Do you think relying on the portal so heavily is sustainable in the long run, or maybe once you commit to it, is it now a necessity?
Hauck did fine at UNLV, and better than anyone in recent history up to the that time. He went to the first bowl game in many years. It's a tough place to coach. And Hauck was terrific at San Diego State, ending up as the assistant head coach. And asked to return as the head coach a couple years later. Hauck didn't come crawling back. He wanted to come back for multiple reasons. He wanted to RTD. UM is 3d in the nation in FCS this year. UM isn't a second tier FCS school. That comment is just plain STUPID. Even most idiots wouldn't agree with that. UM has done better against the MV and Dakota schools and the Cats in recent years.
UM led the FCS in per game attendance all 3 years Stitt was here, so based on your metric UM has actually gone down under Hauck while still being near the top.Parts of this thread make sense, which I have explored here and there on this board. College football (and pro, of course) is a segment of the entertainment industry. So its popularity should be judged by the quality of its product. And we can juggle numbers to favor whatever point we care to push ... but one number stands out. For a stale, outdated product, Griz football scores high in one of the most important numbers. Except for one HBCU team, UM topped the 2025 FCS list in total attendance. (Granted, MSU had a great number too.) https://herosports.com/fcs-football-2025-attendance-leaders-bzbz/
Jackson State leads the list only on a per-game basis, but perhaps does not have the home capacity to lead the total. I can't be bothered to get exact numbers, but UM attracted more butts than probably half the FBS programs out there. Not bad for a stale, outdated product.

Bobcat Stadium has 6,000 less capacity. The attendance has more to do with stadium capacity and how long it takes MSU to expand their stadium to seat as many as UM. Even when UM puts a poor product out on the field, fans still show up in the stands. 2012 we had a losing record and the only FCS team with higher attendance was App State, who is no longer in the FCS.My point is not about the now, never has been, it’s about 10 years down the road. Do you think another decade of losing every year to the cats and having a decent season every 3-4 years is going to keep that going? Cal used to have a pretty good program, same for Nebraska, Stanford… the list goes on.
Boomers remember how poor the program was prior to '86. In the late 60's the program had such a low priority that it lost its footprint on campus and was shuffled off to that abortion on South Avenue. Only after the arrival of Read and WaGriz did cat domination begin. Boomers better than anyone understand that the program could have a lot to lose. We're still a long way away from that. People who are 30 years of age or older had their childhood be the Griz dominating the Cats.
I was born in 1994 so my entire childhood save a few exceptions the Griz were a better team and program than the Cats. Millennials are going to be the next big donor group in the future, and they largely do not remember prior to 1986.Boomers remember how poor the program was prior to '86. lol. Have you heard the bitching on here that takes place when they play anything in the stadium past 2005?You make some interesting points. The going back to 1995 is way old and the music needs to be updated. It must be the same playlist made for a majority of football teams...only older.
Than why not be desperate to push it into the new era instead of sitting terrified of trying new things??Boomers remember how poor the program was prior to '86. Hauck actually did worse at UNLV than the previous 2 coaches though no one really did well there until Barry Odom. You would have to go back to 1998 to find a coach with a worse record at UNLV than Hauck before he was there.Hauck did fine at UNLV, and better than anyone in recent history up to the that time. In the current environment, I think the portal is how you deal with attrition, mainly the stopping playing, and portal loss variety. It’s just a reality. Focus on getting good HS kids, developing them, and using the portal when the invariable attrition happens. Wholly relying on the portal on its own is not sustainable, which I’m not convinced the Griz do.Do you think relying on the portal so heavily is sustainable in the long run, or maybe once you commit to it, is it now a necessity?
The data doesn't lie and all I have done is gather it and present it, now if that upsets you then it's definitely a personal problem of your own making.UM beats good team on the road every year, Your problem is that you are a neggie and a pessimist. And don't understand the game of football nor the Griz program. Hauck has more playoff wins than any other active coach, and next year will probably become the leading FCS playoff winner of all time.
UM hasn’t fallen behind at all. That’s some Olympic-level mental gymnasticsNo, UM has fallen behind at all. MSU has moved up, and slightly ahead. UM isn't in status quo. Sorry, but someone is going to be no. 1 and someone is going to be no. 3. In 2023, UM was ahead of MSU. Settle down. Stop saying stupid things that show you don't understand the game.
Fun fact - during the years of low priority football at the abortion on South Avenue 1968-1985 cats went 12-6 against the Griz .667. From 2016 to 2025 cats have gone 8-2, .800. In Hauck ii 2108-2025 cats have gone 6-2 .750. In other words this current era playing in the Mecca of fcs Griz have a worse record against the cats.Boomers remember how poor the program was prior to '86. Jackson St averages more than our capacity cus their stadium seats 60,000 and about 3-4 years ago Dieon showed up. Not everything is Haucks fault.UM led the FCS in per game attendance all 3 years Stitt was here, so based on your metric UM has actually gone down under Hauck while still being near the top.
Then learn some history. I was born in '77 and can tell you a whole crap ton about Griz football before then. I once had a friend down here ask if i knew much of the history and how far back my knowledge went. I straight face answered "1897, why?" He wanted to know if i remembered a great QB we had in the '90'sI was born in 1994 so my entire childhood save a few exceptions the Griz were a better team and program than the Cats. Millennials are going to be the next big donor group in the future, and they largely do not remember prior to 1986.
I was at the game. Partied with the Anderson family and more after the game at hotel. I got some of the cheerleaders and Monte to join us.
When a team gets so many home playoff games, many big wins are at home. It doesn’t matter where big wins occur. And you have to be in big games, to win them. Hauck has a lot.
21 playoff wins. More than any NDSU coach.
“His postseason record makes him the winningest active coach in the FCS tournament history and the third-winningest of all-time in the tournament behind legendary coaches Jim Tressel (Youngstown St., 23 wins) and Jerry Moore (Appalachian St., 22 wins).”
.....anyone else getting Herbert/Quagmire from Family Guy vibes? Not sure how I missed this before.
Just so I’m clear. You are 75 now. So what you are saying is you as a 58 year old man pressured a bunch of 18-22 co-eds into coming back to your hotel room to “party”?
Ok Captain Normal.
