

He knows what this can be...now we just need to find that guy!
Go Griz Nation

Yeah probably, but me personally if I saw the program that gave me so much going down hill i'd take a little less to help right the ship. He wouldn't be where he is today without Griz nation FACT

If he's married and has kids, I'd say an a $400k/year pay cut is a non-starter.

Also, he wouldn't have been a Griz without Walla Walla Community college, so perhaps he'll end up coaching there.

If the team shows significant improvement over these last 3 games and finish either 5-6 or hopefully 6-5 I would fully expect Delaney to come back next year. If they do not show improvement and lose two of the remaining three I would suspect he will retire. Either way we know that Engstrom will not let him go, so whatever happens will be on Mick's terms.

Regardless, now is certainly the time for the University to begin a national search if for no other reason than to guage potential interest from which a viable list could be developed.

As for the ongoing investigations, it all depends on how UM markets and sells the position. Take a look at how USC handled the Reggie Bush scandal when Pete Carroll left. They landed Lane Kiffen from a pretty cushy job at Tennessee and kept right on going! I'm not comparing UM's situation with USC's other than to say that it is possible to get good, even great coaching talent no matter what kind of situation a school finds itself in.

Pay is another matter.
