Griz Football Product

I am not saying some changes might not be needed; they probably are. But, say you fire Bobby, and the team goes 8-4, then 8-4 or so again. How are you dealing with the howling masses?

Suggestions for "new things" to try? Be specific about "chances" he and his coaches should take.. Us old geezers mostly like to see the teams we root for win. Hauck's UM teams have won over three-quarters of their games, including the span since he returned as UM coach, with four 10-win seasons (generally considered a base-line for success). Would we like to see a Natty? Sure (wife and I need new NC memorabilia),but I fail to see how replacing a wildly successful coach is going to make the program better. FWIW: I have never met Hauck, and never expect to. I see what people have written about him and a few TV interviews. Cannot fathom the vocal a virulent hate exhibited here on eGriz. Makes me wonder how much of it is personal ... individuals who thought they should be recruited, or even play for the Griz and didn't make it. Don't know and don't care. I'm a numbers guy – remember me ? – and the numbers are damned impressive.
Well since you’re a numbers guy, here’s a couple of numbers for you: 2-6- as in Bobby gets spanked by the cats literally 3x more than he wins.

Here’s another number: 1- that is number of conference titles during 2.0.

And lastly, 3 for 21. When he was hired, Bobby stated his on-field metrics for success would be beating the Cats, winning the conference, and Natties, which he is currently accomplishing at a 14% clip.

So here’s what I think is being missed and something that the boomers on this board don’t understand. Modern football is akin to selling a product. One of the biggest killers of any once great company is lack of innovation and complacency.

Our football product and athletics department in general is so stale it’s an absolute shame. We seriously still play a Jay-Z song as our run out? How many times can we drag out our throwback colors and brag about the 95 chipper?

Imagine AT&T deciding to double down on land line phones in the late 90’s instead of revamping as an internet and mobile provider? That is exactly what Griz athletics and football under Haslam and Hauck 2.0 have become.

You don’t hire the old guard to innovate and bring you into the modern era. You do what MSU has done the past 15 years. At this point Vigens selling the new iPhone while Hauck and Haslam are convinced they can still make their quarter hawking Sky-tel pagers.
i'm not a boomer, but your claim that they don't realize innovation is necessary is laughable. who do you think created the internet in the first place? cell phones? newsflash, it wasn't your generation.

100% on point. MSU a not afraid to take chances and try new things. UM is paralyzed and afraid to put the product at risk and try something new. Paralyzed is the perfect word. I think it is less Hauck than it is Haslam. Need a fresh approach next year, and if not then we need fresh faces making decisions in the operation of the athletic department.
What changes and new things has MSU tried?

Terrific post. You nailed it.

I’m talking about keeping the program relevant. I was around to see the 95 run in person, was in college during the 01 season. You know who wasn’t? Gen Z and younger who are your prospective students and the target demographic. Right now, they are Cat fans. UM is cringe to them.

Until we change the culture, including the Gameday experience and move on from “The Pride and Tradition” we will continue to fade into irrelevance.

Also, 13-2 against a schedule of schmo’s means squat when your chief rival are national champions. Wow, we beat some 4 loss MV teams and Central WA… amazing. When’s the last time Booby won a marquee road game? WA was awful, doesn’t count.
Your posts and views are weak. Change game day experience at the stadium to keep the program relevant? That makes me laugh.

13-2 with losses only to the eventual national champ is a terrific season. The win over ranked UW is one of the big wins in UM history. It was and is huge.

You are another Never-Played-The-Gamer.

Your posts just keep getting worse.

Beating JMU in the semis isn’t a “marquee” road win for you? It doesn’t get any more marquee than the semi finals. Half of the 2015 team that got Ash fired was also Gen Z. Gen Alpha is the group who doesn’t know the Griz as the top team in Montana.
As you know, JMU was ranked no. 1 then.

To keep this on thread, essentially yes. Why? Because we don’t schedule good OOC games anymore and play in a weak conference.

It’s part of the problem. Kent relies too much on people who just want to come and have some luke warm Busch Lattes and bum Zyns while their wives aren’t looking. 🥱

If we aren’t going to have exciting regular season games like the 95 win over BSU, we could at least not have to watch Monte shimmy around to Kid Rock for the 1,000th time.
You should follow the team instead of following the music at the games. Then, you might know something about football.

It literally hasn’t changed in 20 years. Emblematic of a stale product. The fact you don’t see an issue actually supports my argument.

