Griz have 2 top 5 FCS commits

Wish the Griz would recruit more of the Dakotas and Midwest, kids have great work ethic. Coach Germer will produce a great line next year. Defense needs to improve, the old saying goes Defense wins Championships !
MIdwest is a tough place for anyone from the Big Sky to tap into. You've the the MAC, MVFC, and Big 10 right in their back yard. I could see us getting into Nebraska though, that's Stitt's old stomping grounds. Plus, Nebraska is basically just a super-sized Montana. Dominant in the 90's, currently in a funk, and a big rural population that loves football.

I agree. I think I've read some talk on here about more aggressively Midwest as a reaction to losses to or the success of schools in those regions (eg: NDSU, Nova, App St, etc...). I'm not sure if that is a good strategy... I don't think we would want to go all in on the Midwest. Too much competition for the talent pool. Really, same with the Midwest as well. I do think, with Stitt's connections, that Nebraska, Colorado, and Oklahoma could be good states to try at, in addition to our traditional grounds of Montana, Pacific NW, California, and Arizona. Our brand has recognition in those areas and I feel that the new facilities will provide an extra boost in closing on some recruits that might have been on the fence with us in previous classes.

I wish the whole roster was made up of Montana kids but we all know that's not possible. I'll take a tough Montana kid over anybody, look back over our most successful years and most of our impact players were home grown.

A third of the roster typically is from Montana. The odds of the impact players being from Montana are pretty good. But as far as I'm concerned, once they put on that uniform that says "Montana" across the front, they're ALL from Montana.

Spot on !!!!

Having a class like this will only add to the excitement, and others will want to join. Recruits definitely watch, and want to be a part of it!!

Great article. Just confirms what we already knew....If this class sticks, Stitt is a hell of a recruiter/salesman.

Every year, it's our "best" recruiting class ever the last few years....and we can see those results.

AZ, agree, once they are here, they are Montanan's in my book.

I hate sterotypes. Especially, ones like "every Griz football player from Montana is and was a tough, farm kid." I know tons of great Griz football players over the years who never worked on a farm a day in their lives, and yet, they were still tough, and still had a great work ethic. I also don't think every kid playing high school football in the state of Montana automatically has a great work ethic, just because they're from Montana either. Go to about any high school football practice in the fall and you will see coaches tearing their hair out over kids who lack work ethic.

I love Montana kids to death and want as many as possible playing on the Griz football team, but at the end of the day, I want the best football player the program can get at every position, and I don't give a flying where they come from. Case in point, Nate Harris or JR Nelson. I wouldn't have traded either one of them for Trace Timmer. And that's not a dis on Timmer. He's a good kid, good student, comes from a great family and is Montana true and thru. But he isn't nearly as good a corner as Harris or Nelson. Not even close. Again, point is, I don't care where the Griz, or Cats for that matter, come from. But that's just me.

I wonder how many days Zac Waggenman or Jordan Tripp or Brock Coyle spent bucking bales or changing sprinkler pipe or driving a tractor.

You know, that kind of stuff that builds "a great work ethic."

Agreed. But from a born and raised native, the Montana kids are just a wee bit more special to me.

If Stitt can tap the Omaha market and the state of Nebraska, we would get a lot of hard working players. They are either farm boys or kids looking to get out of some bad areas of Omaha (north Omaha especially). A lot of good kids from military families are there too.

call me crazy, but logic and common sense tells me stitt will have some young men coming from the Colorado area where he has spent 15 years recruiting and developing relationships with the coaches there.........there are 120 high schools just on the eastern slope, alone that play football not to mention the western slope,,,,,air force has a national recruiting base, which leaves only u of Colorado , csu and unc ,wyoming if you want to count them,,,,,,common sense says that Colorado should be big area of emphasis in the future....imo,,,,

I agree with you regarding Colorado. The GRIZ already recruit CO and get an occasional recruit from that area. My reference to Nebraska was because it is not an area we have established in yet. I also don't consider CO the midwest. I do believe both CO and NE will be recruiting areas for Stitt.

I agree with this also. I tend to follow the Montana kids a bit more just because you follow those kids coming up through high school and want to see how that translates to a higher level. Regardless of that though, this program would not be where it is without the team taking some chances on Montana kids. We need to continue to utilize those partial scholarships and compete with MSU for those players that are hungry to play at this level. By not doing that you miss out on the Biermann, Schillinger, Harris, etc... type players that have been crucial to our success.

Not sure about all of them but I know Tripp loves to work on his familys ranch

JT: I ride horses. Ever since I was a little kid I’ve rode horses. I push cattle. I work on the ranch. I love everything outdoors. I love to fish and hunt. People I guess would expect that with me being from Montana. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to check out everything you can do outdoors down here.

I can't disagree with that. It's pretty freakin' cool to me that 2 of the last three players that went to the NFL are from my home town.... 8-) As if I had something to do with it....

I don't know what Tripp's individual situation (or upbringing) is/was, and I was being somewhat facetious in my response...but I've done all those things too...on my family's ranch....but I got my work ethic from my father and my mother. Had nothing to do with having bucked bales, ridden horses, changed sprinkler pipe, run a combine or baler, brought in the cows, branding season, calving season, etc., etc., etc.

Montana born and raised are more special to me as well without a doubt. I do really appreciate the kids that come from somewhere else and really end up loving and embracing MT as a second home.

Implication being our players (mostly from MT, CA, AZ, OR, & WA) don't have great work ethics?

"Implication" I don't think that word means what you think it does?