I was at the game in Bozeman. Probably paid more than you did for your Fiesta Bowl tics. The energy in that fan base is palpable. Made me miss when our fans cared about excellence and not Bobby’s ego and Kent’s paycheck.
I went to Griz-cat 2.0 as well. It seems that they in bozo have improved their atmosphere and its tops in the fcs. Friggin Griz stadium atmosphere is literally top 10 in D-1. bozo is improving in a lot of ways. We do need to improve everything and keep working harder with zero complacency. Maybe improving some stadium music and speakers will help… our crowd is still off the chain and no one in fcs and honestly most in fbs aren’t as nuts and loud. We can still improve everywhere though and we should strive for that improvement. Go Griz!!!

A lot of people who go to college games and follow college ball don’t know a ton about football. 95% of them have never played the game. Making an experience THEY can enjoy is just as important as catering to the other 5%. Maybe even more important.

And it doesn’t take a football expert or former college star to feel extremely deflated following two losses to your arch rival. You want excitement, NIL money, advertising revenue and merchandise sales? You make an exciting game time experience. UM used to do this 15-20 years ago and it was very good for the program.

You saw that my family and Pflu had a good time at the Fiesta Bowl yesterday? It was nice to have the 50 yard line seats. And nice to attend the Suns win over the Thunder a few days ago.

I see you are another mini stalker and creeper. Making reference to names including my wife. Does it make you feel better or more important to bring up my wife?

You stalkers and creepers are weird.
You are a puke.....

At the risk of alienating both sides, hulahoops has a point with game day atmosphere. But the point shouldn’t be that it sucks (clearly it doesn’t), but that it should evolve to provide more relevant media, music, and fan engagement that also appeals to younger folks. They are the future donors and season ticket holders. Hook em while they are young!

Regular hoops also has a point that winning games, which the Griz did 13 times this year, is the main product. The Griz have been excellent in that regard save one instance at home. Winning games makes a fun atmosphere regardless of what’s playing.

The point where the Griz pad home games by picking on the CWUs and Indiana States of the world is a good one. Getting better OOO teams into Wa Griz will be much more engaging and exciting. Coupled with elite entertainment bits and you have an elevated experience that younger people fight to go to.

So the answer, like everything on this board, is somewhere in the middle of everyone’s extremes. Also hoolahoops saying “Busch lattes” took me back to a simpler, much more inebriated time…

I was at the game. Partied with the Anderson family and more after the game at hotel. I got some of the cheerleaders and Monte to join us.

When a team gets so many home playoff games, many big wins are at home. It doesn’t matter where big wins occur. And you have to be in big games, to win them. Hauck has a lot.

21 playoff wins. More than any NDSU coach.

“His postseason record makes him the winningest active coach in the FCS tournament history and the third-winningest of all-time in the tournament behind legendary coaches Jim Tressel (Youngstown St., 23 wins) and Jerry Moore (Appalachian St., 22 wins).”

How many wins did Jerome have at NAU? Was it because he was a great coach or because he was mediocre, never got a better opportunity and the complacent NAU athletics dept was afraid to try and get better?

Also no one is impressed you crashed Colt’s post game hotel party. But if you see him, ask him which program’s UpTop gear he sells more of at this point?

Things will never get better until a change is made at AD and coach. Just slowly worse and worse, as excitement dies, attendance drops and we fall further into irrelevance. But hey, we beat JMU on the road 17 years ago!

The main product to a lot of fans is beating the Cats, the team and school that our friends and family who did not go to UM went to. This game matters so much more to casual fans than others like Weber and NAU. For most casual fans MSU is the only opponent that matters more.

This is a very smart post, this guy gets it.

I’m not specifically worried about the music. Heck, I enjoyed the Black Album. Bought it at Rockin’ Rudy’s when it came out 23 years ago, lol. I’m saying that the fact we haven’t updated anything about our pre-game, including the “Bring Em Out” walk out, in 20 years is an example of how lazy and milk toast our program has gotten. We used to crave excellence, now we are happy to watch Bobby beat EWU by 1 on a fluke, while MSU dominates us in athletics and enrollment.

Hoops is happy as long as he gets to do his annual brokeback fly-fishing trip with Booby and the fellas.

One of my buddies from UM is a lifelong Griz football fan and his younger brother played for Choate at MSU. He has a good view into both programs and how they have changed the trajectory in the last 10 seasons.

You lost me when you consider Griz merchandise sales lame. Griz gear and logo sales revenue is in the top 50 of all CFB programs. Check the numbers before you make such blanket statements to support your narrative. Of course the revenue goes to the Bookstore, not the AD.
